    FUERZA DEL HALLUX VALGUS Y RELACIÓN CON EL DOLOR DE LA FASCIA PLANTAR EN BAILARINES DE DANZA FOLCLÓRICA

    This study analyzed the relationship between hallux valgus force and plantar fascia pain in folk dancers. The sample consisted of young people aged 15 to 17 who practice dance. A digital dynamometer was used to measure hallux valgus force, the VAS scale to assess plantar pain, and the ImageJ software to calculate the hallux valgus angle. The findings revealed that the average force between both feet was similar, at 67.14 ± 18.28 N for the right foot and 67.08 ± 11.75 N for the left foot. However, the right foot showed greater variability. Regarding plantar pain, the left foot presented mild discomfort, while the right foot presented moderate pain, reaching severe levels on some occasions. As for the hallux valgus angle, both feet showed mild deformities. When evaluating the relationship between the variables, no statistically significant relationship was found between hallux valgus strength and plantar fascia pain, indicating a virtually nonexistent correlation. This suggests that pain intensity was not directly linked to the measured strength, but rather may have depended on other functional and biomechanical factors related to the physical demands of folk dance.

    RELACIÓN ENTRE LA FLEXO-EXTENSIÓN DE CODO Y LA VELOCIDAD DE IMPACTO DE LA PELOTA DURANTE EL SAQUE EN TENISTAS

    This study analyzed the relationship between elbow flexion-extension and ball impact velocity during the serve in male tennis players. A quantitative approach was employed using a non-experimental, correlational, and cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 15 amateur and competitive tennis players, generating a total of 45 records from three serve attempts per participant. Through biomechanical analysis, elbow flexion and extension angles, as well as ball impact velocity, were assessed. After confirming data normality, Pearson’s correlation coefficient was applied. The results revealed a strong negative correlation between elbow flexion and ball impact velocity (r = -0.894; p < 0.05), and a strong positive correlation between elbow extension and velocity (r = 0.850; p < 0.05). It is concluded that elbow biomechanics significantly influence serve performance, and that proper technical execution is a relevant factor for optimizing athletic performance and contributing to injury prevention.

    ANÁLISIS BIOMECÁNICO DE LA RELACIÓN ENTRE MOVILIDAD ESCAPULAR Y LONGITUD FUNCIONAL DEL MÚSCULO PECTORAL MENOR EN TRABAJADORES DE OFICINA

    This study analysed the relationship between scapular mobility and the functional length of the pectoralis minor muscle in office workers at COAC Maquita Cushun Ltda. The research addressed the need to understand biomechanical alterations associated with sedentary work. Prolonged sitting in front of a computer can lead to sustained postures of the neck and shoulders. It may also alter the functional behaviour of the shoulder girdle. A quantitative approach was applied, using a non-experimental design with a correlational scope. The sample consisted of 30 administrative workers of both sexes. Scapular mobility was assessed using the Lateral Scapular Glide Test. The functional length of the pectoralis minor was measured using the Pectoralis Minor Position Index. The results showed greater scapular differences at 45° and 90° abduction positions. The largest average difference in the scapular test was 1.67 cm. The pectoralis minor index showed values consistent with shortening in part of the sample. No statistically significant relationship was found between scapular mobility and the functional length of the pectoralis minor. It is concluded that both variables should be assessed as part of a comprehensive physiotherapeutic evaluation of the shoulder-scapular complex.

    RELACIÓN ENTRE LA FUERZA DE PRENSIÓN MANUAL Y EL RENDIMIENTO EN EL TEST DE CAMINATA DE 6 MINUTOS EN PACIENTES DIABÉTICOS

    This study aimed to analyze the correlation between handgrip strength and performance in the 6-minute walk test in 30 diabetic patients from the "Sweet Club of Ambato City", aged between 40 and 60 years. A quantitative, correlational, crosssectional approach was used. Handgrip strength was assessed using a Camry brand dynamometer, and performance was evaluated through the 6-minute walk test. The handgrip strength results showed an average of 20.82 kg in the right hand and 20.72 kg in the left, demonstrating a similar level of strength between the right and left hands. Regarding functional performance, the patients covered an average distance of 411.4 meters, indicating variability among the individuals evaluated. Statistical analysis was performed using Pearson's correlation coefficient, revealing a positive and significant correlation between handgrip strength and performance in the 6-minute walk test (right; r = 0.531; p = 0.003) (left; r = 0.544; p = 0.002). Therefore, it is concluded that handgrip strength is related to performance in the 6-minute walk test in the diabetic population, indicating that greater handgrip strength is associated with a greater distance covered.

