(Universidad Tècnica de Ambato Facultad de Ciencias Humanas y de la Educaciòn Carrera de Pedagogía de los Idiomas Nacionales y Extranjeros, 2026-06-01) Carranco Romero Nahomi Martina; Cumbe Coraizaca Dorys Maribel; Universidad Tècnica de Ambato Facultad de Ciencias Humanas y de la Educaciòn Carrera de Pedagogía de los Idiomas Nacionales y Extranjeros
This descriptive study aimed to analyze learners’ perspectives regarding the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)-assisted tools to improve English pronunciation. The research was systematically conducted with a population consisting of 121 B1-level undergraduate students enrolled in the Carrera Pedagogía de los Idiomas Nacionales y Extranjeros (PINE) at Universidad Técnica de Ambato, Ecuador. The data collection process involved the online distribution of a structured, 22-item Likert-scale survey. Content validity was established by five academic experts using Aiken’s V (0.923) for relevance, clarity, and coherence. Additionally, a pilot test was validated through Cronbach’s alpha (0.935). Empirical data analysis, focused primarily on mean scores, revealed that the most frequently used functional features are audio models and pronunciation examples in tools like YouGlish, followed closely by immediate feedback in the tool Cake. In contrast, automated speech recognition in tools like Google-Speech-to-Text was the least popular feature used due to limited interactive guidance. Regarding learning strategies, students relied on adjustment on feedback, model imitation, and repetition of pronunciation tasks, indicating learner dependence on real-time corrective guidance. On the other hand, the self-recording of pronunciation strategy received the lowest score. In terms of suprasegmental features, the most developed were intonation and rhythm. These findings suggest that while AI-assisted tools effectively promote contextual clarity and natural speech flow, structured pedagogical interventions must place more emphasis on self-directed monitoring practices and mastering syllable patterns to improve overall communicative competence.

    Feedback Strategies and Speaking Skills
(Universidad Tècnica de Ambato Facultad de Ciencias Humanas y de la Educaciòn Carrera de Pedagogía de los Idiomas Nacionales y Extranjeros, 2026-06-01) Parraga Diaz Lady Diana; Calero Sánchez Ximena Alexandra; Universidad Tècnica de Ambato Facultad de Ciencias Humanas y de la Educaciòn Carrera de Pedagogía de los Idiomas Nacionales y Extranjeros
This quantitative descriptive study examined learners’ perspectives on the use of feedback strategies to enhance speaking skills in EFL classrooms at the Language Center of the Universidad Técnica de Ambato. The study involved 84 participants (35 males and 49 females) who completed a 22-item structured Likert-scale survey. The instrument demonstrated high validity and reliability, obtaining an Aiken’s V coefficient of 0.99 through expert judgment and a Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient of 0.936. The findings revealed that recasting, metalinguistic feedback, and explicit error correction were the most frequently perceived feedback strategies used by instructors. Regarding speaking subskills, learners reported stronger development in turn-taking, discourse markers, and grammatical accuracy, whereas fluency obtained the lowest mean score. In addition, description and narrative tasks were identified as the most commonly implemented speaking activities in the classroom. The results indicate that current feedback strategies primarily support structured and controlled oral production, reinforcing grammatical precision and conversational organization, especially among beginner-level learners. However, the predominance of guided speaking activities appears to limit the development of spontaneous communication and oral fluency. The study concludes that although feedback strategies positively contribute to the improvement of speaking skills, their effectiveness is greater in accuracy-oriented aspects than in fluent oral interaction. Therefore, EFL instructors should integrate a more balanced use of implicit and explicit feedback strategies alongside open-ended communicative tasks that promote authentic language use and greater fluency development.
