Maestría con mención en Obras Hidráulicas, 2025-12-15) Toapanta Tapia Edgar Joel; Yépez Martínez Verónica ValeriaThe present study evaluates the efficiency of drip irrigation for kidney tomato cultivation in Salache–Barbapamba, Salcedo canton, in response to the increasing scarcity and inefficient use of water in rural agriculture. To this end, the area's water requirements were characterized, an optimized irrigation system was designed using hydraulic modeling, and its theoretical performance was compared with traditional methods, validating the results through simulation and scenario analysis. An experimental design based on hydraulic and agronomic modeling was applied using specialized software, considering treatments with emitter spacings of 0.20 m, 0.30 m, and 0.70 m, and lateral pipes of 11.6 mm. Parameters such as pumping flow rate (1.23– 24.18 m³/h), uniformity and distribution coefficients, and system precipitation were evaluated. Results show that the optimized drip irrigation achieved uniformity coefficients between 96.33% and 97.88%, compared to 81%–88% in conventional configurations. Precipitation was 2.33 mm/h, with homogeneous water application. An emitter spacing of 0.30 m was identified as the most efficient option, balancing hydraulic performance, technical feasibility, and cost. The system enabled water savings exceeding 30% compared to traditional methods, increasing crop yield. The research demonstrates that drip irrigation systems designed through hydraulic modeling constitute a technically and economically effective alternative to optimize water efficiency and enhance kidney tomato productivity. The proposed model integrates technical and economic criteria and emerges as a replicable strategy in other agricultural areas, contributing to responsible water resource management.
