Item Análisis experimental de la estabilización de suelos arenosos del sector La Libertad de Huachi Grande mediante la adición de cal, cemento y ceniza de totora: evaluación de propiedades físicas y mecánicas y su aplicación en infraestructura vial(Universidad Técnica de Ambato-Facultad de Ingeniería Civil y Mecánica-Carrera de Ingeniería Civil, 2026-07-03) Altamirano Villacís Katherin Ibeth; Acosta Lozada Rodrigo Iván; Universidad Técnica de Ambato-Facultad de Ingeniería Civil y Mecánica-Carrera de Ingeniería CivilThis research evaluates the effect of adding totora reeds as an alternative stabilizer for improving sandy soil intended for road subgrades and compares its performance with the results of stabilization using lime and cement. The study arises from the need to develop sustainable alternatives that overcome dependence on conventional materials and evaluate innovative and environmentally responsible solutions with a construction approach that allows for the development of more efficient infrastructure aligned with environmental sustainability criteria. The experimental work was developed based on the physical and mechanical characterization of the soil in the La Libertad sector of the Huachi Grande parish. It was determined that the soil corresponds to a poorly graded sand (SP) according to the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS) and to a granular material type A-3 according to the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Resources (AASHTO) system. Regarding the mechanical properties, a CBR of 14.40% was obtained, classifying it as a fair subgrade. Subsequently, the physical and mechanical properties of the soils were evaluated with additions of 5%, 10%, and 15% lime, cement, and cattail ash. The results showed that all three stabilizers improved the soil's bearing capacity, reaching a maximum CBR value of 240.00% with the 15% cement addition, while lime reached a maximum value of 62.40% with a 10% dosage. Cattail ash achieved a maximum CBR of 24.10% with a 10% ash content. Finally, the technical and economic feasibility analysis concluded that totora ash is the best alternative for stabilizing the subgrade of sandy soils, since according to the CBR value it is determined to be a very good subgrade, while stabilization with lime and cement results in a good and very good base, which are considered oversized for the established objective of stabilizing the subgrade, and the cost is high compared to that of stabilization with totora ash.Item Diagnóstico Normativo Y Propuesta Técnica De Adecuación De La Infraestructura De Residuos Sólidos En El Campus Huachi De La Universidad Técnica De Ambato(Universidad Técnica de Ambato-Facultad de Ingeniería Civil y Mecánica-Carrera de Ingeniería Civil, 2026-07-01) Amores Posligua Alison Stephania; Acosta Lozada Rodrigo Iván; Universidad Técnica de Ambato-Facultad de Ingeniería Civil y Mecánica-Carrera de Ingeniería CivilThe present study aimed to diagnose and propose a technical adaptation of the solid waste infrastructure at the Campus Huachi of the Universidad Técnica Ambato. The research adopted an applied, descriptive, and evaluative approach with a mixed methodology, organized into three phases: baseline data collection, diagnosis of regulatory compliance, and structuring of the adaptation proposal. The results showed a weekly generation of 586.47 kg of waste, with a per capita production of 0.0114 kg/person/day, and a composition in which 40% corresponds to recoverable materials, representing significant potential for recovery and recycling programs. The regulatory diagnosis revealed a critical compliance level of 18.18%, with gaps concentrated in source separation, temporary storage, labeling, and the absence of systematized records. In response to these gaps, the technical adaptation proposal includes the standardization of five operational processes: system planning and control, source separation using standardized containers, waste reduction and recovery, internal collection with weighing and technical records, and classified temporary storage with external delivery. Each process was supported by the national regulatory framework and indicators from the UI GreenMetric standard. In conclusion, the proposal establishes a solid technical foundation for progressing toward comprehensive, organized, and verifiable solid waste management, aligned with national regulations and international standards for university sustainability.Item Diseño geométrico y del pavimento de la vía Chaupi Cruz – Quishpe Alto en el tramo 4+250 hasta 8+428 pertenecientes al recinto el Empalme cantón Pangua provincia del Cotopaxi(Universidad Técnica de Ambato-Facultad de Ingeniería Civil y Mecánica-Carrera de Ingeniería Civil, 2026-01-15) Rosero Iza Edgar Adalberto; Acosta Lozada Rodrigo Iván; Universidad Técnica de Ambato-Facultad de Ingeniería Civil y Mecánica-Carrera de Ingeniería CivilThe present project involves the development of a road infrastructure aimed at connecting the communities of Chaupi Cruz and Quishpe Alto, which belong to the El Empalme settlement, located in Pangua Canton, Cotopaxi Province. This thesis focuses on supporting the growth and development of these communities, as the lack of an adequate roadway prevents local residents from having a safe and efficient means to transport agricultural products for commercialization. To this end, a topographic survey of the road corridor was carried out using modern