Facultad de Ingeniería Civil y Mecánica, Carrera de Ingeniería Civil., 2025-02) Bonilla Bravo, Alexis Rafael; Acosta Lozada, Rodrigo IvánThe present investigation focused on the evaluation of the state of the roads in the Ambatillo parish, located in Tungurahua, with the objective of identifying deficiencies and proposing solutions for their maintenance. The roads in this area are experiencing rapid deterioration due to adverse weather conditions, which makes it necessary to have an efficient methodology to carry out precise diagnoses and intervention proposals. For this, the Pavement Condition Index (PCI) was used as the main tool, complemented with image analysis, in order to optimize available resources and prolong the useful life of the road infrastructure, reducing costs and avoiding major problems in the future. The development of the thesis was carried out in three main phases. First, a topographic survey was carried out using high-precision technology to obtain accurate terrain data. Subsequently, information was collected and analyzed on the failures found in the 17 roads evaluated, which include flexible and cobblestone pavements. The failures were recorded, and the average PCI was calculated, obtaining the lowest value of 59, which indicates that some roads require urgent maintenance. Among the main failures identified were cracks and damaged paving stones, common problems in the area's infrastructure. Finally, detailed technical specifications and a budget were prepared to carry out the necessary repairs. The results obtained reflect the need for immediate intervention on certain roads in Ambatillo. It is recommended to carry out periodic evaluations to monitor the condition of the roads and apply preventive maintenance to avoid accelerated deterioration. Suggested solutions include sealing cracks and replacing damaged pavers. In addition, the importance of using high quality materials is emphasized, given the impact that climatic conditions have on road infrastructure. In conclusion, the need to implement a continuous maintenance plan is raised to guarantee the safety, durability and functionality of the roads in the Ambatillo parish, which would contribute to the well-being of the community and the reduction of costs in the long term. Facultad de Ingeniería Civil y Mecánica, Carrera de Ingeniería Civil, 2023-03) Leyton Veloz, Daniela Elizabeth; Acosta Lozada, Rodrigo IvánIn this project, the need for a road evaluation is presented in the urban roads of the Ambato canton, due to the fact that within the road infrastructure, many deteriorations have been evidenced within the surface layer, which causes discomfort to users. In the present project, the visual evaluation was first carried out in the urban area of the Ambato canton, with the purpose of being able to determine the condition of the pavement through a visual inspection in flexible, rigid and articulated pavements, in addition to taking a GPS point as georeferencing of the faults found. For this purpose, evaluation formats were prepared based on the ASTM D6433 standards, Ecuadorian Road Standard (NEVI-12), and the article in the C. H. Higuera Sandoval magazine, "Pathology of articulated pavements". The collection of information was continued based on the types of failures found, level of severity and their unit of measurement, on the other hand, the abscissa was considered according to the length of each of the roads. Regarding the roads with greater extension, the calculation of the pavement condition index was implemented. Having tabulated the information, the faults were placed on the map using the ArcGIS software, in addition to proceeding with an analysis of unit prices for maintenance or interventions required on the roads. At the end of the evaluation, a database will be delivered to the GAD Municipality of Ambato, which will use the information for the benefit of society as a contribution from the Technical University of Ambato. Facultad de Ingeniería Civil y Mecánica, Carrera de Ingeniería Civil, 2023-02) Cárdenas Silva, Jonathan Fabricio; Aldas Sánchez, Milton RodrigoThis project presents the need to conduct a study of the urban roads of the canton of Ambato located in the province of Tungurahua, since it is important to recognize that the road infrastructure of the city has had a progressive deterioration due to the growth of the vehicle fleet of the sector internally and externally. This is why the project provides a current study of the state of the road axis that includes AV. los Guaytambos, Club Tungurahua, las Azaleas, los Nísperos, las Magnolias, las Pomarrosas, los Mangostinos, Chamburos, las Aceitunas. The different types of failures of the flexible, rigid and articulated pavement were determined, together with technical data sheets that allowed obtaining field data for each of the road sections. In the case of the evaluation of Avenida los Guaytambos, it was carried out using the method of calculating the pavement condition index (PCI), which made it possible to evaluate the condition of the avenue through the study of specific sections. The geographic coordinates of each of the faults found on the different roads were collected using a high-precision RTK-10 GPS. At the end of the study, a database was prepared using the software containing the geographic coordinates of the 250 faults found within this area and also a referential budget for road repair. This project will be delivered to the GAD Municipal de Ambato to be executed for the benefit of all the inhabitants of the place. Facultad de Ingeniería Civil y Mecánica, Carrera de Ingeniería Civil, 2022-06) Caisaguano Chicaiza, Evelyn Gissela; Acosta Lozada, Rodrigo IvánThis experimental work is presented as a model for evaluating the road infrastructure of Av. Cotopaxi and Río Cutuchi in the province of Cotopaxi. This research began with a georeferenced study for the representation and location of the road under study. With a traffic study, a manual vehicle count was performed for seven uninterrupted days from 07H00 to 19H00 at 15 min intervals, where it turned out to be the collector type road with a future traffic of 11,473 veh/day. Soil studies were carried out using three pits for the evaluation of optimum moisture content, maximum dry density and, by means of the Proctor test, the liquid and plastic limits were determined. The CBR of each sample was also performed and the Benkelman beam was used to determine the deflections, the behavior of the pavement structure and the subgrade of the road, where type II and IV deflections were found. Through the Pavement Condition Index for flexible and articulated pavements, the road was divided into two sections and the condition of each lane was established. With respect to Cotopaxi Avenue, the left lane has a good quality pavement, unlike the right lane, which is in poor condition, and along Río Cutuchi Avenue, the material used is cobblestone in both lanes, which is in fair condition. Facultad de Ingeniería Civil y Mecánica, Carrera de Ingeniería Civil, 2021-09) Tirado Tulcan, Galy Galiano; Aldás Sánchez, Milton RodrigoThe degree work is an evaluation model for roads in the urban area of the city of Latacunga, by means of a visual inspection for pavements, transversal elements and signaling. Flexible pavements were evaluated using visual inspection manuals proposed by the National Roads Institute INVIAS, where the pathologies present in the roads were collected according to their type, degree of severity and extension in stretches of about one hundred meters. For articulated pavements, an inventory of damages and the calculation of the pavement condition index were carried out. For flexible pavements, the possible interventions to be carried out were established based on what was proposed by the MTOP regulations in relation to the type and severity of the failures obtained in the visual inspection. Likewise, solutions were established according to the type and severity for each failure in the articulated pavements. Cross section diagrams were made for each road evaluated, by taking data in the field for subsequent analysis and verification of distances established by AASHTO, referring to the type of road and zone. The vertical and horizontal signs were evaluated visually to define their condition, in addition to the data collection of the design dimensions and location on the road for verification with the provisions of the INEN 2015 regulations. Keywords: Roads, evaluation, signaling, pavements.
