This research focuses on the identity analysis of the Guaricha's attire within the Diablada Pillareña, a cultural expression recognized as intangible cultural heritage of Ecuador and considered one of the most representative festive expressions of the Píllaro canton. The study is based on the premise that clothing transcends its aesthetic function to become a symbolic system capable of communicating values, beliefs, identities, and cultural meanings that strengthen collective memory and the community's sense of belonging. From a theoretical perspective, the research addresses the relationship between the cultural context of the Diablada Pillareña and the construction of collective identities, analyzing how the Guaricha's attire reflects processes of tradition, cultural transformation, and hybridization between inherited and contemporary elements. Likewise, the Guaricha is examined as a festive character who, through her clothing, expresses symbolic representations linked to femininity, transgression, satire, and social critique, revealing tensions related to gender roles and current sociocultural dynamics. The study considers the Guaricha's attire as the independent variable, addressing aspects related to its components, main garments, accessories, materials, tailoring techniques, formal elements, functions, and symbolic meanings. The dependent variable, in turn, corresponds to the cultural significance, analyzed through symbolic and social dimensions that allow for an understanding of the interpretation of signs, cultural values, symbolic representation, cultural identity, sense of belonging, social interaction, and the role this character plays within the festival. The theoretical foundations are based on contributions from authors such as Geertz, Hall, García Canclini, Barthes, Turner, Entwistle, and Bourdieu, who allow us to understand clothing as a visual language and a dynamic cultural manifestation. From this perspective, the research recognizes that the meanings associated with the Guaricha's attire are neither static nor homogeneous, but rather are constantly being reinterpreted due to social, cultural, heritage, and tourism-related factors. Finally, the research seeks to contribute to the understanding of the cultural and identity value of the Guaricha's clothing, highlighting its importance as an element of collective representation, cultural heritage, and a means of symbolic expression within the Diablada Pillareña. It also aims to contribute to strengthening local historical memory and generate academic knowledge that allows for a critical evaluation of the processes of conservation, transformation, and transmission of this cultural manifestation in contemporary society.

Corporate clothing in Ecuador responds to standardized norms of Western origin that exclude the symbolic expressions of Indigenous peoples, generating a gap between cultural identity and the formal work environment. The Puruhá culture settled in the Riobamba canton, province of Chimborazo, faces a gradual loss of its cultural identity due to the scarce offer of garments with identity in the local market, this situation intensifies when women of this culture access corporate spaces and must opt for dress codes that do not reflect their cultural legacy. This research aimed to design a collection of corporate tailored garments that incorporate symbols of the Puruhá culture, in order to highlight Indigenous cultural identity. A qualitative approach of descriptive and exploratory scope was used, based on the User-Centered Design methodology, structured in four stages: context analysis, requirements definition, design and evaluation. Focus groups were carried out with Indigenous Puruhá women from the corporate environment, semi-structured interviews were conducted with artisans from the Licto parish and with the owner of the company Sueños D’ Novios, bibliographic sources and observation sheets were reviewed. The results were validated through methodological triangulation. The important symbols that could be reinterpreted were identified: the chacana, the quingo, the elongated rhombus and zoomorphic figures such as the amaru serpent. Users gave priority to vests, loose-cut pants, blazers and coats in a chromatic palette that ranged between dark tones with accents in pink, blue, green, red and yellow. The collection called Kawsay Yuyari was developed through the intervention of industrial embroidery, which certifies the aesthetic and technical feasibility of incorporating the symbolisms of the Puruhá culture into corporate tailored garments. It is concluded that clothing design can function as an instrument for cultural valorization, articulating Indigenous identity.

(UNIVERSIDAD TÉCNICA DE AMBATO FACULTAD DE DISEÑO Y ARQUITECTURA CARRERA DE DISEÑO TEXTIL E INDUMENTARIA, 2025-07-28) Cárdenas Oviedo Gabriela Paulina; Solís Sánchez Sandra Jacqueline; UNIVERSIDAD TÉCNICA DE AMBATO FACULTAD DE DISEÑO Y ARQUITECTURA CARRERA DE DISEÑO TEXTIL E INDUMENTARIA
This research seeks to create a women's apparel collection that incorporates ropemaking techniques, in collaboration with the entrepreneurial group "Semilleros." This project aims to preserve a craft practice that is at risk of disappearing, giving it new value through its aesthetic, functional, and sustainable application in the fashion industry. To achieve this objective, a methodology based on the nine domains of design was applied, which facilitated a detailed analysis of the user, their environment, and the purpose of the garments. Qualitative studies, including interviews, focus groups, and experiments, were conducted to identify the appropriate types of knots, the most suitable materials, and the preferences of the target audience. Throughout the creative process, visual, conceptual, and symbolic elements were established that shaped the collection's proposal. The results show that rope-making, especially macramé, has great potential to be integrated into contemporary textile design, providing artisanal value, a unique aesthetic, and a sustainable approach. Collaboration with local entrepreneurs strengthened the connection between design and the artisan community, promoting both economic development and cultural preservation. Ultimately, the project successfully combines traditional techniques with modern fashion design, generating an innovative proposal that responds to current market demands, reaffirms cultural identity, and protects intangible heritage through design.

This project proposes the design of a women's clothing collection that incorporates handwoven textiles created in collaboration with the artisans of the Puruhá people. The initiative is based on three key pillars: the revalorization of cultural identity, sustainability, and collaborative economy. From a cultural perspective, the project aims to preserve and reinterpret handwoven textiles, strengthening the sense of belonging and promoting Ecuadorian textile heritage. Technically, it envisions a fusion between tradition and modernity, integrating artisanal fabrics with contemporary garment-making techniques to create original and competitive pieces. Collaboration with the Puruhá artisans not only ensures the authenticity of the products, but also drives local economic development by generating job opportunities and strengthening community cohesion. Furthermore, social inclusion is encouraged by integrating communities into more equitable value chains. The project's methodological approach is interdisciplinary and participatory, ensuring that the designs highlight traditional techniques and symbolism. It includes market research, prototype validation, and the adaptation of the collection to the preferences of the target audience. In response to the growing homogenization of global fashion, this proposal positions itself as a conscious, sustainable, and culturally meaningful alternative that seeks to revitalize the art of handwoven textiles and offer garments with identity and added value in the women's fashion market.

This thesis project focuses on the design of a clothing collection that incorporates the embroidery technique, in collaboration with the women of the Simiatug Samai association in the province of Bolívar. The research addresses a bibliographic review of the traditional embroidery technique of Simiatug, a community known for its rich cultural and artisanal heritage. Through a qualitative methodology that combines research, market analysis, and clothing design, the project seeks to better understand the community's cultural identity and the needs of the modern market. The proposed collection integrates traditional embroidery with contemporary designs, targeting a market of national and international tourists who value craftsmanship and cultural identity. The project seeks to revitalize the embroidery technique through income generation and the promotion of its work on local and international platforms. The research results include the identification of the association's main internal management needs and collaboration with artisans, the technical and aesthetic characteristics of Simiatug embroidery, and the preferences of the selected market to define a clothing collection that combines traditional techniques with modern designs. This project demonstrates that the integration of traditional techniques with contemporary designs is not only possible but can also be an effective strategy for cultural preservation and the economic empowerment of artisan communities.
