Description

The present research entitled “Attention and Linguistic Processes of Reading” aimed to determine the relationship between attention and linguistic reading processes in fifth, sixth, and seventh grade students of Basic General Education at Unidad Educativa Jerusalén. The study was conducted under a mixed-method approach with a predominantly quantitative focus, at descriptive and correlational levels, through a bibliographic-documentary and field research modality. The sample consisted of 50 students. To assess the attention variable, the Perception of Differences Test (Faces Test) was applied, which allowed the evaluation of attention level and impulsivity control. For the linguistic reading processes variable, the Reading and Writing Test (PLLE) was used, specifically considering the Reading Vocabulary (VL) and Paragraph Reading (LP) subtests. The results were analyzed using Spearman's rho coefficient. The findings showed a positive relationship between attention and the linguistic processes of reading. It was concluded that students with higher levels of attention and self-regulation demonstrated better reading performance.
