Item Análisis semiótico de la indumentaria matrimonial del pueblo Salasaca(UNIVERSIDAD TÉCNICA DE AMBATO; FACULTAD DE DISEÑO Y ARQUITECTURA CARRERA DE DISEÑO TEXTIL E INDUMENTARIA, 2026-07-06) López Reinoso Anahi Pamela; Solís Sánchez Sandra Jacqueline; UNIVERSIDAD TÉCNICA DE AMBATO; FACULTAD DE DISEÑO Y ARQUITECTURA CARRERA DE DISEÑO TEXTIL E INDUMENTARIAIndigenous ceremonial dress constitutes a system of non-verbal visual communication that encodes identity, worldview, and collective memory. The Salasaca people, settled in the Pelileo canton, province of Tungurahua, Ecuador, preserve a matrimonial attire with a profound symbolic load that has been scarcely documented from a semiotic perspective, creating an academic gap that directly threatens the intergenerational transmission of cultural knowledge associated with these practices. The objective of the research that has been carried out revolves around conducting a semiotic analysis of the wedding dress or matrimonial attire of the Salasaca people, using the method of Roland Barthes for this purpose, as one of the ways to help preserve Andean intangible cultural heritage. For the study of this cultural object, a mixed approach of a qualitative descriptive-exploratory type justified by the inductive method has been used. The fieldwork consisted of the use of twelve semi-structured interviews with people from this community, one interview with a researcher specialized in Salasaca iconography, interviews with four craftswomen, three community leaders, and semiotic photographic observation sheets; in addition, an ethnographic photographic archive of the dress in the context of the ritual was built. The triangulation between the bibliographic review, the fieldwork, and the iconographic analysis served to guarantee the validity of the results. The Barthesian denotative, connotative, and mythical levels have been identified and systematized in eight garments and accessories of the wedding attire: the outer black bayeta, the blouse embroidered with a peacock, the mamachumbi, the black anaco, the white fachalina with tassels, the red fachalina, the multicolored ribbons of the cuichi, and the walcas. It is concluded that the matrimonial attire of the Salasaca people functions as a tripartite symbolic language that articulates body, territory, and collective memory, and whose semiotic systematization constitutes an active contribution to the preservation of Andean intangible cultural heritage.Item Experimentación de un Biotextil no Tejido a partir de la Fibra de Coco para la Intervención en la Indumentaria(UNIVERSIDAD TÉCNICA DE AMBATO; FACULTAD DE DISEÑO Y ARQUITECTURA; CARRERA DISEÑO TEXTIL E INDUMENTARIA, 2026-01-21) Sillagana Calero Marcia Pamela; Varela Gallegos Sandra Catalina; UNIVERSIDAD TÉCNICA DE AMBATO; FACULTAD DE DISEÑO Y ARQUITECTURA; CARRERA DISEÑO TEXTIL E INDUMENTARIAThis research focuses on the experimentation and analysis of a non-woven biotextile made from coconut fiber, aiming to explore its potential application in the apparel industry. Coconut fiber, an abundant and sustainable agricultural byproduct, represents an ecological alternative to conventional textile materials, contributing to environmental impact reduction and promoting circular economy practices. To achieve this objective, an extensive literature review was conducted on the physical, chemical, and mechanical properties of coconut fiber and its capacity to be transformed into biotextile. Additionally, qualitative interviews with experts in biotextiles and environmental sustainability were carried out to gather insights on innovation and feasibility of using this fiber in sustainable fashion. Experimental results demonstrate that the non-woven coconut fiber biotextile possesses favorable properties such as strength, durability, and biodegradability, although it shows limitations in flexibility and softness, which can be improved through specific treatments or blending with other natural fibers. Opportunities were identified for its application in garments, accessories, and footwear, especially in market segments valuing sustainability and innovative design. Finally, recommendations are proposed for the technical, economic, and environmental implementation of coconut fiber-based biotextiles in the textile industry, emphasizing the need to optimize processes, promote training, and foster partnerships with producer communities to ensure sustainable and competitive development.Item Análisis de la indumentaria de las mujeres danzantes del Inti Raymi del pueblo Kayambi. The study examines the aesthetic and symbolic elements of this ceremonial clothing, as well as the social and historical dynamics that have influenced its evolution. The research is developed under a qualitative approach that integrates ethnographic design and the inductive method, allowing the attire to be analyzed from a broad and contextualized perspective. The methodological process incorporated various data collection techniques, including a bibliographic documentary review, semi-structured interviews with women dancers, historians, and community leaders, as well as photographic analysis sheets corresponding to the years 2020 and 2025 in the communities of Cochapamba and Pucará. The results show that the attire of the women dancers constitutes a central element of cultural identity. Over time, changes have been recorded in materials, colors, and manufacturing techniques, driven by processes of cultural adaptation, resource