This study analyzes how mobility flows influence the socio-spatial dynamics associated with public spaces. The research arises from the need to recognize mobility as a catalyst for multiple spatial interactions and urban processes. Although the relationship between mobility and public space has been addressed in Latin American studies, these phenomena are often examined separately, overlooking the ways in which they are interconnected. The research adopted a qualitative approach supported by both qualitative and quantitative techniques and instruments. Data collected through bibliographic review, spatial quantification, interviews, and observation sheets were analyzed individually and collectively through mapping and triangulation methods. The findings made it possible to identify four main dimensions through which mobility relates to public space: mobility as a generator of social encounters, an activator of urban environments, a producer of spatial fragmentation, and a factor that shapes urban perceptions. Overall, the study concludes that mobility significantly influences public space; however, it is not the sole determining factor, since other conditions contribute to processes such as appropriation, sense of belonging, and perceptions of urban livability. The research confirms the proposed relationship between mobility and public space while also revealing additional aspects for future analysis. Furthermore, it highlights that any street-related intervention, whether linked to mobility or not, should acknowledge existing socio-spatial dynamics in order to avoid negatively affecting the urban environment.

The study is located in the El Recreo neighborhood of Ambato and focuses on a technical analysis of a defined 200 x 200-meter grid. This area is in a state of critical deterioration, characterized by a complete lack of functional green infrastructure— technically registering a value of zero per inhabitant—and a high rate of soil sealing. Given this scenario, it is crucial to apply sustainability indicators such as urban tree diversity and perceived green space to mitigate the urban heat island effect. The proposed approach argues that introducing green infrastructure into public spaces mitigates the heat island effect, noise, and air quality issues, thereby enhancing livability without compromising the functionality of the existing built environment. The methodological process employs direct observation and graphic synthesis techniques using base mapping, within the framework of ecosystem-based urban planning and the Sustainable Compact Neighborhoods methodology. Variables related to mobility, biodiversity, and urban metabolism were evaluated to design an efficient biotic support network that ensures physical proximity to local basic services. The final proposal implements a vegetation network articulated by pocket parks and native vegetation along roadways, achieving greater diversity in urban tree cover. This physical intervention redesigns the public road network to prioritize pedestrians, reducing noise by five decibels and regulating ambient temperature by twelve degrees Celsius. The comprehensive transformation ensures a resilient urban system focused on community well-being and the proactive restoration of ecosystem services vital to the city.

This paper presents the preliminary architectural design for the Cultural Center of the Cevallos canton, Tungurahua province. Cevallos is a canton with a tradition in the footwear industry, fruit growing, and agritourism; however, it lacks sociocultural facilities for artistic creation and community engagement. This deficit excludes women, children, youth, and senior citizens due to the concentration of sports facilities in the area. The justification for this project rests on the 6.32% achievement of the sociocultural goals of the 2023-2027 Territorial Development Plan (PDOT) and the need to align cantonal planning with Sustainable Development Goal 11 of the 2030 Agenda, which focuses on inclusive and sustainable cities. The research adopts a qualitative approach with inductive logic, conceptualizing it within the principles of Frampton's (1983) critical regionalism and the analysis of cultural references at the international, national, and local levels. The techniques applied include field observation, interviews with local stakeholders, and a review of regulations that support the project. The operationalized variables encompass volumetric adaptation, vernacular materials, passive bioclimatic strategies, and universal accessibility. Ultimately, the resulting proposal consists of a preliminary design that integrates architectural plans, a functional program derived from the needs assessment, bioclimatic strategies, and spatial visualizations, all aimed at strengthening the sociocultural cohesion of the canton through architecture that engages with the Andean landscape, the topography of the site, and its local context..

This research develops the urban design for the articulation of patrimonial buildings in the central core of Ambato, which includes the visual and functional disconnection of tangibles heritage assets. This situation was caused by urban transformations and modernization processes that took place after the 1949 earthquake, as well as administrative decisions that prioritized commercial and modern growth over conservation. As result, fragmentation was generated in the center of the city and also, an imbalance in urban identity. The principal objective was to integrate heritage buildings into the current dynamics of the city through visible routes and a reconfiguration of public space focused on pedestrian experience. Furthermore, the project looks for the prioritization of heritage appropriation and to recover the historic urban landscape. The methodology had a combined approach in which through interviews, perception surveys, mappings supported by sustainability indicators and a bibliographic review, a general diagnosis was established identifying problems of walkability, accessibility, visual pollution, heritage perception, and generally quality of public space. As a result, the proposal reconfigures the condition of public space based on the operation of three articulation axes and one as a support located on the streets of Rocafuerte, Sucre, Montalvo and Mera, which connect the selected heritage buildings, in this case the cultural ones, so that the user could easily guide themselves toward these places. The intervention includes strategies based on mobility, urban legibility and heritage appropriation strategies to strengthen the urban identity of the city by reorganizing public space.

