RESULTADOS DE LA ESCALA FAB COMO INDICADOR DE ACTIVIDAD MOTORA INSTRUMENTAL DETERIORADO

The aim of this study was to analyze the Frontal Assessment Battery (FAB) as a potential indicator of deterioration in instrumental motor activity in older adults without a neurological diagnosis. An observational, cross-sectional, and analytical study was conducted with a sample of 67 older adults residing in Ambato, Ecuador. The FAB and the Lawton and Brody scales were applied to assess executive function and functional independence, respectively. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Spearman’s correlation, both for the overall sample and stratified by gender. Results showed a moderate and significant correlation between both scales in the overall analysis (ρ = 0.389; p = 0.0011) and a significant correlation in women (ρ = 0.425; p = 0.0008), whereas no significant associations were found among men. These findings suggest that better executive function is associated with improved performance in instrumental activities of daily living, particularly in women. It was concluded that the FAB may be a useful tool in functional assessment within the physiotherapeutic approach, supporting early detection of functional decline and the design of interventions to promote autonomy in older adults.
