    This integrative project addresses the problem of low content retention and demotivation experienced by elementary school students at the Iberoamérica Educational Unit. The Iberoamérica institution is dedicated to student learning, providing materials and resources that foster knowledge. However, a lack of support in didactic materials for social studies topics, particularly history and writing, is evident. Therefore, the development of educational graphic materials helps reinforce or complement the information taught in class practically and actively, as these are the future generations. The research diagnosed that this challenge stems from a reliance on passive and rote learning methodologies and the limited use of didactic graphic resources that promote active participation. The design was based on the need for maximum legibility and a semi-realistic illustration style for easy identification of historical figures. It emphasizes a friendly, functional, and highly motivating communicative tone, helping to foster a curiosity for learning. It proves to be an interactive and practical material, capable of activating kinesthetic learning. It is concluded that pedagogical and design criteria play an important role, as they are essential tools for translating complex content into interactive and practical learning.

    The present research addresses the central problem of the study, located within the area defined for the development of the thesis, where urban and social conditions that have shaped the current state of the territory are identified. The analysis is constructed through a review of the context, the characterization of the site, and the description of the dynamics that influence the space. The study establishes a general objective aimed at understanding and describing the processes that occur in the analyzed sector, accompanied by specific objectives that allow the development of a diagnosis, the examination of the main components, and the formulation of a proposal based on the results obtained. The scope of the research covers the period defined for the study and is carried out within the delimited territorial area, considering the actors, users, and elements that take part in the dynamics of the place. The information generated corresponds to the analysis of the space and the conditions present in the environment. The methodological approach is structured under a qualitative design, supported by techniques such as observation, data collection, documentary research, normative analysis, and the use of spatial representation tools. The process incorporates exploratory and descriptive methods that allow the interpretation of relationships between the territory and the identified phenomena. The results reveal patterns, behaviors, and transformations present in the study area. It is identified that ramps exist in certain points of the sector, but their distribution does not cover all the spaces where they are required, generating discontinuities in pedestrian routes. In this context, curb cuts are recognized as elements that resolve level changes in sections where ramps are not implemented. Likewise, the presence of sustainable materials applied along the green corridor routes is recorded, which respond to environmental criteria related to space management. It is also observed that green corridors function as an alternative to articulate public-use areas, promote spatial continuity, and organize pedestrian movement within the analyzed area. The proposal is formulated based on the collected information and the analysis carried out, integrating guidelines, criteria, and strategies that correspond to the elements identified throughout the research process. The approach organizes the structure of the project and defines the essential components for its development within the study area. The conclusions present a synthesis of the research process, describe the most relevant aspects of the territory, and outline the relationship between the results and the generated proposal

    This graduation project focuses on the need to improve care conditions for people with disabilities in rural areas of Ecuador, due to persistent gaps in accessibility, infrastructure, and the availability of specialised services. In the parish of Huambaló, these limitations restrict rehabilitation processes, autonomy, and social inclusion, highlighting the importance of developing facilities that comply with universal accessibility standards and promote overall well-being. The methodology was structured according to Raffaelli’s project-based approach, combining documentary review, regulatory analysis, and interviews with experts in architecture directed towards health and well-being, together with a technical survey of the site and a functional analysis of the San José de Huambaló Foundation for People with Disabilities. This methodological integration made it possible to understand the real needs of the users and to establish coherent design criteria for creating spaces for people with disabilities. The study is framed within the research line of inclusive architecture and therapeutic design, aimed at generating spaces that promote sensory well-being, functional autonomy, and connection with the natural environment. As its main contribution, the research proposes the design of a Therapeutic Ambulatory Centre that incorporates principles of universal accessibility, an interdisciplinary approach, and strategies for interacting with the environment to strengthen therapeutic processes.

    Diseño de un eje comercial con prioridad peatonal en la cabecera urbana de la parroquia Atahualpa

    The rehabilitation and restoration of public space is essential due to the need to improve urban quality and strengthen social cohesion in growing parishes. This research will develop a proposal based on the regeneration of Avenida 12 de Septiembre, as it has been found that this avenue is currently limited by vehicular traffic and a lack of pedestrian continuity. The need to develop an efficient and highquality commercial corridor motivates us to obtain tools and strategies for its construction. For the development of this research, a mixed-methods approach was used, integrating multi-scale analysis with cartographic tools, field studies, and urban assessment forms. Through this process, several structural problems were identified, including a reduction in pedestrian space, the presence of informal parking, which generates vehicular congestion, and the absence of a cohesive commercial network. Furthermore, a quantitative analysis allowed for the calculation of the percentages of surface area allocated to vehicles and pedestrians in the current situation and with the proposed redevelopment. Based on these results, a comprehensive plan was developed to reconfigure the road network, thus guiding the intervention towards a more balanced and safer territorial model. The urban proposal redefines the mobility hierarchy through a road reconfiguration that diverts traffic to alternative routes, thereby relieving the heavy vehicular load and transforming it into a quieter corridor. As a result, road widths are redistributed, creating continuous and efficient sidewalks, incorporating green spaces, trees, and street furniture, improving comfort and spatial clarity, which will strengthen pedestrian areas directly linked to local businesses. In conclusion, these interventions will develop a more active and accessible commercial axis, creating an orderly, attractive, and socially active urban corridor with improved mobility and economic viability.

