This research evaluates the efficiency of bioretention systems implemented in Stage I of the Malecón Boayacu as a sustainable alternative for stormwater management. The main objective was to analyze the hydrological and environmental impact of these green infrastructures in reducing runoff and improving water quality. A mixed-methods approach was applied, combining quantitative analysis (EPA SWMM hydrological modeling and laboratory water tests) with qualitative techniques (surveys and interviews with 70 residents and local authorities). Results indicate that bioretention systems reduced runoff volumes by up to 80% and improved water quality by 60% in heavy metals and 70% in turbidity, confirming their effectiveness in tropical rainfall conditions. The discussion emphasizes the adaptation of design criteria to local clay soils and the importance of community-based environmental education. A replicable green infrastructure model is proposed, integrating technical performance, landscape design, and citizen participation. It is concluded that bioretention is a viable tool for building climate resilience in Amazonian cities, enhancing urban stormwater management, environmental health, and residents’ quality of life
