    FUERZA DEL HALLUX VALGUS Y RELACIÓN CON EL DOLOR DE LA FASCIA PLANTAR EN BAILARINES DE DANZA FOLCLÓRICA

    This study analyzed the relationship between hallux valgus force and plantar fascia pain in folk dancers. The sample consisted of young people aged 15 to 17 who practice dance. A digital dynamometer was used to measure hallux valgus force, the VAS scale to assess plantar pain, and the ImageJ software to calculate the hallux valgus angle. The findings revealed that the average force between both feet was similar, at 67.14 ± 18.28 N for the right foot and 67.08 ± 11.75 N for the left foot. However, the right foot showed greater variability. Regarding plantar pain, the left foot presented mild discomfort, while the right foot presented moderate pain, reaching severe levels on some occasions. As for the hallux valgus angle, both feet showed mild deformities. When evaluating the relationship between the variables, no statistically significant relationship was found between hallux valgus strength and plantar fascia pain, indicating a virtually nonexistent correlation. This suggests that pain intensity was not directly linked to the measured strength, but rather may have depended on other functional and biomechanical factors related to the physical demands of folk dance.

    Grip strength establishes an essential functional capacity for manipulating objects, performing activities of daily living, and carrying out professional tasks, and is of great importance in occupations that require precision and manual physical effort, such as carpentry. Finger amputations are one of the most common occupational injuries, causing significant alterations in the biomechanics of the hand and its functional performance. The purpose of this study was to compare the difference in hand grip strength between the dominant and non-dominant hands of carpenters with finger amputations belonging to the group of skilled craftsmen at the MR STANDS company, located in the canton of Latacunga. The methodology used was based on a quantitative, descriptive, cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 30 carpenters with and without finger amputations, aged 18 to 65, who were evaluated with the “JAMAR” dynamometer to obtain grip strength values. The results showed a marked decrease in the grip strength of participants with amputations, with statistically significant differences (p < 0.05) compared to the group without amputations. Most injuries were found in the distal phalanx of the middle finger, which directly impacted grip stability and strength, even in the dominant hand. These findings confirm that the anatomical integrity of the fingers is crucial for maintaining hand strength and that amputation of the middle finger has a significant effect due to its central position in the pincer function. In conclusion, finger amputations, especially of the middle finger, significantly reduce grip strength and alter the biomechanics of the hand regardless of laterality. This research demonstrates the need to implement prevention and functional rehabilitation programs that contribute to improving the work capacity and quality of life of affected carpenters.

    FUERZA DE AGARRE Y SU RELACIÓN CON LA RESISTENCIA MUSCULAR EN DEPORTISTAS DE CONTACTO

    The present study, entitled “Grip strength and its relationship to muscular endurance in contact sports athletes,” aimed to determine the relationship between hand grip strength and upper limb muscular endurance in 40 contact sports athletes from the Cotopaxi Sports Federation, aged between 14 and 17 years. A quantitative, correlational, cross-sectional approach was used. Grip strength was assessed using a Jamar hydraulic dynamometer, while muscular endurance was measured through push-ups and pull-ups. The results showed that the average grip strength of the right hand was 27.89 kg and that of the left hand was 25.48 kg, highlighting a lateral dominance in the right hand. In terms of muscle endurance, the athletes achieved an average of 30 repetitions in the push-up test and 4 repetitions in the pull-up test, demonstrating greater performance in pushing exercises. Statistical analysis was performed using Spearman's Rho coefficient, obtaining a positive and significant correlation between grip strength and performance in the pull-up test (ρ = 0.635 right; ρ = 0.642 left; p < 0.001), while no significant correlation was found with the push-up test. These results demonstrate that greater grip strength promotes the ability to sustain repetitive efforts, making it an important indicator of functional performance in combat sports. It can therefore be concluded that grip strength is related to upper limb muscle endurance, highlighting its decisive role in athletic performance.
