Item Evaluación de tres ciclos en diálisis peritoneal intermitente mediante la medición de nitrógeno ureico sanguíneo (BUN) y creatinina en caninos hiperazotémicos(2024-08) Arcos Pazmiño, María Emilia; Lozada Salcedo, Euclides EfraínThe study evaluated the efficacy of different intermittent peritoneal dialysis cycles (7, 14, and 21) in hyperazotemic canines by measuring blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and serum creatinine levels. Dialysis was performed on 9 dogs aged between 8 and 14 years, including both females and males. Four of them had chronic kidney disease (CKD) stages I and II, while the rest were in stages III and IV according to the IRIS scale. Results showed a significant reduction in BUN (p=0.0001) with increasing cycles, achieving a urea reduction ratio (URR) of 75% with 21 cycles, exceeding 50% with 14 cycles, and reaching 30% with 7 exchanges. Although the creatinine reduction ratio (CRR) was less consistent and not statistically significant (p=0.0795), it showed a tendency to decrease with more cycles. The study concluded that peritoneal dialysis is effective in reducing BUN in canines with chronic renal failure, especially with a higher number of cycles, although it is not recommended in advanced stages (III-IV) of the disease. However, with multiple exchanges, albumin levels should be carefully monitored. The research revealed that, with an increase in the number of IPD cycles, albumin levels decreased significantly in 77.77% of patients, consistent with other studies reporting severe hypoalbuminemia during treatment.Item Efecto de la suplementación con Germen de Malta sobre los niveles de hormonas esteroideas, indicadores metabólicos en ovejas criollas (Ovis aries) sometidas a un protocolo de superovulación en el cantón Quero provincia de Tungurahua(2021-09) Pinos Moreta, Paola Jaennette; Aragadvay Yungán, GonzaloThe objective of this research was to evaluate the effect of malt germ supplementation on steroid hormone levels, metabolic indicators, and productive parameters in Creole ewes (Ovis aries) subjected to a superovulation protocol. A total of 8 ewes were used, divided into two groups I and II, the first one with malt germ and the second one without. The ewes were fed with fresh forage (ryegrass and alfalfa), twice a day, 7 am and 4 pm, and malt germ was added to this ration in an amount of 500 mg, divided twice a day. It should be noted that the animals were adapted for a period of 15 days, after which the estrus synchronization protocol was applied using the Ovsynch method for the two treatments, for which two products, Fertagyl® and Cloprotenol, were used, starting on day zero, seventh and ninth day, applied at 6 am. Once the ewes were in estrus, the superovulation protocol was applied, for which a CIDR® intravaginal progesterone implant was applied, which was removed on day 10, and blood samples were immediately taken to measure progesterone in each of the ewes of G1 and G2. On subsequent days 8, 9, 10 and 11, decreasing doses of FSH (Foltropin®) were applied, from 2 ml every 12 hours until reaching 0.5 ml on the eleventh day. The results obtained showed that the progesterone profile presented a mean of 25.31 ng/ml in contrast to T2 which was determined in a mean of 7.73 ng/ml, and it was determined that there was a significant difference between treatments (p<0.05), glucose presented a mean of 67.75 in T1 and 73.50 in T2, and presented a significant difference between treatments (p<0.05), Ureic Nitrogen (T1 and T2), and it was determined that there was a significant difference between treatments (p<0.05), Ureic Nitrogen (T1 and T2), and it was determined that there was a significant difference between treatments (p<0.05). Finally, weight gain values were obtained for group I of 243.50 and group II with a value of 180.00, with which it is concluded that malt germ allows an energetic balance, as positive responses on weight gain in this analyzed species.