availability, and contemporary influences; however, the symbolic meanings associated with each element persist. The comparative analysis between both communities reveals significant aesthetic differences: in Cochapamba, more sober colors, less complex embroidery, and the predominant use of the white shawl are observed. The skirt pleats are finer, giving the attire a simpler and more traditional character. In contrast, in Pucará, vibrant colors such as orange, yellow, and green stand out, accompanied by larger and more striking embroidery. The skirt pleats are wider, and the shawls are larger, creating a more dynamic and ornamented festive aesthetic. The transformations recorded between 2020 and 2025 in both communities are mainly related to textile types and sewing techniques. In the past, heavier materials such complexity, mostly produced by machine. A progressive incorporation of new decorative elements, such as ribbons, lace, beads, and shiny appliqués, is also evident. This study not only contributes to the academic field of apparel design and cultural research but also supports the safeguarding of intangible heritage by offering a clear and documented understanding of the cultural relevance of festive clothing. This analysis becomes a tool that strengthens future research and preservation projects aimed at protecting textile identity within the community. as wool and cloth were used, and the embroidery was simple and handcrafted. Currently, lighter textiles especially polyester predominate, and the embroidery shows greaterItem Diseño de una colección de sastrería femenina a partir de la incorporación de la expresión urbana grafiti dirigido para la Empresa Ali’s Store(UNIVERSIDAD TÉCNICA DE AMBATO FACULTAD DE DISEÑO Y ARQUITECTURA CARRERA DE DISEÑO TEXTIL E INDUMENTARIA, 2025-07-29) Caisaguano Guanoluisa Sandy Gissela; Guamán Llamuca Carlos Alberto; UNIVERSIDAD TÉCNICA DE AMBATO FACULTAD DE DISEÑO Y ARQUITECTURA CARRERA DE DISEÑO TEXTIL E INDUMENTARIAThis project addresses a challenge related to the limited availability of contemporary women's tailoring in the city of Ambato, where most offerings remain rooted in traditional approaches that fail to meet the tastes and lifestyles of modern urban women. As a response, this work proposes a women’s tailoring collection for the company Ali’s Store, grounded in the fusion of classical tailoring techniques and the visual incorporation of urban graffiti as a means of cultural and artistic identity expression. The proposal is supported by both theoretical and field research, including the analysis of international fashion references such as Moschino, Stella McCartney, and Varun Bahl, as well as interviews and focus groups with women aged 20 to 25, the brand’s target audience. Key graffiti artworks from downtown Ambato were also identified for their application as graphic elements in the designs. This research allowed for the development of a creative and culturally relevant approach to the collection. The outcome is a capsule collection of contemporary women’s tailoring, featuring garments such as blazers, trousers, shirts, vests, and skirts, enhanced with textile techniques like embroidery, sublimation, and spray painting. These pieces are inspired by the visual elements of graffiti—color, typography, and patterns—while maintaining the elegance and precision of traditional tailoring. In conclusion, this project contributes to the modernization of women’s tailoring in Ambato, offering an innovative, personalized, and culturally grounded proposal that enables Ali’s Store to expand its product range and connect with a younger audience seeking clothing that reflects identity and artistic valueItem Análisis del artefacto vestimentario chumbi de la cultura Panzaleo(UNIVERSIDAD TÉCNICA DE AMBATO FACULTAD DE DISEÑO Y ARQUITECTURA CARRERA DE DISEÑO TEXTIL E INDUMENTARIA, 2025-07-29) Taco Tenorio Olga Juliana; Sánchez López Andrea Sofía; UNIVERSIDAD TÉCNICA DE AMBATO FACULTAD DE DISEÑO Y ARQUITECTURA CARRERA DE DISEÑO TEXTIL E INDUMENTARIAThis research analyzes the Panzaleo people's chumbi clothing artifact from a cultural identity and design perspective, seeking to interpret its symbolic, communicative, and functional value. The main objective is to create a line of objects such as wall hangings, cushions, table runners and placemats that combine modern design with an artisanal and handmade touch. Although macramé is an important technique within the project, the main focus is on textile design: thinking about the materials, colors, shapes and functions of each piece so that it looks good in the spaces of the home and also has a utility. What is sought is that these products not only serve as decoration, but also convey emotions and reflect a warmer, natural and personal style. The work process included researching the topic, seeing what products exist in the market, surveying potential users to find out their tastes, and finally designing and manufacturing the products. We also worked on the technical specifications and costs, thinking that this line of products could be marketed. The general idea is to show how a traditional technique such as macramé can be rescued and applied to current textile design, generating pieces that look good, have quality and tell a story. With this, we want to give more value to manual work and offer decorative alternatives with identity.Item Diseño de una colección de indumentaria casual wear con la incorporación de la técnica hapa zome para