    Evaluación del efecto de isoxazolina (fluralaner) sobre el control de ectoparásitos y la salud dermatológica en coaties cautiverio.

    This study aimed to determine the use of Fluralaner Bravecto® in controlling ectoparasites in captive coatis (Nasua nasua) of the Procyonidae family. Ten individuals were studied from two rescue centers: "El Arca" (Archidona) and "Yanacocha" (Puyo). After the animals were captured, initial dermatological and blood chemistry tests were performed. Seventy percent of the animals presented clinical changes, while 100% showed hematological changes consistent with parasitosis. Fluralaner was subsequently administered, followed by three follow-up tests at 15-, 45-, and 75-days post-treatment. From the first follow-up, a reduction in ectoparasites was evident, while the second showed a decrease in bacterial and fungal skin infections, as well as a progressive improvement in the coat. During the final follow-up, the coaties presented shiny, dense, and healthy coats, with complete recovery of both the skin and the coat. Furthermore, weight gain was recorded in the treated individuals, attributable to a lower parasite load and the resulting utilization of nutrients provided in the diet. Thus, the application of fluralaner Bravecto® proved to be an effective, safe, and long-lasting alternative for the health management of coaties in captivity, contributing to conservation, rehabilitation, welfare, and captive management programs

    Determinación de un perfil hemático en loros cabeciazul (Pionus menstruus) de la familia Psittacidae del zoológico “El Arca” del Tena

    The objective of the present investigation was to determine a hematological profile in blue-headed parrots belonging to the “El Arca” zoo in Tena. Twenty blue-headed parrots with a healthy appearance were used; that is, without the presence of signs or symptoms that indicate any ailment. On semiological examination, blue-headed parrots show good body condition and adequate weight, temperature within the parameters of the species. Blood pressure, respiratory and heart rate should be noted that in some specimens increases due to stress from handling and holding. In the same way, the physical examination was carried out from the beak to the tip of the tail; It was necessary to place the bird in a frontal position to observe the nostrils, the eyes, the beak, the head and the distribution of the feathers, where there was no alteration. Then the blood sample is taken and taken to the laboratory for its respective analysis in the PKL Hematology Autoanalyzer for veterinary use. Determining the values of the blue-headed parrots of the Psittacidae family for the following analytes: total erythrocyte count 2.2 ± 0.4110 ^ 12 / L; hemoglobin 14.5 ± 3.18 g / dL, hematocrit 32.4 ± 6.88%, MCV 149.0 ± 5.43 fL, HCM 66.1 ± 6.06 pg, MCHC 44.4 ± 3.08 g / dL, platelets 17.1 ± 7.33 10 ^ 9 / L total leukocyte count 17.5 ± 10.59 10 ^ 9 / L, heterophiles 21.4 ± 13.9% or 3.43 10 ^ 9 L, lymphocytes 29.4 ± 12.61% or 6.0 10 ^ 9 L, monocytes 47.86 ± 15.64% or 233 10 ^ 9 L, eosinophils 0.9 ± 1.00% or 0.13 10 ^ 9 L and basophils 0.34 ± 0.35% or 0.05 10 ^ 9 L.