surveying equipment, including RTK technology and a drone. In addition, a vehicular traffic study was conducted based on data obtained from vehicle counts over seven consecutive days, including Saturday and Sunday. As a result, a projected AADT (Average Annual Daily Traffic) of 179 vehicles per day was obtained for a 20-year design period, classifying the roadway as a Class IV road according to MTOP regulations. Soil investigations were performed, including natural moisture content, grain size analysis, Atterberg limits (liquid limit and plastic limit), Modified Proctor, and CBR tests, in order to determine the physical and mechanical properties of the soil. The results made it possible to assess soil behavior and establish whether the material is suitable for use or requires improvement for roadway and pavement design. The geometric design of the roadway was developed in accordance with Ecuadorian MTOP and NEVI-12 standards, while the pavement structure design was carried out using the AASHTO 1993 methodology, with the objective of ensuring optimal conditions of safety, functionality, and efficiency in vehicular circulation. A preliminary cost estimate was also preparedItem Evaluación de la red vial en área urbana de la parroquia Totoras del cantón Ambato, específicamente la zona 61(Universidad Técnica de Ambato-Facultad de Ingeniería Civil y Mecánica-Carrera de Ingeniería Civil, 2026-01-14) Aldás Moreta Jessenia Marilú; Acosta Lozada Rodrigo Iván; Universidad Técnica de Ambato-Facultad de Ingeniería Civil y Mecánica-Carrera de Ingeniería CivilThe road network is a system of roads that facilitates the movement of people and goods. However, there are areas where the road network is in extremely poor condition due to neglect by the relevant authorities. This results in many sectors lacking adequate road infrastructure due to the deterioration of the road surface, which primarily affects the functionality of the roads. Therefore, evaluating the road network in areas such as the Totoras parish, Zone 61, is important to define the areas requiring intervention. This evaluation provides relevant information that will allow for determining the appropriate type of maintenance, based on the severity of the road surface deterioration, thus extending the useful life of the evaluated roads. To this end, three phases of action were established, planned according to the specific objectives to be developed. These phases included activities such as topographic surveying using drones and RTK (Real-Time Kinematic) technology. In addition, a traffic study was conducted using manual vehicle count data and the 30th-hour design time method for calculations. Five laboratory tests were also performed: natural moisture content, particle size analysis, Atterberg limits (liquid and plastic limits), modified Proctor compaction test, and CBR test. Furthermore, the pavement condition was evaluated using the PCI method and complemented with the pavement structure design, ultimately leading to the development of a preliminary budget for the project. The road network assessment was carried out on a total of 11 roads, 8 of which are fully paved and 3 of which have a mixed composition of asphalt and paving stones. A total of 352 defects were identified, 8 of which were sidewalk defects and 3 curb defects. Likewise, the results revealed that patching and service connection failures are predominant in the sector, occurring 130 times, while bulging and subsidence failures, as well as lane/shoulder unevenness, were observed once along the evaluated area.Item Evaluación de la red vial en el área urbana de la parroquia Izamba de la Nueva Historia de Ambato, comprendida en la zona 2(Ingeniería Civil y Mecánica. Carrera Ingeniería Civil, 2025) Mejía Sánchez Dennis Wilman; Acosta Lozada Rodrigo IvánThe purpose of this project is to evaluate the road infrastructure at the request of the GAD, with the aim of obtaining detailed data and information on the current condition of the various roads in Zone 26 of the Izamba parish in the Ambato canton, and to determine the necessary interventions for each road. A detailed database was created for the GAD Ambato based on the various failures observed in flexible pavement, which were obtained through a field inspection and recorded using the UTM Geo Map and Timestamp Camera applications on a phone. This facilitated the implementation of road maintenance works according to the interventions and recommendations suggested by the road evaluation. The process was carried out in three phases, with the following activities: Phase One: Topographic survey of the area using RTK equipment in conjunction with a drone. The data was then processed using specialized software to create a detailed map of the area, which included the roads, sidewalks, curbs, drainage systems, and even the irrigation channels present. Phase Two: The evaluation of the road infrastructure was performed using the Pavement Condition Index (PCI), which allowed for the classification and determination of the severity of the observed failures based on sampling units. This allowed the identification of the necessary works to restore the functionality of the roads, ensuring proper and comfortable vehicle mobility for the area’s residents. These failures were recorded using the aforementioned applications, and all data was georeferenced. As a result, complementary studies were carried out, including the Annual Average Daily