This project develops an automated monitoring system for the milk packaging process at the company El Cortijo, with the purpose of improving the accuracy, traceability, and efficiency of the operation. In the current situation, the process relies heavily on manual recording, which generates errors in the counting of containers, increases rework, and limits the ability to supervise the process in real time. To solve this problem, a mechanism that uses industrial automation tools is proposed. It includes sensors, a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) touchscreen, and a physical scale model that replicates the real packaging process. The research begins with an in-depth examination of how the product is manufactured and what the production area requires. Then, a functional prototype is designed and assembled, capable of detecting the containers, keeping count, grouping them in sets of four, and operating two sealing machines in alternating turns, imitating the industrial operation but at a slower rate of four containers per minute. The tests confirmed that the mechanism works correctly, showing clear improvements in how the process is controlled and monitored, and demonstrating that the design can be transferred to the full-scale production line. The results indicate that the proposed method helps to improve the packaging process, makes better use of resources, and paves the way for integration with new Industry 4.0 technologies, making it a good option for updating the company’s operations.

The objective of this project is to enhance the safety of explorers in the mountainous areas of Mount Tungurahua through the implementation of a real-time localization system based on LoRaWAN and GPS NEO 6M. To address the needs of the explorers identified in the survey, an appropriate IoT architecture was developed, selecting the most efficient modules and electronic components. During field tests conducted on the North and South routes of the volcano, the system showed a success rate of 75% on the North route and 70% on the South route, demonstrating its effectiveness in challenging terrain. The system achieved 80% coverage in areas with constant signal and a margin of error of 6.42 meters, though in areas with dense vegetation and rocky formations, the margin of error increased to 7.37 meters, highlighting the need to improve coverage in these critical areas. Although the prototype uses an 8800mA battery, its autonomy was limited to 4 hours, which posed a challenge for longer expeditions. The implementation of retractable batteries extended the autonomy to 8 hours, though further optimization is needed for extended expeditions. The simulation of two repeaters on the North - Pondoa and South - Puela routes significantly improved signal quality, with the reception level (Rx) improving from -120.2 dBm to -75.6 dBm, ensuring reliable transmission in remote áreas

Currently, mobile phones have become an essential part of daily life, especially among students. However, their excessive use has raised significant concerns, for which few or no effective solutions have been provided to date. This study focuses on the control and monitoring of students to combat nomophobia and the problems associated with this condition. An applied research approach was conducted, utilizing surveys directed at representatives, students, and teachers from an educational institution. These surveys allowed for the collection of requirements from representatives and teachers for the development of two interconnected applications. Meanwhile, data on the causes of nomophobia were gathered from the students. Additionally, the research was complemented with documentary records to better determine the indicators of nomophobia. The project led to the development of two applications for Android devices. The first, named “Monitora,” is designed to enable representatives to control and monitor students. The second, “Guardian,” operates as a service that collects data related to mobile phone usage and complies with the instructions provided by “Monitora.” For the implementation, Kotlin was used as the programming language, Jetpack Compose for building the user interface, and Firebase Realtime Database as the data storage system. This eliminated the need for a traditional backend and enabled the use of a backend as a service (BaaS). Moreover, the agile Mobile-D methodology was adopted, facilitating development through periodic delivery of functionalities.

In the industrial sector, control, monitoring and data acquisition are fundamental for decision making and improving quality, safety and productive efficiency. This research project aims to design a control system for monitoring a prototype grain casing machine. It began with a bibliographic, research using the PRISMA, methodology to understand the functions, applicability and benefits of SCADA systems. Based on this research, the parameters for the control of the grain casing prototype were established. Subsequently, the mechanical, electrical and pneumatic systems were designed in each of their stages, applying information technologies and control systems. For automatic control, a Siemens S7-1200 PLC controller version 1212 AC/DC/RLY was used, considering the input and output variables, this being a timed automatic process in each of its stages. The design of the control system was carried out using Ignition software, a platform for the design of process control systems. The combination with communication protocols such as OPC UA and Modbus TCP formed a communication network between the computer, the PLC controller and the Arduino board database for reading the status and obtaining data from the process variables in time real. The performance tests, carried out with different temperatures in the vertical sealer (60 to 83 °C) and in the horizontal sealer (70 to 85 °C), defined a theoretical production capacity of the prototype of 270 units per hour, working at a 90% efficiency in the event of possible failures and delays in the launch of the prototype.
