    Currently, the roads in the sector under study show deterioration of the road infrastructure and lack of maintenance in the urban area, seeking to evaluate the current state of the roads as it impacts the mobility and quality of life of the inhabitants of the Pasa parish in the Ambato canton. In this project, georeferenced data collection was carried out using a global positioning system (GPS), complemented by a visual analysis of the road infrastructure failures. Technical sheets were used to collect the necessary information and determine the state of the roads using the pavement condition index (PCI) method, identifying the level of severity of the failures and evaluating the quality of the tread layer. The evaluation was carried out by visual inspection of the tread layer, using georeferencing techniques and the ASTM D6433-03 regulations, the Ecuadorian Road Standard and the article "Pathology of Articulated Pavements" as references to identify and categorize the irregularities. The Pavement Condition Index (PCI) was used to determine the condition of the roads and propose road maintenance strategies. The study hopes to improve the quality of life of the inhabitants and provide a database to the GAD Municipality of Ambato in collaboration with the Technical University of Ambato. The focus is on developing a road maintenance plan due to the lack of planning, by collecting data from zone 40. This analysis resulted in a set of failures in two types of pavements, flexible and articulated, presenting three types of severity, this was reflected in the database obtained with the record of the failures found. Additionally, a reference budget was prepared for each road, taking into consideration the necessary items for the maintenance and repair of roads, sidewalks and curbs within the study area.

    This project was designed with the objective of obtaining detailed and updated information on the condition of the roads within the urban area of the Izamba parish, which is part of the new history of the city of Ambato, corresponding to zone 27. In the information gathering phase, standardized technical sheets were used, which facilitated the calculation of the general condition of the roads, applying the pavement condition index (PCI). This index made it possible to classify and determine the level of severity of the faults found, in addition to evaluating the quality of the wearing course. To complement the analysis, soil tests and flexible pavement design tests (TPDA) were also carried out, with the objective of recommending the appropriate thicknesses for the structural pavement package on roads that have not yet been asphalted, an accurate database was prepared that will allow the preparation and implementation of an effective road maintenance plan, adapted to the specific needs of the area. To carry out this work, geo-referenced data were collected using a Global Positioning System (GPS), which made it possible to obtain exact coordinates of the locations to be evaluated. In addition, an exhaustive visual analysis was carried out to identify the main faults present in the road infrastructure. As a result of the project, an estimated budget was generated that covers the costs of road infrastructure maintenance, detailing the expenses associated with each type of deterioration found in the different pavement layers. This budget will serve as a key tool for the Municipality of Ambato, allowing it to make informed, data-driven decisions about necessary interventions on urban roads, thus optimizing the process of maintaining and improving the road network. This is expected to increase safety, public confidence, and foster the city's economic and social growth.

    The main purpose of this project was to gather accurate information on the current condition of roads, sidewalks, and curbs in the Augusto N. Martínez parish in the city of Ambato, with the aim of improving the mobility of drivers and pedestrians. During the first phase, the required information was collected for a database that reflected the condition of sidewalks, curbs, and the different types of faults identified in the study area, using the Pavement Condition Index (PCI) according to type. In the second phase, the index facilitated the classification of faults and their severity levels, as well as the evaluation of the quality of the surface layer. This allowed for the creation of a detailed database to design and implement a road maintenance plan tailored to the specific needs of the area. For data collection, georeferenced surveys were conducted using a Global Positioning System (GPS), achieving precise coordinates of the evaluated points. Additionally, a thorough visual analysis was carried out to identify the main deficiencies in the road infrastructure. As a result, an estimated budget was developed, detailing the costs required for the preservation of the road infrastructure, with specific expenses allocated to each type of damage detected in the different pavement layers. This budget serves as a key tool for the Municipality of Ambato to make informed decisions on priority interventions in urban roads, optimizing maintenance and improvement processes. Through these actions, the goal is to increase road safety, strengthen citizen confidence, and promote the economic and social development of the city.

    With the need to have an updated database and with it a road maintenance plan, this project was developed with the objective of obtaining updated information on the status of the roads that make up zone 16 in the city of Ambato. In this project, georeferenced data was collected using a Global Positioning System (GPS), as well as visual analysis of failures in road infrastructure. Technical sheets were used to collect the necessary data and calculate the condition of the roads using the pavement condition index (PCI) method, identifying the level of severity of the failures and evaluating the quality of the wearing course. In addition, a reference budget was prepared for each type of failure found, taking into account the items necessary for the maintenance and repair of roads, sidewalks and curbs in the study area. This resulted in a series of failures found in the three types of pavements, the majority of medium and low severity, even so, with the calculation of the PCI it was established that there are good and very good classification roads, concluding that these roads need a periodic maintenance, all this was reflected in the database that was obtained with the record of all the faults found. In addition, a reference budget of $104,226.45 US dollars was estimated for the maintenance plan. This will be delivered by the Technical University of Ambato to the Municipal GAD of Ambato.

