Intangible cultural heritage is one of the most important elements for the preservation of the identity and collective memory of communities, as it encompasses traditions, knowledge, and cultural expressions. In this context, the Mama Negra Festival is one of the most recognized celebrations in Ecuador and is also known internationally for its historical richness and symbolic significance. However, over time, this celebration has undergone changes influenced by new social and cultural trends. In addition, there is a limited availability of graphic resources that clearly explain the origin of the festival, the meaning of its characters, as well as the dates and reasons for its celebration. This research proposes the editorial design of an illustrated book aimed at children between 8 and 12 years old, as a resource to help transmit the meaning and importance of the Mama Negra Festival. Through various graphic elements and illustrations, the project seeks to develop an attractive and accessible book that strengthens knowledge about the festival, promotes cultural identity, and contributes to the appreciation of the cultural heritage of Latacunga. For the development of this project, interviews and surveys were conducted with editorial designers, graphic designers, and children in order to identify their interests, preferences, and expectations regarding the content and design of the material. Based on the information collected, an editorial proposal was developed to contribute to the preservation of intangible cultural heritage. This resource is intended not only for children in the city but also for the community as a whole. In conclusion, the editorial design developed constitutes a supporting tool for the preservation and strengthening of the intangible cultural heritage represented by the Mama Negra Festival.

The old Kindergarten Juan Gutenberg, located in the city of Machachi, Mejía canton, is a property of historical value that currently presents an advanced physical deterioration and a state of abandonment, completely dissociating itself from the dynamics of its current urban environment. This problem not only affects the image of the area, but puts at risk a key architectural component for the collective memory and the conservation of the cultural identity of the local community. Given this situation, this work proposes a comprehensive proposal for architectural rehabilitation aimed at resignifying the building, rescuing its heritage character and adapting it efficiently to social demands and current functions. Methodologically, the research was developed through a qualitative approach that combined the technicalpathological diagnosis of the current state of the property, the architectural survey and the analysis of previous studies and research on the subject. From this diagnosis, intervention criteria were defined focused on the optimization of spaces, functional adequacy and rigorous conservation of the built heritage. Finally, an architectural proposal was designed that integrates respect for the historical memory of the building with a contemporary spatial solution, transforming the building into a cultural center that promotes its artistic activation through spaces intended for the teaching and practice of art and culture. The proposal seeks to strengthen the sense of local belonging through a responsible, contextualized and sustainable architectural intervention.

The Pujilí canton, province of Cotopaxi, Ecuador, concentrates one of the most representative intangible manifestations of the country: the Dancer of Corpus Christi, declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Nation. Despite this, the canton lacks permanent cultural facilities, so the production of costumes, the practice of dance and the custody of ceremonial objects depend on domestic, religious and festive spaces. Zambrano's (2022) inventory warns that the intergenerational transmission of the ritual reaches only 52% of valuation, while the Development and Territorial Planning Plan of the Pujilí canton 2021-2026 confirms the absence of specialized cultural infrastructure. The idea to defend argues that the design of a cultural architectural preliminary project, based on the reinterpretation of the symbolic elements of the ritual of the Corpus Christi Dancer, can constitute an active instrument for the intergenerational preservation of the intangible cultural heritage of the canton. The research adopts a mixed qualitative-quantitative method with a projectual approach, based on Groat and Wang (2013), structured in four phases: identification of the need in the cantonal PDOT; analysis of how to respond with a preliminary project; expert validation using the Delphi method with semi-structured interviews; and triangulation of criteria to produce project guidelines. The main result is the preliminary project of the Cultural Center of Dancers, organized around the central courtyard that links four areas of equal weight — production, practice, exhibition and services), structured according to Gadamer's hermeneutics and the principle of culture as a determinant of form by Rapoport (2003).

Designer Edgar Rey specializes in creating high-end gala dresses, characterized using fine materials, meticulous finishes, and artisanal processes that position his personal brand as a local benchmark in premium fashion. His designs combine haute couture techniques with a contemporary vision, prioritizing the exclusivity, technical precision, and aesthetic sophistication demanded by today's market. The project is justified by the need to create high-end designs that respectfully integrate ancestral textile knowledge with contemporary haute couture techniques. In Ecuador, there is little connection between the cultural heritage of communities such as Salasaka and luxury fashion, which creates an opportunity to develop collections that engage in a dialogue between identity and culture. The use of Lunéville is proposed as a technical bridge capable of reinterpreting Salasaka iconography without falling into folklorization, strengthening the revaluation of the national textile heritage. Methodologically, the research is conducted using a qualitative approach, employing observation sheets, experimentation sheets, interviews, and a focus group. The results demonstrate the technical and aesthetic viability of Lunéville embroidery for transferring the symbolism of Salasaka tapestries to high-end textile surfaces, consolidating a proposal based on cultural, technical, and design criteria. Finally, the research culminates in a collection of high-end dresses that fuse Salasaka iconography with Lunéville embroidery, providing an innovative proposal that makes a significant contribution to Ecuadorian fashion by promoting designer fashion with cultural identity and international appeal.

This research, entitled “Constructive analysis of a traditional house built using vernacular techniques in the canton of Cevallos,” arises in response to the need to rescue and value the traditional architectural knowledge that persists in the Ecuadorian Andean territory. This study, part of the Architecture, Heritage, and Technology program at the Technical University of Ambato, contributes to the recognition of traditional housing as an expression of the cultural, social, and architectural heritage of the province of Tungurahua. The work is significant for its contribution to the understanding of vernacular building systems and their role in the cultural landscape of Cevallos. It recognizes that traditional architecture is not only a material resource but also a symbol of identity and sustainability, as it uses local materials and inherited techniques that are adapted to the environmental and social conditions of the place. Methodologically, the study was conducted using a qualitative approach, with a non-experimental, cross-sectional, descriptive-analytical design, based on Hernández Sampieri's methodology. It was structured in three phases: one of theorization, through bibliographic analysis of traditional housing and vernacular techniques; another of case analysis, through direct observation, architectural survey, and technical data sheets applied to a representative dwelling in the canton; and a final phase of applied synthesis, where a technical construction guide was developed as the final product. The results show the coherence between construction systems and the natural environment, as well as the validity of empirical knowledge in strengthening territorial identity. The technical guide constitutes an academic and professional contribution that seeks to preserve and disseminate vernacular construction principles for future architectural interventions with cultural relevance and environmental sustainability.

This research proposes the design of an interpretive center as an architectural facility to strengthen the development of agrotourism in the Patate canton, located in the province of Tungurahua. The study is based on identifying a territorial gap: the lack of infrastructure that connects knowledge, productive practices, and cultural expressions related to rural life. In this context, an architectural proposal is formulated to integrate educational, productive, recreational, and symbolic activities into a single functional space. Through a qualitative and territorial methodology, interviews were conducted with local authorities, along with analysis of regulations, a case study of the Parque Provincial de la Familia, and mapping of cultural and tourism nodes. These methods allowed for the definition of territorial priorities and the extraction of spatial, operational, and symbolic criteria applicable to the design of the interpretive center. The results show that Patate has strong potential to consolidate an agrotourism corridor rooted in local identity and culture. The architectural proposal responds to this diagnosis with a hierarchical, flexible layout that aligns with the physical and sociocultural context. It includes exhibition areas, educational spaces, commercial and gastronomic zones, and management areas, using mixed construction systems that combine pre-existing resources and local materials such as wood and exposed brick. The project is conceived as a territorial catalyst for local development, promoting the appreciation of cultural heritage, environmental education, and economic revitalization of the region.