    Diseño de un espacio público articulador en el entorno del estadio de Huachi Chico, en el cantón Ambato

    In the Huachi Chico sector, within the city of Ambato, canton of Tungurahua province, a set of facilities has been established in the new urban centrality. Despite their proximity within the same block, these facilities remain disconnected from one another, resulting in underutilized spaces, residual areas, extensive urban edges, and a lack of integration among the nodes that compose the city’s fabric. This situation gives rise to the problem of disarticulation analyzed in the research. The methodology applied follows a qualitative approach with a nonexperimental design, based on a non-probabilistic convenience sample. It involved the development of semi-structured interviews, a 3D survey of the current state of the area, 2D representations of the existing conditions, and proposals for demolition and modifications to be carried out prior to the project’s development. The results are supported by processes of information triangulation, interviews, a conceptual framework, and a diagnosis of the site through cartographic analysis. In response to this reality, the research and project proposal focuses on the spatial reorganization of the current Huachi Chico stadium and the surrounding facilities, according to the scope of the proposal. Urban integration is achieved through the design of the Francisco Flor Urban Park, whose design criteria are grounded in researched concepts, references, and interviews, with a focus on accessibility and permanence in the space. In conclusion, the proposed articulation of the area capitalizes on the relative position of the study block and constitutes a contribution to strengthening the new centrality of the Ambato canton.

    Propuesta de anteproyecto arquitectónico para los bloques de educación básica elemental de la Unidad Educativa Luis A. Martínez

    This research presents a preliminary architectural design proposal for the elementary school buildings of the Luis A. Martínez High School, located in the city of Ambato. The project arises from the need to renovate learning environments that no longer respond to contemporary pedagogical approaches or to the sensory and developmental needs of children. The study is grounded in the principles of sensory architecture, which understand space as an active component in learning one that influences concentration, emotional balance, social interaction, and overall student well-being. The project is motivated by several deficiencies observed in the existing infrastructure: insufficient natural ventilation, limited spatial adaptability, inadequate lighting, and a weak relationship between indoor and outdoor learning areas. To address these issues, the proposal incorporates bimodal classrooms that can be connected through movable acoustic panels, a creative laboratory for hands-on exploration, an edible garden functioning as a living learning environment, and green sensory zones that complement academic activities. Additionally, the design includes a new circulation corridor that links the blocks and improves the flow of students, along with a color-based signage system that enhances orientation and promotes autonomy. Methodologically, the study adopts a qualitative approach, combining field observation, semi-structured interviews, regulatory analysis, and a review of architectural precedents relevant to educational settings. These tools made it possible to understand the real needs of the school community and to define strategies aligned with current educational practices. The resulting proposal envisions a flexible, healthy, and nature-integrated educational environment that enhances daily experiences for both students and teachers.

    Análisis del proceso actual de expansión urbana en el eje CELEC UNIANDES: caso de estudio en la parroquia de Totoras, cantón Ambato

    This research project analyzes the current process of urban expansion along the CELEC-UNIANDES axis in the parish of Totoras, Ambato canton. This historically agricultural area has undergone rapid spatial transformation in recent years, driven by large urban projects (GPU) such as the CELEC EP electrical substation, the UNIANDES university, the E30 state highway, and the INECEL urban development. The research is justified by the need to understand how these projects are reshaping land use, inducing urbanization processes in the surrounding parishes, and highlighting the gaps between official planning and actual territorial dynamics. The methodology used corresponds to a qualitative approach based on the interpretive-constructivist paradigm. Documentary and regulatory analyses, multitemporal cartographic reviews (2014, 2019, and 2025), direct field observations, and semi-structured interviews with key institutional and community actors were conducted. This triangulation allowed for the identification of settlement patterns, changes in land use, and local perceptions of the expansion process. The results show that the CELEC-UNIANDES axis is the most important growth corridor in Totoras, with a progressive loss of agricultural land, the emergence of mixed uses, the formation of an emerging urban center, and a fragmented urbanization pattern