    In this project, the condition of the urban roads in the canton of Ambato has been evaluated; there are visible physical changes due to climatic changes in recent years, as well as the population growth of society. At the beginning of the project, a visual inspection of the study area was carried out, taking into account the condition of the different types of pavements found in the area. This process was carried out in a meticulous manner with the use of data collection cards and the use of GPS to georeference each existing failure, then the condition of the roads was evaluated using the PCI method, resulting in the level of severity and knowing the characteristics of the roads in order to carry out adequate road maintenance. With the data obtained, a database was generated in a specialized software to take into account where and how the study area is located. Next, once the number of failures in the study area was taken into account, a referential budget for road maintenance was made, generating a solution to the poor condition of the roads. The benefits in road maintenance will increase the socio-economic status of the city, and the increase of commerce and education, finally, the project in question will be delivered in a database to the GAD de Ambato, as a contribution of the Universidad Técnica de Ambato.

    This project focuses on the analysis of the deterioration of the road infrastructure in the urban area of the city of Ambato because it focuses on the evaluation of the factors that cause problems on the roads, such as wear, cracks and ruts, with the objective of identifying critical areas. A georeferenced survey of the roads was carried out using the Global Positioning System (GPS), this for the evaluation of the different types of wearing layers such as flexible, rigid and articulated pavements, as well as sidewalks and curbs following the ASTM D6433 standard. 03, in this way the level of severity of the observed failures was determined, obtaining the conclusion that they exist mostly of medium and low severity. All this was recorded in a detailed database with the type of failure, photo and georeferenced location. With the data obtained previously, the PCI Pavement Condition Index method was used. As a result, a reference budget was developed for the maintenance of the road infrastructure, based on the items obtained for each type of failure found in the different road layers, which will allow the Municipality of Ambato to make precise decisions about the roads evaluated. providing a valuable tool for the maintenance and improvement of road infrastructure in the urban area, contributing to the safety and trust of the community, promoting the economic and social development of the city.

    This project highlights the importance of analyzing the state of the roads in the urban area of the Ambato canton. As time progresses, the asphalt surface and the pavement structure experience significant changes which currently mainly harm the inhabitants of the sector since they would be affected when traveling since it is a busy area. Within the framework of this research, a visual study was carried out focused on the urban area of Huachi Loreto in the Ambato canton. This analysis was based on the collection of data through information sheets, using a GPS to locate anomalies and defects along the evaluated roads. We use the “Pavement Condition Index” (PCI) method to identify the level of severity and condition of the wearing course on busier roads, thus providing a basis for adequate road maintenance. A specialized program was used where all the data on the different pathologies of the different types of pavements collected were collected. Additionally, a reference budget was developed for the repair and maintenance of the study area. The geographical information collected will be delivered to the Decentralized Autonomous Government (GAD) Municipality of Ambato. This act seeks for the entity to use the information for the benefit of the community, representing a significant contribution of the Technical University of Ambato towards local development and well-being.

    The project focuses on addressing the need to evaluate the current state of urban roads in the canton of Ambato, in response to the growing problem of deterioration affecting its road infrastructure. The importance of maintaining an optimal level of road conditions stands out as a crucial element for the sustainable development of the city. This deterioration not only represents a challenge in terms of mobility and road safety, but also has a direct impact on the quality of life of citizens. In this study, a visual inspection of the wearing course was carried out in the urban area of the Ambato canton, using geo-referencing techniques through GPS points and considering the extension of each road in the analysis. ASTM D6433-03 standards, the Ecuadorian Road Standard and the article "Pathology of Articulated Pavements" were used as references to identify and evaluate the anomalies present in the roads; these guidelines served as a framework to categorize and quantify the irregularities, allowing the preparation of a referential budget. In addition, the Pavement Condition Index (PCI) method was used to determine the condition of the roads in order to propose road maintenance strategies. As a result, this research will improve the quality of life of the inhabitants of the sector and at the end of the evaluation a database will be delivered to the GAD Municipality of Ambato to use this information for the benefit of society, in a joint effort with the Technical University of Ambato.

    In this project, the state of the urban roads in the Ambato canton is evaluated, visible physical changes are presented due to climatic alterations in recent years, and thus the population growth of the society. Starting the project, a visual inspection of the study area was carried out, considering the state of the different types of pavements found there. This process was carried out meticulously with the use of information gathering sheets and with the use of GPS to georeferenced each existing failure, the state of the roads was then evaluated using the PCI method, resulting in the level of severity and knowing the characteristics that the roads present to carry out adequate road maintenance. With the data obtained, a database was generated in specialized software to consider where and how the study area is located. Next, once taking into account the number of failures in the study area, the reference budget for road maintenance was made, generating a solution to the poor condition of the roads. The benefits in road maintenance will increase the socio-economic status of the city, and the increase in commerce and education, finally, the project in question will be delivered in a database to the GAD of Ambato, as a contribution from the Technical University of Ambato.

    This project shows the need to evaluate the road conditions of the city of Ambato, since the road infrastructure has been affected by climate change and vehicular flow over the years, thus affecting the development of the economy, commerce, agriculture and tourism. In the first instance, a visual evaluation of the road surface was carried out to identify defects in the different types of pavements. To detect existing defects, an informative survey was carried out, recording the location of the defect, its type, dimension and degree of severity. These activities were carried out with manual GPS and accompanied by a technical sheet with detailed information on the defects and their severity, such severity was identified with the calculation of the PCI road condition index, in order to offer timely alternatives for road maintenance. Based on this evaluation, a reference budget was prepared for the restoration of the study area and then all the information was compiled in a database in order to provide greater utility to this project. After the evaluation of the roads, the database will be sent to the Municipal Directorate of Ambato Canton so that the information generated can be used for the benefit of the community as a collaboration of the Technical University of Ambato.
