(2023-09) Patiño Chicaiza, Priscila Nohemí; Borja Caicedo, Byron Enrique
The study presented aimed to determine the Prevalence of the parasite Oesophagostomum in domestic goats (Capra aegragus hircus) slaughtered in the municipal camal of Ambato. A total of 274 samples of male and female goats were obtained over a 6-week study period where females greatly outnumber the admitted males. The samples were evaluated by McMaster's chamber method to obtain parasite load in terms of number of eggs per gram of feces processed with saturated sucrose solution at a density of 1. 2 and macroscopic observation of the anatomopathological alterations caused by the parasite Oesophagostomum in the large and small intestines of infected animals. All the animals that entered the slaughter process presented a parasitic load, so the prevalence was 100%; however, the same did not happen with the frequency of the anatomopathological alterations that were evidenced, these represented 70. 80% of the total, its mean 194 digestive tracts (large and small intestine) were confiscated due to the evident progression of parasitosis in the removed organs. All these seizures represent an economic loss, each confiscated organ represents a loss of USD 20. 00 according to information provided by the importer of small livestock that is provided by the services of the Camal Municipal de Ambato for the slaughter of goats and sheep, so that in the course of the study its loss was a total of USD 3. 880. 00.
