    Communicative language teaching (CLT) activities to develop English speaking skills

    Currently, society requires highly trained professionals in all areas, and the English language is not the exception, that is why students need to learn to communicate in a foreign language. However, the development of speaking skill has not been easy to acquire due to the traditional methodologies such as memorization of dialogues, repetitions, excessive grammatical activities and absence of updated material used during the teaching-learning process of the English language. That is why the objective of this research study is to analyze the Communicative Approach CLT (Communicative Language Teaching) as a method to improve the Speaking Skill in the third level English students of the Language Center of the Technical University of Babahoyo. Therefore, during the research period the researcher established two groups of 30 participants each. The methods applied in this study was quantitative and qualitative. In the first phase, a pretest was applied to know the initial situation of the 60 participants. In the second phase, a post-test was used to determine the influence on improving the speaking skills using communicative activities. The quantitative method was used to know the attitudes of the participants towards the CLT methodology. It was done through a survey which was only applied to the treatment group. Afterward, the data collection and analysis was carried out, and the results showed that the use of communicative activities had a positive effect on the development of oral skills; likewise, the participants said they felt satisfied and very motivated with the implementation of the communicative activities based on CLT approach.

    Backwards design model in English Micro Curriculum Planning

    In the educational environment, planning processes lead to consider a wide range of elements that intervene and combine harmoniously to achieve a goal that is the efficiency and quality of education. The present study aims to determine which aspects are most relevant and appropriate in order to meet the characteristics of a proactive education within the context of language teaching at university level. This idea is reflected in the implementation of a planning format based on the "Backwards Design". The information was collected from the comparison of application of a survey to a group of 48 teachers of English and the revision of 48 lesson plans taken at random from the same group mentioned above. The teachers belong to the Language Center at the Technical University of Ambato and teach English at different levels ranging from elementary to advanced. There was a qualitative and quantitative method to process the information. Both sources of information were contrasted, and the results indicated that the planning approach of teachers does not match their lesson plans and that these do not provide the elements of a proactive planning. These findings allowed the development and adaptation of a new format of planning that brings together important aspects for quality instruction that promotes the development of autonomous learners.

    Las técnicas de estudio y el rendimiento académico de los estudiantes de los décimos años de la Unidad Educativa Nicolás Martínez

    The present investigation work, is about techniques to study and the academic performance of the students of the Tenth Year of Basic General Education from San Bartolomé of Pinllo. It allows to know the effects that could be produced when having a limited application of the techniques to study; as well as disinterest and demotivation. This affects the academic performance of the students provided that they do not know how to organize their work and how to use techniques that promotes their learning, as a result their academic performance will be affected. After applying a survey, it was demonstrated that the students’ learning is in a neutral level. The survey also showed how the students organize and plan their academic activities. in In the theoretical framework, there are some guidelines that the students should practice. In addition, it is necessary that teachers produce meaningful results in the teaching and learning process. In order to do this, it is essential to develop teaching techniques and methods according to each subject. In this project, it was very important to know how the students get their knowledge and who needs to learn applying teaching methods that are used when the teachers plan. The evaluation at the end of each term shows the results the students had in the teaching-learning process. A complete change in the educational process is long. The techniques to study, and the parents’ and teachers’ help will help to achieve this goal: a quality and warmth education reaching the standards of living well.