The scattered development model in intermediate cities affects territorial fragmentation and the deficit of qualified public spaces. This research formulated the Complementary Urban Plan for Public Space for the urban area of Cevallos canton, aimed at reconfiguring vacant land into a green infrastructure network integrated into the mobility system. Methodologically, the study adopted a non-experimental, crosssectional design with a mixed descriptive-propositive approach. A purposive sample of three experts was defined, and data collection included regulatory analysis matrices on management instruments, thematic cartography based on Geographic Information Systems with territorial indicators, and the discourse analysis of the specialists. The project proposal was structured into three operational phases. The first aligned the macro objectives of local instruments to catalog sector plans, programs, and projects. The second phase determined financial viability by contrasting the Annual Operational Plan, the municipal Annual Contracting Plan, and reference costs from the National Public Procurement Service. The third phase developed the technical and formal design component. The plan concluded with the geometric reconfiguration of road sections through flexible lanes and sidewalk widening under accessibility standards. Likewise, public space typologies were defined and applied to municipal properties and private land acquired through legal land management mechanisms, distributing occupancy percentages based on Nature-Based Solutions that guarantee the sustainability and autonomous conservation of the cantonal system.

The public space of Latin American historic centers simultaneously concentrates heritage value, everyday urban functions, and competing transit dynamics. Vicente León Park, in Latacunga, Ecuador, presents this condition acutely: institutionally recognized as the foundational void of the urban grid by the SIPCE and normatively enabled to receive equipment according to the PUGS-L2032, its current physical configuration favors transit over permanence, lacking infrastructure that encourages uses beyond passage. The research adopted a qualitative approach in four articulated phases: normative and theoretical review, morphological analysis through planimetric survey and spatial analysis in ArcMap, systematic observation with flow and behavioral records across nine time slots, and anteproject design based on diagnostic findings. Nine indicators were applied, grouped into two variables: morphological and sociospatial conditions of the park, and user patterns of use and permanence. The diagnosis confirmed the hypothesis: transversal pedestrian flows exceed permanence across all recorded sessions and time slots. The central zone concentrates the highest transit and the lowest dwell time. Permanence occurs at the edges where shade and furniture exist, with stays of five to fifteen minutes. The resulting proposal is a modular pavilion called La Pausa, implanted in an X formation over the park's dominant diagonals. Its modulation in 50 cm steps, with six heights between 0.50 m and 3.00 m, responds simultaneously to the language of the heritage context and to the INPC's reversibility requirements. Every design decision is traceable to a diagnostic finding.

Architectural rehabilitation comprises a set of interventions aimed at restoring the functional, physical, and structural conditions of a building, allowing it to be adapted to current needs. In the realm of public space, this process is especially relevant because these spaces foster community interaction, gatherings, and the development of recreational activities that contribute to the physical, social, and emotional well-being of the population. This research addresses the problems of the community and recreational center in Ciudadela La Paz, located in the Pelileo canton, Tungurahua province, which has suffered progressive physical and functional deterioration that has limited its use and diminished the residents' sense of belonging to this space. In response to this situation, an architectural rehabilitation proposal is presented, aimed at restoring its functionality and promoting its renewed appropriation by the community. The proposal includes the incorporation of sports areas, pedestrian walkways, playgrounds, and green spaces, with the purpose of strengthening recreational activities and improving the quality of the public space. The study employs a mixedmethods approach, integrating quantitative and qualitative techniques through direct field observation, interviews, and surveys administered to residents of the area. This methodology allows for the analysis of both the physical conditions of the space and the needs and perceptions of its users. Finally, the proposal is developed using graphic-conceptual representations and architectural representation resources, such as plans and other graphic media, which facilitate a comprehensive understanding of the proposed intervention.