    RELACIÓN DE LA CINEMÁTICA Y EL SALTO CON LOS DOS PIES EN JUGADORES DE FÚTBOL

    This study examined the relationship between lower limb kinematic variables and the distance achieved in the two-foot jump test among soccer players from Club América de Toacazo in Latacunga. The research addressed the need to expand the traditional assessment of jumping which focuses solely on the distance achieved by analyzing the angular behavior of the hip, knee, and ankle during the athletic movement. A quantitative approach was applied using a non-experimental, cross-sectional, analytical design with a correlational scope. The sample consisted of 30 adult soccer players. Movement was recorded via video in the sagittal plane, using reflective anatomical markers, measurement of the bipedal horizontal jump, and biomechanical analysis with Kinovea software. The results showed a mean hip flexion of 71.01°, knee flexion of 97.40°, and ankle dorsiflexion of 93.43°. The average jump distance was 1.81 m. No statistically significant associations were found between the joint angles evaluated or the jump distance obtained. It is concluded that performance in the bipedal jump does not depend on a single angular pattern, but rather on individual movement strategies.

    EFECTO DEL WHOLE-BODY VIBRATION EN EL EQUILIBRIO DE ADULTOS MAYORES

    In the geriatric population, maintaining balance and functional mobility is crucial for preserving autonomy and reducing the risk of falls. In this context, the Whole-Body Vibration platform emerges as an effective physiotherapy resource, given its properties for stimulating neuromuscular activation and postural control. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of Whole-Body Vibration on the balance of older adults. A quantitative, quasi-experimental, longitudinal approach was used. Twenty older adults (8 men, 12 women) participated, whose initial balance capacity was assessed using functional tests such as the Tinetti Balance Scale, the Short Physical Performance Battery, and the Timed Up and Go test. Subsequently, training with the vibration platform was applied for 8 weeks, three times per week, concluding with a final assessment to determine the impact of the applied stimuli. Following the intervention, Tinetti showed a reduction in the moderate risk of falls from 85.0% to 30.0% and an increase in the low risk from 15.0% to 70.0% (p = 0.001; r = 0.74). In SPPB, severe limitations decreased from 55.0% to 0.0%, and minimal limitations increased from 0.0% to 55.0% (p < 0.001; r = 0.88). In TUG, the mean time decreased from 18.45 ± 2.68 s to 14.10 ± 2.14 s (p < 0.001; d = 1.35). It is concluded that the intervention using the Whole-Body Vibration platform enhances balance in the geriatric population, constituting a useful tool within the field of physiotherapy to optimize motor function and prevent accidents, although these results should be interpreted considering limitations such as the sample size and the absence of the control group.

    RELACIÓN ENTRE EL ESFUERZO PERCIBIDO Y EL EQUILIBRIO DINÁMICO EN ADULTOS DEPORTISTAS RECREACIONALES

    The present research analyzed the relationship between perceived exertion and dynamic balance in recreational adult athletes, considering that the fatigue generated by physical activity can modify postural control and decrease functional performance. Dynamic balance allows maintaining stability during movements, single-leg supports, changes of direction, and continuous body adjustments; therefore, its assessment is important for people who regularly engage in recreational sports. The objective of the study was to analyze the relationship between the perceived level of effort and dynamic balance in recreational adult athletes. A quantitative, non-experimental, correlational, and cross-sectional study was conducted with a sample of 25 participants. Perceived exertion was assessed using the Borg Scale 6-20, while dynamic balance was evaluated using the Y Balance Test, considering the initial and final composite scores after a controlled submaximal protocol. The results showed that the initial composite score of dynamic balance had a mean of 89.84 ± 4.14, while the final composite score was 85.55 ± 3.25. The comparison of paired samples showed a mean decrease of 4.29 points after the effort. Additionally, it was observed that participants with better baseline performance tended to maintain better performance after exertion, although with a general decrease in dynamic balance. It is concluded that perceived exertion is related to dynamic balance in recreational adult athletes.

