Determinación de la duración del ciclo de cultivo de remolacha (Beta vulgaris L.) VAR. Boro

Abstract

The present investigation was carried out with the purpose of determining the cultivation cycle of beetroot (B. vulgaris L.) var. Boro, for which it was carried out in the parish Montalvo, Barrio San Francisco, belonging to the canton Ambato province of Tungurahua whose geographical coordinates are 01° 19'52,0" South Latitude and 78° 37' 14,5" West Longitude, with an altitude of 2 720 meters above sea level, it should be emphasized that an experimental, descriptive and bibliographic investigation was carried out, so it does not present treatment or hypothesis. In accordance with the parameters established by the FAO, the data were taken quantitatively and qualitatively, so the days of duration of each phenological stage were counted. Improving the technical management of the beet crop, thus providing information on each phenological stage, Kc, root depth and plant height. The results showed that the beet cultivation cycle was 115 days, determining that the initial stage was 21 days. The development stage of the beet crop is characterised by its extensive vegetative growth, which increases the concentration of sugars, as well as dry matter in its main root. In addition, its leaves turn yellowish in colour, which decreases the proportionality between the aerial part of the plant and its root, which represents the end of vegetative growth, so that the beet is accumulating cold hours. Its commercial maturity lasted 94 days, when harvesting took place. For the crop coefficient (Kc) in the initial stage a value of 0.35 Kc was obtained and for the commercial maturity stage a value of 1.20 was recorded.
