(Universidad Técnica de Ambato. Facultad de Ingeniería Civil y Mecánica, Carrera de Ingeniería Civil, 2021-09) Orozco Analuiza, Luis Javier; Portilla Yandún, Favio Paúl
The objective of this project is to improve the road that connects the community of Ambatillo Alto with Cerro Pilishurco in order to provide better roads for tourists and the local population that visit the natural viewpoint of the canton of Ambato; through the application of the MTOP - 2003 regulations, the horizontal, vertical and transversal geometric design of the road was carried out, including soil studies, topographic surveys, traffic studies, pavement design, and the preparation of a reference budget for the execution of this project. The traffic study was carried out in the field by means of manual counts and a TPDA of 243 vehicles/day was determined for a design period of 20 years, classifying the road as a type IV country road. With the data obtained in the soil studies, a flexible pavement structure composed of sub-base, base and asphalt layers is proposed under the application of the AASHTO- 93 methodology; hydraulic designs of ditches and culverts are presented, as well as a traffic study where the correct location of both vertical and horizontal signage is shown. Finally, a referential budget is calculated with its technical specifications and volumes of work according to the activities to be executed in the construction process of this project.

At present, roads are a fundamental element for communication and the economic and social development of towns. This is a project of vital importance to reduce the travel time of people since it allows connecting extreme points directly, reducing time and costs for potential users. The geometric design was carried out through a process of study of the current conditions of the road, the methodology applied in the research was the survey of the terrain with the use of the total station, as well as the traffic count that served as a parameter to categorize the road through the application of the MTOP 2003 standard and allow an optimal design development of the same, also research methods such as documentary bibliography and field research were used, where the characteristics of the road were analyzed in order to have optimal conditions, and thus design a pavement that responds to the traffic solicitations, preserving and maintaining the characteristics of the road, these data were evaluated and fed back with the purpose of complying with the conditioning factors, always seeking the optimization of the physical reality and improving the functionality of the layout.

The technical project presented below is the continuation of a study and information collection, conducted by a group of colleagues, in which he began with topographical studies, using modern equipment such as: RTK and Drone, in order to obtain the relief of the surface of the terrain to compare with the regulations and apply the methods in the determination of the layout. The project studied the volume of vehicle traffic, with the manual counting method during the seven days of the week starting on September 16-22, 2019, lasting 12 hours a day. The Annual Daily Average Traffic was obtained based on data obtained throughout this week in the traffic study, applying the thirty-hour method. Once all the data had been obtained both in the field and in the office, the methods and techniques based on the current Ecuadorian standard MTOP 2003 were applied to determine the different elements of the road based on design criteria, which were horizontal alignment, vertical and cross section of the road. The reference budget for the section under study was US$556,036.89 without I.V.A., was determined by volumes based on the different design parameters previously applied. All of these processes mentioned are tabulated to help your understanding and interpretation, as well as the design are on properly georeferenced planes.

The following technical research project was developed, in order to improve the mobility of the inhabitants of the sector as well as to improve the economic activity that this road represents. The recognition of the place was carried out, to later carry out the topographic survey of the road, and through the study of soils it was determined and identified each of the properties of the soil along the road, carrying out laboratory tests in which applied the different technical standards for its study, such as the ASSHTO method and the ASTM standard, since with the soil studies the design of the pavement structure is carried out. Vehicular traffic was counted to identify the type of road according to the number of vehicles that circulate on it based on the regulations of the Ministry of Public Works, thus allowing us to classify our road as type III. Finally, the analysis of unit prices was carried out, which together with the elaboration of a valued work schedule, it was possible to determine the referential budget and identify the execution time of the technical project.

For the development of this project, a study and direct observation was carried out in order to determine the current conditions of the terrain where the road is going to be made. Then it was socialized with the inhabitants of the sector applying a tentative and previous route of the same. Later the topographic study was continued in which the horizontal, vertical and transversal geometric design of the road with its respective sections of road, mass volumes, ditches and culverts were carried out. Then the study of soils was elaborated. This project was carried out under the norm (MOP-2003), which currently governs as the Ministry of Transportation and Public Works (MTOP) and the Annual Average Daily Traffic (TPDA), was determined by means of manual counting for a period of 12 hours and 7 days. This data was used to determine the number of vehicles passing and AASHTO method was used for 30 hours to determine the traffic projected in the future. Finally, the calculation of the volume of cut and fill mass was carried out, with which it was determined: the analysis of unit prices, referential budget, a valued work schedule and the respective Pre-feasibility studies .
