(Universidad Técnica de Ambato. Facultad de Ingeniería Civil y Mecánica, Carrera de Ingeniería Civil., 2025-02) Vásconez Miranda, Thaís Nicole; Bayas Altamirano, Myrian Marisol
This study focuses on the evaluation of the road network in Zone 10 of the Augusto N. Martínez Parish, proposing a road maintenance plan aimed at improving infrastructure, safety, mobility, and the quality of life for residents, while fostering regional socioeconomic development. The rapid population growth and commercial activities in the area have heightened demands on the road network, exposing significant structural and functional deficiencies, such as crocodile cracking, longitudinal cracks, pavement wear, potholes, and block cracking. These issues impede traffic flow and pose safety risks for both pedestrians and drivers. Furthermore, the lack of detailed technical diagnostics and a structured maintenance plan has aggravated road deterioration and hindered community development. The research employs a three-phase technical methodology: first, georeferenced planimetric surveys of the roads using advanced RTK technology and specialized software; second, assessment of road defects and calculation of the Pavement Condition Index (PCI) to classify roads by damage severity and determine necessary maintenance types; and third, preparation of a detailed intervention plan and budget, adhering to current standards and analytical findings. Results reveal the presence of 24 roads, totaling 5628.50 meters in length, 58.33 percentage with flexible pavement and 41.67 percentage unpaved. Common defects include crocodile cracking and longitudinal cracks. The PCI assessment classified the roads as "Good," indicating the need for periodic maintenance to prevent further degradation. A reference budget for interventions on flexible pavements was developed, providing a robust technical foundation for road planning. This proposal addresses the current needs of the parish and offers a replicable framework for managing urban road networks in similar areas.

Currently, the roads in the sector under study show deterioration of the road infrastructure and lack of maintenance in the urban area, seeking to evaluate the current state of the roads as it impacts the mobility and quality of life of the inhabitants of the Pasa parish in the Ambato canton. In this project, georeferenced data collection was carried out using a global positioning system (GPS), complemented by a visual analysis of the road infrastructure failures. Technical sheets were used to collect the necessary information and determine the state of the roads using the pavement condition index (PCI) method, identifying the level of severity of the failures and evaluating the quality of the tread layer. The evaluation was carried out by visual inspection of the tread layer, using georeferencing techniques and the ASTM D6433-03 regulations, the Ecuadorian Road Standard and the article "Pathology of Articulated Pavements" as references to identify and categorize the irregularities. The Pavement Condition Index (PCI) was used to determine the condition of the roads and propose road maintenance strategies. The study hopes to improve the quality of life of the inhabitants and provide a database to the GAD Municipality of Ambato in collaboration with the Technical University of Ambato. The focus is on developing a road maintenance plan due to the lack of planning, by collecting data from zone 40. This analysis resulted in a set of failures in two types of pavements, flexible and articulated, presenting three types of severity, this was reflected in the database obtained with the record of the failures found. Additionally, a reference budget was prepared for each road, taking into consideration the necessary items for the maintenance and repair of roads, sidewalks and curbs within the study area.

This work focuses on developing a road maintenance plan, which has been developed due to a lack of planning in the city of Ambato, for which an updated data collection of zone 50 will be carried out. This project was developed through three phases, the first one was carried out through a topographic survey that allowed us to know the relief of the area, the second one in the same way we proceeded with an analysis of vehicular traffic for which we used the hours with more traffic, In addition, through the analysis of the PCI we proceeded to identify each type of failure that exists in each of the roads in the area, thus analyzing the state in which the asphalt layer is, then we proceeded to conduct a soil study of the road that has greater structural damage to know what type of subgrade it is in. As a third step, a referential budget managed by the GAD of Ambato was made, to provide maintenance to the roads in the area. As a result we obtained a topographic survey of the roads, sidewalks and curbs, in addition to the fact that the area has a series of faults that are categorized from bad to excellent severity, within the analyzed roads, through the traffic study a TPDA of 291 veh/day was determined and likewise a projected TPDA of 592 veh/day by the year 2044. Likewise, the soil study determined that the road has a sandy-loamy soil type and that its CBR is 16.82 percent, which according to the CBR table can be considered for a subbase soil with good to fair quality. The unit price analysis determined a budget of US$181,863.44, which will be used for the

(Universidad Técnica de Ambato. Facultad de Ingeniería Civil y Mecánica, Carrera de Ingeniería Civil., 2025-02) Bonilla Bravo, Alexis Rafael; Acosta Lozada, Rodrigo Iván
The present investigation focused on the evaluation of the state of the roads in the Ambatillo parish, located in Tungurahua, with the objective of identifying deficiencies and proposing solutions for their maintenance. The roads in this area are experiencing rapid deterioration due to adverse weather conditions, which makes it necessary to have an efficient methodology to carry out precise diagnoses and intervention proposals. For this, the Pavement Condition Index (PCI) was used as the main tool, complemented with image analysis, in order to optimize available resources and prolong the useful life of the road infrastructure, reducing costs and avoiding major problems in the future. The development of the thesis was carried out in three main phases. First, a topographic survey was carried out using high-precision technology to obtain accurate terrain data. Subsequently, information was collected and analyzed on the failures found in the 17 roads evaluated, which include flexible and cobblestone pavements. The failures were recorded, and the average PCI was calculated, obtaining the lowest value of 59, which indicates that some roads require urgent maintenance. Among the main failures identified were cracks and damaged paving stones, common problems in the area's infrastructure. Finally, detailed technical specifications and a budget were prepared to carry out the necessary repairs. The results obtained reflect the need for immediate intervention on certain roads in Ambatillo. It is recommended to carry out periodic evaluations to monitor the condition of the roads and apply preventive maintenance to avoid accelerated deterioration. Suggested solutions include sealing cracks and replacing damaged pavers. In addition, the importance of using high quality materials is emphasized, given the impact that climatic conditions have on road infrastructure. In conclusion, the need to implement a continuous maintenance plan is raised to guarantee the safety, durability and functionality of the roads in the Ambatillo parish, which would contribute to the well-being of the community and the reduction of costs in the long term.