    PROGRAMA DE ENTRENAMIENTO CON RING FIT ADVENTURE PARA EL MANEJO DE LA RESISTENCIA AERÓBICA AL EJERCICIO EN POLICÍAS ADMINISTRATIVOS

    The Cooper test is a simple and easy-to-administer test, classified as a maximal test, which serves to estimate VO2 max (maximum oxygen consumption). The objective of this research was to evaluate the effectiveness of a training program using Ring Fit Adventure in improving aerobic exercise endurance in police officers within the administrative staff. A quantitative approach was used, as changes in aerobic exercise endurance were objectively measured before and after a structured intervention. A quasi-experimental longitudinal design was employed, specifically a pretest-posttest design with a single group of young adults. All collected data were statistically analyzed using SPSS software, yielding mean, standard deviation, percentage, frequency, and normality test values. During the intervention using the Ring Fit Adventure exergamer device, a significant improvement in cardiorespiratory performance was observed among the participants. The results showed that participants achieved a distance of 2119.4 m ± 268.49 m on the first attempt of the pretest and 2296.45 m ± 21.81 m on the second attempt. The estimate was calculated using the formula VO2max = Distance - 504.1 / 44.9. Therefore, it is concluded that there was an improvement in aerobic endurance and better adaptation to exertion in the administrative police personnel after the intervention and application of the Cooper test.

    TERAPIA MANUAL EN LA DORSIFLEXIÓN DEL TOBILLO Y SU EFECTO EN LA MECÁNICA DEL ATERRIZAJE DEL SALTO EN EL BALONCESTO

    This study examined the effect of manual therapy applied to ankle dorsiflexion on landing mechanics during jumping in basketball players at the “Desde el Ser” Academy in Ambato. The research addressed a preventive need in this sport. Repeated jumps and landings place a high load on the lower extremities. Restricted dorsiflexion can alter jump reception and increase technical errors during the movement. A quantitative approach was applied using a longitudinal quasi-experimental design with an analytical scope. The sample consisted of 30 basketball players aged 12 to 17. Ankle dorsiflexion was assessed using goniometry. Landing mechanics were evaluated using the Landing Error Scoring System. The intervention consisted of talocrural mobilization using the Mulligan technique for two months. The results showed an increase in dorsiflexion in both ankles. The right ankle improved by 5.53° and the left by 5.30°. The LESS score decreased from 5.47 to 4.20 points. This change reflected a lower number of errors during landing. It is concluded that manual therapy promoted ankle mobility and improved the technical quality of landing in the evaluated players.

    RELACIÓN ENTRE LA RESISTENCIA DEL CORE Y EL EQUILIBRIO DINÁMICO EN BOXEADORES

    The present study aimed to analyze the relationship between core endurance and dynamic balance in adolescent boxers. The study was conducted due to the importance of body stability in boxing, a sport that requires coordination, postural control, and rapid movements. A quantitative approach with a correlational and cross-sectional design was employed. A total of 30 boxers aged 14 to 18 years from the Qantico Sports Center in Ambato participated in the study. Core endurance was assessed using the McGill tests, while dynamic balance was measured through the Y-Balance Test. Anthropometric data, including body weight, height, and body mass index, were also collected. The results showed that most participants demonstrated adequate levels of core endurance, particularly in the lateral tests. However, dynamic balance revealed poor performance in a large proportion of the participants. The main findings indicated that the correlation between core endurance (extensor-flexor ratio) and dynamic balance was very weak for both the right lower limb (Rho = -0.070; p = 0.712) and the left lower limb (Rho = -0.018; p = 0.924). Likewise, lateral core endurance showed a weak positive correlation with the left Y-Balance Test score (r = 0.285; p = 0.126) and an almost nonexistent correlation with the right side (r = 0.001; p = 0.994). These values indicate that there was no statistically significant relationship between the variables assessed. Furthermore, the findings were compared with previous studies conducted in other sports, where improvements in balance were observed following core training programs. Finally, it was concluded that although no significant relationship was found between core endurance and dynamic balance, core strengthening remains important for improving body stability and preventing injuries in boxers.
