The present research project was carried out with the purpose of analyzing the relationship between temporomandibular joint disorders and the practice of wind instruments, the methodology of the study was a non-experimental design, cross - sectional and correlational type of quali-quantitative approach, two evaluations were used, Helkimo's clinical dysfunction index that through the interpretation of frequen t signs and symptoms in temporomandibular disorders allows knowing the level of dysfunction, and Rocabado's pain map that recognizes the painful sensitivity in eight specific zones found in the joint, these evaluations were applied to 40 musicians who are part of the Municipal Band of Ambato and the Symphonic Band of the Honorab l e Provincial Government of Tungurahua. Among the results obtained we found a slight limitation in the opening and sliding of laterotrusion and a severe limitation in mandibular protrusion, also the presence of articular noises and pain in the media l pterygoid and masseter muscles in their deep and superficial bundle, the areas with greater presence of painful sensitivity based on Rocabado's pain map were zones 3, 5 and 6 corresponding to the lateral collateral ligament, posteroinferior synovial and posterosuperior synovial respectively. It is concluded that most of the musicians presented a Helkimo index of moderate level and that the hours of study or practice of the instrument per day is the only factor that has a moderate positive signific a n t relation with the tendency to present a greater index of alteration.