The present research addresses the central problem of the study, located within the area defined for the development of the thesis, where urban and social conditions that have shaped the current state of the territory are identified. The analysis is constructed through a review of the context, the characterization of the site, and the description of the dynamics that influence the space. The study establishes a general objective aimed at understanding and describing the processes that occur in the analyzed sector, accompanied by specific objectives that allow the development of a diagnosis, the examination of the main components, and the formulation of a proposal based on the results obtained. The scope of the research covers the period defined for the study and is carried out within the delimited territorial area, considering the actors, users, and elements that take part in the dynamics of the place. The information generated corresponds to the analysis of the space and the conditions present in the environment. The methodological approach is structured under a qualitative design, supported by techniques such as observation, data collection, documentary research, normative analysis, and the use of spatial representation tools. The process incorporates exploratory and descriptive methods that allow the interpretation of relationships between the territory and the identified phenomena. The results reveal patterns, behaviors, and transformations present in the study area. It is identified that ramps exist in certain points of the sector, but their distribution does not cover all the spaces where they are required, generating discontinuities in pedestrian routes. In this context, curb cuts are recognized as elements that resolve level changes in sections where ramps are not implemented. Likewise, the presence of sustainable materials applied along the green corridor routes is recorded, which respond to environmental criteria related to space management. It is also observed that green corridors function as an alternative to articulate public-use areas, promote spatial continuity, and organize pedestrian movement within the analyzed area. The proposal is formulated based on the collected information and the analysis carried out, integrating guidelines, criteria, and strategies that correspond to the elements identified throughout the research process. The approach organizes the structure of the project and defines the essential components for its development within the study area. The conclusions present a synthesis of the research process, describe the most relevant aspects of the territory, and outline the relationship between the results and the generated proposal

The rehabilitation and restoration of public space is essential due to the need to improve urban quality and strengthen social cohesion in growing parishes. This research will develop a proposal based on the regeneration of Avenida 12 de Septiembre, as it has been found that this avenue is currently limited by vehicular traffic and a lack of pedestrian continuity. The need to develop an efficient and highquality commercial corridor motivates us to obtain tools and strategies for its construction. For the development of this research, a mixed-methods approach was used, integrating multi-scale analysis with cartographic tools, field studies, and urban assessment forms. Through this process, several structural problems were identified, including a reduction in pedestrian space, the presence of informal parking, which generates vehicular congestion, and the absence of a cohesive commercial network. Furthermore, a quantitative analysis allowed for the calculation of the percentages of surface area allocated to vehicles and pedestrians in the current situation and with the proposed redevelopment. Based on these results, a comprehensive plan was developed to reconfigure the road network, thus guiding the intervention towards a more balanced and safer territorial model. The urban proposal redefines the mobility hierarchy through a road reconfiguration that diverts traffic to alternative routes, thereby relieving the heavy vehicular load and transforming it into a quieter corridor. As a result, road widths are redistributed, creating continuous and efficient sidewalks, incorporating green spaces, trees, and street furniture, improving comfort and spatial clarity, which will strengthen pedestrian areas directly linked to local businesses. In conclusion, these interventions will develop a more active and accessible commercial axis, creating an orderly, attractive, and socially active urban corridor with improved mobility and economic viability.

In the Huachi Chico sector, within the city of Ambato, canton of Tungurahua province, a set of facilities has been established in the new urban centrality. Despite their proximity within the same block, these facilities remain disconnected from one another, resulting in underutilized spaces, residual areas, extensive urban edges, and a lack of integration among the nodes that compose the city’s fabric. This situation gives rise to the problem of disarticulation analyzed in the research. The methodology applied follows a qualitative approach with a nonexperimental design, based on a non-probabilistic convenience sample. It involved the development of semi-structured interviews, a 3D survey of the current state of the area, 2D representations of the existing conditions, and proposals for demolition and modifications to be carried out prior to the project’s development. The results are supported by processes of information triangulation, interviews, a conceptual framework, and a diagnosis of the site through cartographic analysis. In response to this reality, the research and project proposal focuses on the spatial reorganization of the current Huachi Chico stadium and the surrounding facilities, according to the scope of the proposal. Urban integration is achieved through the design of the Francisco Flor Urban Park, whose design criteria are grounded in researched concepts, references, and interviews, with a focus on accessibility and permanence in the space. In conclusion, the proposed articulation of the area capitalizes on the relative position of the study block and constitutes a contribution to strengthening the new centrality of the Ambato canton.