la empresa PISCIS(UNIVERSIDAD TÉCNICA DE AMBATO FACULTAD DE DISEÑO Y ARQUITECTURA CARRERA DE DISEÑO TEXTIL E INDUMENTARIA, 2025-07-29) Cisneros Villacrés Sandra Daniela; Solís Sánchez Sandra Jacqueline; UNIVERSIDAD TÉCNICA DE AMBATO FACULTAD DE DISEÑO Y ARQUITECTURA CARRERA DE DISEÑO TEXTIL E INDUMENTARIAThis thesis addresses the environmental challenge in the textile industry by incorporating the hapa zome technique in the design of a casual wear collection for the company PISCIS. The research builds upon an analysis of existing scholarly sources and experimental trials to identify the optimal technical parameters for the transfer of natural pigments from endemic flora to sustainable textiles, such as linen and cotton, eliminating the dependence on synthetic dyes and reducing the environmental impact. The methodology combined technical experimentation by adjusting mordanting and post-treatment protocols with market research, including focus groups and expert interviews, which revealed a preference for designs with earthy colour palettes, relaxed silhouettes and minimalist detailing. These findings were integrated into the nine design domains, which allowed the definition of clear and consistent criteria for the implementation of the proposal, aligned with the ARTIA trend. The process culminated in the creation of a casual wear collection that coherently integrates the hapa zome technique and responds to the demands of a young and conscious market. The final proposal demonstrates the technical and aesthetic viability of the method, offering a replicable model for the adoption of ecological practices in textile design, and consolidating itself as an innovative and sustainable alternative in the current competitive environment.Item Diseño de una colección de indumentaria en denim a partir de la interpretación del bordado de la vestimenta festiva salasaka para la empresa ALRAM(UNIVERSIDAD TÉCNICA DE AMBATO FACULTAD DE DISEÑO Y ARQUITECTURA DISEÑO Y ARQUITECTURA CARRERA DE DISEÑO TEXTIL E INDUMENTARIA, 2025-07-29) Villegas Mayorga Edgar Joel; Medina Robalino Aylen Karina; UNIVERSIDAD TÉCNICA DE AMBATO FACULTAD DE DISEÑO Y ARQUITECTURA DISEÑO Y ARQUITECTURA CARRERA DE DISEÑO TEXTIL E INDUMENTARIAThis research presents the design of a denim clothing collection for the company ALRAM, based on the interpretation of embroidery from the festive garments of the Salasaka community, located in Tungurahua Province, Ecuador. The project responds to the need to revalue artisanal techniques that are being displaced by industrial textile processes. The proposal aims to establish a dialogue between tradition and modernity, integrating Salasaka hand embroidery into an urban fashion collection targeted at both male and female audiences. The project followed a design-based methodology, covering stages such as contextual and formal research, technical analysis of traditional and contemporary embroidery, and direct fieldwork observation. Artisanal practices were documented, including processes, materials, and techniques employed by local artisans. This analysis allowed for evaluating the adaptability of embroidery to denim fabrics, considering aspects such as texture, durability, symbolic expression, and visual harmony between the material and the artisanal technique. The outcome is a six-outfit collection featuring upper and lower garments, created using various denim compositions and weights. The collection demonstrates the feasibility of incorporating Salasaka embroidery into industrially produced urban garments while maintaining its cultural and symbolic integrity. In doing so, it reinforces the connection between contemporary fashion design and Andean textile heritage, offering a renewed framework for the valorization of traditional craft techniques.Item Diseño de una colección de indumentaria urbana con la aplicación de acolchado a partir de materiales alternativos para la Empresa Redskins(UNIVERSIDAD TÉCNICA DE AMBATO FACULTAD DE DISEÑO Y ARQUITECTURA CARRERA DE DISEÑO TEXTIL E INDUMENTARIA, 2025-07-29) Barreto Ruiz Dayana Nathaly; Garcés Torres Ana Carolina; UNIVERSIDAD TÉCNICA DE AMBATO FACULTAD DE DISEÑO Y ARQUITECTURA CARRERA DE DISEÑO TEXTIL E INDUMENTARIAThe purpose of this thesis project is to design a quilted urban apparel collection using alternative materials with a sustainable approach. The initiative arises in response to the lack of textile proposals that consider the emotional component in children's fashion design, while offering a creative alternative for children to actively participate in the symbolic construction of their identity. Based on the analysis of previous studies, it is established that free drawing, graphic symbols, and visual elements used by children carry deep meanings related to their emotional world. These findings have allowed the construction of a conceptual framework that supports the integration of these representations into fashion design, showing how emotions can be visually translated into garments that are functional, expressive, and coherent with the user. The proposed methodology is based on participatory approaches that consider the child as an active subject in the creative process. Through dynamics focused on the graphic representation of emotions, illustrations are collected and incorporated into clothing designs using appropriate textile techniques. In this way, the symbolic nature of clothing as a vehicle for emotional expression is reinforced, promoting a design with identity.