    This thesis develops the architectural proposal for an Active Recreation Center for Older Adults in the canton of Cevallos, based on a comprehensive methodological process that incorporates theoretical, legal, and historical frameworks as key foundations for the project. The study addresses the increasing demographic aging and the lack of inclusive recreational infrastructure, identifying the need for spaces that promote autonomy, social participation, and intergenerational coexistence. Through a qualitative methodological approach, the research integrates documentary review, territorial analysis, case study evaluation, semi-structured interviews, and thematic analysis. These techniques enable a deep understanding of the physical, social, and cultural dynamics surrounding the older adult population, as well as the identification of functional, morphological, and contextual needs relevant to the design of specialized recreational spaces. The proposal is supported by the paradigm of community architecture, which prioritizes human scale, spatial coherence, and social integration within the built environment. Based on this framework, the study establishes architectural strategies that address composition, functionality, contextual integration, and environmental sustainability, resulting in a coherent architectural parti aligned with local territorial conditions and the needs of the older population. The outcome is a preliminary architectural design that organizes zones for recreation, learning, productive activities, and community encounter, articulated through accessible circulations and bioclimatic strategies. The project becomes a replicable model for small and medium-sized cantons seeking to strengthen the quality of life of older adults through inclusive, culturally rooted, and socially cohesive architectural interventions.

    Diseño arquitectónico de equipamiento recreativo en el estadio de Huachi La Joya

    The present work aimed to design a recreational facility in the Huachi La Joya Stadium by applying bioclimatic design criteria. The project is based on the need to recover a public space which, despite its community value, shows physical deterioration, lack of planning, and a loss of its integrative function within the neighborhood. The study seeks to strengthen social cohesion, environmental sustainability, and urban quality through the use of bioclimatic architectural principles. The research is justified by the deficit of adequate recreational areas in the sector and by the urgency to revalue a space with great potential for community development. The environmental analysis reveals limitations in accessibility, green areas, and urban furniture, as well as the need to consolidate a multifunctional facility. Methodologically, the study adopts a qualitative interpretative approach with an exploratory descriptive level. Techniques such as direct observation, documentary analysis of urban planning instruments, specialized bibliographic review, and the study of architectural precedents with similar characteristics were applied. The results show that the stadium lacks functional infrastructure, presents significant deterioration, and does not meet accessibility or environmental comfort standards, which affects community interaction and the appropriation of the space. The architectural proposal presents a bioclimatic recreational facility that integrates sports areas, green spaces, meeting zones, and environmental comfort elements, using strategies such as solar orientation, natural ventilation, and landscape design. The intervention aims to revitalize the environment, improve habitability, and strengthen the social fabric through a sustainable, accessible, and functional public space.

    Análisis del patrón de crecimiento urbano de la cabecera cantonal de Pallatanga durante el periodo 2010-2020

    This research examines the urban growth pattern of the cantonal seat of Pallatanga during the period 2010–2020. The methodological approach follows a constructivist paradigm with a qualitative orientation and a descriptive-explanatory design, grounded in the socio-spatial interpretation of urban processes and the integration of cartographic and documentary analysis. Data collection incorporated techniques such as the review of planning instruments, normative analysis, direct field observation, semi-structured interviews with institutional and community actors, and the development of a cartographic database derived from 2010 and 2020 orthophotos processed through Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Sampling was defined intentionally, emphasizing urban sectors where morphological transformations associated with expansion, parcel fragmentation, and building consolidation were identified. Pallatanga exhibits urban dynamics characteristic of small Andean settlements, where territorial expansion occurs through the gradual incorporation of agricultural and forest soils into the urban perimeter, the occupation of areas with biophysical restrictions, and the consolidation of settlements along existing road corridors. Topographic conditions, the availability of moderate-slope land, parcel fragmentation practices driven by absentee landowners, and the demand for low-cost plots guide the urban structure toward an extensive, low-density model. The municipality’s limited management capacity, together with flexible regulatory frameworks that prioritize ex post regularization of settlements, reinforces these territorial tendencies. The study integrates morphological GIS analysis with information from interviews and institutional documents, allowing the identification of a close relationship between the evolution of the urban structure and prevailing socio-spatial processes. These include the progressive reduction of plot sizes, the expansion of the urban surface without a proportional increase in population density, the occupation of zones with susceptibility to mass-movement hazards, the encroachment into hydrological protection buffers, and the spatial dispersion of urban facilities in relation to recent growth patterns. These findings indicate a fragmented expansion dynamic influenced by land-market pressures, delayed regulatory action, and gradual provision of basic infrastructure. Urban expansion observed between 2010 and 2020 is directly related to parcel fragmentation and the incorporation of previously subdivided areas into the urban boundary, factors that contribute to dispersed urban fabric, increased urbanized area, and a weakened relationship between planning instruments and the actual occupation of land. This territorial behavior presents challenges for public management, risk mitigation, provision of basic services, and land-use regulation, highlighting the need to strengthen planning tools capable of anticipating spatial transformations and guiding growth in accordance with the canton's biophysical characteristics.