Traffic (TPDA), soil study, and CBR testing. This data was then used to develop the design for the road infrastructure, with suggested thicknesses for its implementation according to AASHTO 93, MTOP, and NEVI standards. Phase Three: After completing the road evaluation, a reference budget was prepared based on the recommendations for the works and interventions needed for road maintenance and rehabilitation in Zone 26 of the Izamba parish in the Ambato canton.Item Evaluación de la red vial en el área urbana de la parroquia Izamba de la nueva historia de Ambato, comprendida en la zona 28(Ingeniería Civil y Mecánica. Carrera Ingeniería Civil, 2025) Quispe Freire Luis Angel; Acosta Lozada Rodrigo IvánHe main objetivé of this research has to evaluate the rad network in the urban area of the Izamba parish, part of the Nueva Historia of Ambato, located in zone 28 of Tungurahua province. This study arose due to the importance of road infrastructure for socioeconomic development and the recurring issues of deterioration caused by vehicular traffic, weather conditions, material quality, and lack of road maintenance. Using the Pavement Condition Index (PCI), the existing failures in both flexible and interlocking pavements were analyzed, allowing the determination of the type of intervention required for each road to ensure its functionality and preservation. To achieve the objectives, a quantitative methodology was adopted, developed in three phases. First, a topographic survey was conducted using a drone and an RTK device, which enabled the acquisition of high-resolution images and the development of the area's planimetry. Subsequently, 144 failures were identified and classified across 16 roads, covering 4959.5 meters of flexible pavement and 470.1 meters of interlocking pavement, with a total length of 5429.6 meters. Additionally, a soil study determined a CBR value of 20.36 percent, classifying the subgrade as excellent. The study also defined the type of road maintenance required for the flexible pavement roads: rehabilitation for one road, periodic maintenance for four roads, and routine maintenance for six roads. Finally, a referential budget was prepared. The results provided a database for the GAD Municipality of Ambato to support decisionmaking regarding the conservation and maintenance of the road network in the urban area of Izamba parish. This study emphasizes the importance of a comprehensive technical assessment to ensure the sustainability and functionality of urban road infrastructure, contributing to the development of the parish.Item Evaluación de la Red Vial en el Área Urbana de la Parroquia Izamba de la Nueva Historia de Ambato, Comprendida en la Zona 31(Ingeniería Civil y Mecánica. Carrera Ingeniería Civil, 2025) Tarco Laica Daysi Del Pilar; Acosta Lozada Rodrigo IvánThe road infrastructure of a city is essential for its economic and social development. In this context, studies were conducted that revealed the deterioration of the roads in the analyzed sector, compromising the safety and reliability of users. The analysis began with the determination of the Pavement Condition Index (PCI) for the roads in zone 31. Subsequently, the current and projected Average Annual Daily Traffic (AADT) was evaluated, complemented by tests such as natural moisture content, granulometry, Atterberg limits, Modified Proctor compaction, and California Bearing Ratio (CBR). Based on these results, a maintenance plan was proposed according to the identified damages. The study projected traffic over a 20-year period for the roads requiring intervention, including Ciro Peñaherrera Street, Pedro Vásconez Avenue, and Julio Castillo Street, with traffic volumes of 747, 2049, and 1166 vehicles, respectively. According to the MTOP 2003 classification, these roads are categorized as collector roads, which will help improve mobility in the surrounding areas. Soil tests indicated that the subgrade consists of high-quality clayey sand, providing a suitable base for road rehabilitation. Finally, the estimated cost to implement the maintenance plan amounts to 801,980 US dollars and 51 cents, which will enhance traffic conditions and extend the lifespan of the road infrastructure.Item Evaluación de la red vial en el área urbana de la parroquia Izamba de la nueva historia de Ambato, comprendida en la zona 33(Universidad Técnica de Ambato-Facultad de Ingeniería Civil y Mecánica-Carrera de Ingeniería Civil, 2026-01-22) Culqui Buenaño José Ricardo; Acosta Lozada Rodrigo Iván; Universidad Técnica de Ambato-Facultad de Ingeniería Civil y Mecánica-Carrera de Ingeniería CivilRoad infrastructure constitutes a fundamental pillar for socio-economic development and safe urban mobility, playing a decisive role in the territorial planning of contemporary cities. In this context, and in strategic coordination with GADMA (Autonomous Decentralised Government of Ambato), a comprehensive study was conducted to evaluate the current condition of the road network in the urban area of Izamba parish, specifically in Zone 33, with the objective of producing a technical diagnosis of the existing system, thereby supporting sustainable development and enhancing the quality of life in the community. The methodology was structured into three technical phases. The first phase comprised a topographic survey using RTK (Real Time Kinematic) in Zone 33, alongside a detailed traffic flow analysis, providing an accurate and up-to-date