(Universidad Técnica de Ambato. Facultad de Ingeniería Civil y Mecánica, Carrera de Ingeniería Civil, 2024-08) Valencia Medina, Bryan Alexander; Aldás Sánchez, Milton Rodrigo
The preparation of this Technical Project responds to the need to provide safe and comfortable mobility to the inhabitants of the sector who are dedicated to agriculture and livestock. Furthermore, the objective is to reduce travel times and promote the economic and social development of the intervened areas and their surroundings. During the investigation, the topographic survey was carried out using the high-precision RTK GPS and a drone to capture orthophotos, delimiting the 50m topographic strip on each side of the road and a study length of 4,091km. In addition, a traffic study was carried out by manually counting vehicles in the project area, in which it was projected that by the year 2044, the TPDA will be 473 vehicles per day and the number of equivalent axles will be 48,606, Classifying a class III road, the geometric design was carried out in accordance with the Ecuadorian regulations MTOP 2003 and NEVI - 2012. For the design of the pavement, a soil study was carried out in the laboratory, resulting in a design CBR of 15 percent. Applying the AASHTO-93 Method, thicknesses of 5 cm were established for the asphalt layer, 15 cm for the class 3 granular base and 15 cm for the class 3 granular subbase. Finally, a reference budget for the project was developed with a value of $1,455,549.94, detailing items and volumes of work, providing a clear understanding of the resources necessary for the execution of the proposal.

A properly maintained road network system is essential to extend the useful life of a road, provide a high level of serviceability, comfort and safety to the user. For this reason, it was necessary to visually and structurally analyze the pavement of the road that goes from the intersection with La Troncal de la Sierra (E35) to the Galte Chine Pungo Community, in the section KM 4+000 to KM 8+000, recognizing the present faults and the interpretation of pavement deflections to propose a road maintenance plan appropriate to its conditions. The development of this experimental work was divided into three main phases: in the first, the samples for testing were extracted, the traffic volume, the Pavement Condition Index and road deflections were determined; In the second, the data obtained from the field were processed to determine the TPDA, the number of equivalent axles, the condition of the track by calculating the PCI and the deflections; In the last one, a road maintenance plan was proposed with its budget. The methodology used was generally quantitative because mathematical processes were used. As a result, type I deflections were obtained with a subgrade and a pavement with good behavior, the average PCI was 78.28 points, therefore it is a road in good condition that needs routine maintenance and a reference budget of $104,337.93.

As the population grows, its construction waste does the same, an example of this is the waste from sanitary slabs which, when it presents faults or imperfections, are discarded and not used. Having pozzolanic properties such as Aluminum, Calcium and Silicon, it was thought to incorporate this material in the stabilization with cement bases of aggregates class 3 and 4, since a partial replacement of cement would reduce the impact in terms of construction and economy. Initially, we proceeded with the collection of samples of aggregates class 3 and 4 so that we could know about their mechanical properties before altering them either with cement or ceramic powder. Ceramic dust was obtained from the sanitary slab discarded from the FV industry (Franze Viegener), and then incorporated into the stabilization of these aggregates, where the percentage of cement was decreased and the percentage of ceramic dust was increased according to the regulations (MOP-001-F002). Finally, we obtained the mechanical properties of the samples altered mainly the CBR and proceeded with the design of the pavement structure and its budget based on already known studies of the “Asfaltado de la vía San Rafael, San Juan, Chan, E35, Parroquia Eloy Alfaro cantón Latacunga Provincia de Cotopaxi”. Where vehicle couting was used to find the equivalent axels.

The present technical work has the purpose of implementing a conservation technique in the wearing course of the Tisaleo road in the section 12+800 up to 16+200 in the province of Tungurahua. By means of the collection of data it will be possible to know the present state of the road, the same ones that will be able to be used for future studies of the topic or deepen on topics of maintenance and road evolution that determine actions that cause that the road is in suitable conditions to offer comfort and convenience to the users. For the development of the project, data were collected in the field, which was carried out by means of a georeferenced survey of the section under study, in which an abscissa is considered every 20 meters which are taken with a GPS (satellite receiver), allowing the model to be made digital road. A vehicle traffic study was carried out that consisted of counting vehicles for a period of one week and twelve consecutive hours, which allowed determining the ADTT. Damages and failures on the road were recorded, taking their measurements and affected areas, in addition to data such as track widths for later calculation. Using these data, the Pavement Condition Index (PCI) was calculated and a Benkelman beam deflection test and a CBR soil study were carried out to determine the structural state of the road.

The purpose of this technical project is to carry out the evaluation of the operation and structural conditions of the pavement of one of the main collector roads located south of the city of Ambato. The thesis began with the determination of the TPDA through a traffic analysis through the realization of counts and categorization of the vehicles that circulate on the road. For the functional evaluation of the pavement, the PCI (Pavement Condition Index) method was used, which is based on a visual classification of the faults of the tread layer of the pavements for their respective assessment quantitatively according to the level of damage that has the same. To complement the above information, the measurement of deflections in the pavement was carried out through the Benkelman beam to verify compliance with the admissible deformations. Additionally, a soil study investigation was carried out, it was discovered that the properties of the particle layer of the pavement structure complied with the specifications proposed by MTOP. Finally, in the study of asphalt concrete, the percentage of bitumen of several samples taken from two sections of the track was obtained. It was determined that in the old asphalt concrete the percentage of asphalt is lower than the optimum while the repaved section meets the required specifications Finally, this thesis is concluded with a budget of the most deteriorated sections.
