Item Criminalidad urbana y el delito del hurto en los espacios públicos: estudio del delito de hurto calificado en el centro de Ambato(Universidad Técnica de Ambato, Facultad de Jurisprudencia y Ciencias Sociales, Carrera de Derecho, 2026-07-09) Sánchez Romo, Roberto Andrés; Acosta Morales, Gabriela MaríaThe purpose of this research was to analyze urban criminality and the crime of theft in public spaces, taking as a case study aggravated theft in downtown Ambato. The importance of the topic lies in the increase of property crimes in highly crowded urban areas, a situation that has generated insecurity and affected social coexistence. This research is relevant because urban criminality has become a persistent problem within the Ecuadorian context, especially in cities with significant commercial and population activity. The methodology applied was based on a qualitative approach, using descriptive, analytical, and interpretative methods. Likewise, interviews were conducted with one Prosecutor and two criminal law attorneys in order to obtain legal and doctrinal criteria related to theft and urban criminality. As a scientific contribution, this study specifically analyzed the relationship between urban criminality, criminal recidivism, and the limitations of the Ecuadorian criminal justice system regarding theft in public spaces in downtown Ambato. The findings revealed that social, economic, and legal factors directly influence the increase in theft crimes, while the limited effectiveness of preventive and punitive mechanisms contributes to perceptions of impunity and criminal recidivism. Finally, the study concludes that it is necessary to strengthen public security policies and improve the effective application of Ecuadorian criminal law provisions.