characterisation of the current state of the road infrastructure. The second phase involved laboratory testing in accordance with current technical standards to determine the physical and mechanical properties of the soil, while the pavement condition was assessed using the PCI (Pavement Condition Index) method, establishing the existing level of deterioration. The third phase entailed the preparation of a detailed budget, including the costs of materials, specialised labour, and equipment, ensuring the economic feasibility of the proposed interventions. As a result, an integrated rehabilitation plan was developed, addressing existing pavement deficiencies and enhancing the structural capacity of the road network, thereby ensuring durable and safe infrastructure. In addition, a georeferenced database containing comprehensive technical information was delivered to the Municipal GAD, representing a valuable academic contribution from the Technical University of Ambato to the social and urban development of the city.Item Evaluación de la red vial en el área urbana de la parroquia Santa Rosa de la nueva historia de Ambato, comprendida en la zona 53-56(Universidad Técnica de Ambato-Facultad de Ingeniería Civil y Mecánica-Carrera de Ingeniería Civil, 2026-01-26) Mejía Banda Joseph Fernando; Acosta Lozada Rodrigo Iván; Universidad Técnica de Ambato-Facultad de Ingeniería Civil y Mecánica-Carrera de Ingeniería CivilThe main objective of this project was to assess the condition of the urban road infrastructure in the Santa Rosa parish, located in the Ambato canton, specifically in zone 53–56. To achieve this, the Pavement Condition Index (PCI) was used, allowing for the identification and classification of roadway failures, as well as the determination of their severity levels. Additionally, a georeferenced survey of the area was carried out using precision equipment such as an RTK, GPS and a drone, which facilitated the acquisition of accurate coordinates and the capture of images for a detailed visual analysis of the existing defects. In the second phase, a traffic study and an analysis of its impact on the road infrastructure were conducted, along with a soil study to evaluate the quality of the material beneath the roadways. This phase made it possible to determine the type of maintenance required based on the road conditions and the results obtained from the PCI, as well as to calculate the Average Annual Daily Traffic (TPDA) and its future projection. The outcome of this work was the development of an intervention plan for road maintenance, which mainly includes the type of intervention required according to the PCI index, as well as an estimated budget covering the costs of the activities necessary for roadway rehabilitation and preservation. This budget analysis will serve as a tool for local authorities to make informed decisions and optimize resources to maintain and improve the road network, all with the aim of enhancing mobility and the quality of life of the residents of the Santa Rosa parish.Item Evaluación del efecto de los agregados de asfalto reciclado en las propiedades físico-mecánicas de las mezclas asfálticas en caliente(Universidad Técnica de Ambato-Facultad de Ingeniería Civil y Mecánica-Carrera de Ingeniería Civil, 2026-07-03) Montesdeoca Chafla Camila Monserrath; Acosta Lozada Rodrigo IvánThis research evaluated the effect of incorporating recycled asphalt pavement (RAP) aggregates on the physical-mechanical and volumetric properties of hot mix asphalt using the Marshall method. The study was conducted using a comparative experimental approach structured in three phases: characterization of the stone materials; design of conventional and modified asphalt mixtures using the Marshall method; and analysis of the properties in relation to the optimal asphalt cement content, in accordance with standard MOP-001-F-2002. For the experimental work, stone aggregates were collected from the Kumochi Mine, recycled stone aggregates (RAP) obtained from the milling of the Jaloa–El Guasmo road in Quero Canton, and AC-20 asphalt binder from the JEAL Construcciones plant. Two types of mixtures were designed: a conventional mixture consisting of 100% new aggregates and a modified mixture containing 20% RAP, both of which meet the requirements and demonstrate feasibility for use in the design of asphalt pavements for heavy traffic. This study addresses the need to optimize material resources and reduce the environmental impact caused by the extraction of virgin aggregates for road infrastructure without altering its structural design. The percentage of residual asphalt binder in the recycled aggregates was determined, yielding a value of 5.69%, which intrinsically translates to 1.14% equivalent to 20% RAP in the mixture. Using the Marshall method, the optimal asphalt binder content was determined for both mixtures, yielding a value of 6.20%. Analysis of their properties concluded that the incorporation of 20% RAP results in increased stability compared to the conventional mixture. Conversely, the flow decreased but remains within the range required by MOP-001-F-2002, which indicates that the mixture is sufficiently rigid to prevent rutting while resisting plastic deformations caused by traffic loads. It is concluded that the incorporation of recycled material improved the performance of its properties in the mix design, making it technically viable and capable of withstanding traffic loads.
