Inteligencia emocional y dependencia emocional en estudiantes universitarios
(Universidad Técnica de Ambato/ Facultad de Ciencias de Salud /Carrera de Psicología Clínica, 2023-09-18) Villena Barrera, Johana Lizbeth; Vargas Espín, Alba del Pilar
Emotional intelligence is the ability and capacity to control thoughts, feelings and emotions; while emotional dependence comprises cognitive, emotional, motivational and behavioral aspects focused on the other person for personal satisfaction. The interest in these variables, which are part of the important dimensions of the human being, led to this study, whose objective was to determine the relationship between emotional intelligence and emotional dependence in university students; by means of a non - experimental, cross-sectional, quantitative, descriptive-correlational design. It had a sample of 827 university students over 18 years of age, chosen through inclusion and exclusion criteria. The Trait Meta-Mood Scale (TMMS-24) test was applied to evaluate emotional intelligence and the Emotional Dependence Questionnaire (CDE). The results showed that there is a slight positive relationship between the attention dimension of emotional intelligence and emotional dependence (Rho= 0.338 p <0.05), a slight negative relationship between clarity and emotional dependence (Rho= -0.103 p <0.05) and a slight negative relationship between repair and emotional dependence (Rho= -0.106 p <0.05). It is concluded that the greater the emotional attention, the greater the emotional dependence, while the less emotional clarity and repair, the greater the emotional dependence.

Emotional intelligence is an individual skill essential for optimal functioning that involves recognizing others' and one's own emotions, motivating oneself, and forming social relationships. The psychological characteristics of the scales used to measure emotional intelligence have rarely been analyzed in Latin American cultures, as in the case of the TEIQue-SF. The main objective is to determine the psychometric properties of the Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire (short version) (TEIQue-SF) in university students. Individuals were selected from a non-probabilistic convenience sampling, obtaining a sample of 504 participants from a university in the city of Ambato-Ecuador. The results indicate a high reliability index for the factors (Cronbach's alpha between .71 and .91), the original structure could not be verified in the confirmatory factor analysis and finally it was found that there were no statistically significant differences in EI between the mean scores of men (M=130) and women (M=129).
