This technical project was carried out in order to design and build a safety cage that complies with all the parameters described for safety structures in Article 253 of Annex J of the International Automobile Federation (FIA) Regulations and the Regulations of the Ecuadorian Automobile and Karting Federation (FEDAK). Different existing safety cage designs were investigated in order to obtain an adequate configuration of the structure and it was modeled using computer aided design (CAD) software based on the Hyundai Grand i10 vehicle model. A computer aided engineering (CAE) software was used for the simulation, where tests of loads applied on the structure were performed to measure its displacement in different directions, also frontal and lateral crash tests with a pole were performed to check if the structure mounted on the vehicle withstands these impacts without breaking any of its elements. The results of the simulations show that the safety cage complies with the ranges established in the FIA homologation regulations for safety cages and a good performance was obtained under normal operating conditions and in cases of impact.

The development of the present technical project carried out in the city of Ambato focuses on the design, analysis and construction of a structure of a roll bar (anti roll cage) modeled for a Chevrolet Corsa vehicle that will be put into competition in the rally mode and mountain climbs in the various championships to be held in the country in order to provide the greatest safety to the crew of the car in compliance with the regulations imposed by the International Automobile Federation. The structure is built with structural steel manufactured in Ecuador modeled and analyzed under official FIA regulations where the desired results were obtained to have the reliability for installation in the vehicle and to test it in several competitions carried out by FEDAK (Ecuadorian Federation of Motorsports and Kartismo) where it has been observed that the Roll Bar has a good behavior as a structure inside the car without deformations or ruptures in any part of the structure. All the analyzes and modeling were carried out in softwares with licenses granted to the Technical University of Ambato and the collection of some data of the materials used were obtained from reliable sources of documents made by teachers of the Faculty of Civil and Mechanical Engineering.
