Propuesta arquitectónica de un centro interpretativo para el desarrollo del agroturismo en el cantón Patate

Abstract

This research proposes the design of an interpretive center as an architectural facility to strengthen the development of agrotourism in the Patate canton, located in the province of Tungurahua. The study is based on identifying a territorial gap: the lack of infrastructure that connects knowledge, productive practices, and cultural expressions related to rural life. In this context, an architectural proposal is formulated to integrate educational, productive, recreational, and symbolic activities into a single functional space. Through a qualitative and territorial methodology, interviews were conducted with local authorities, along with analysis of regulations, a case study of the Parque Provincial de la Familia, and mapping of cultural and tourism nodes. These methods allowed for the definition of territorial priorities and the extraction of spatial, operational, and symbolic criteria applicable to the design of the interpretive center. The results show that Patate has strong potential to consolidate an agrotourism corridor rooted in local identity and culture. The architectural proposal responds to this diagnosis with a hierarchical, flexible layout that aligns with the physical and sociocultural context. It includes exhibition areas, educational spaces, commercial and gastronomic zones, and management areas, using mixed construction systems that combine pre-existing resources and local materials such as wood and exposed brick. The project is conceived as a territorial catalyst for local development, promoting the appreciation of cultural heritage, environmental education, and economic revitalization of the region.
