(Universidad Técnica de Ambato. Facultad de Ingeniería Civil y Mecánica, Carrera de Ingeniería Mecánica, 2020) Pilatasig Plasencia, Jairo Danilo; Vaca Ortega, Wilson Henry
The research work refers to the comparison of the SMAW and GTAW welding processes in a martensitic stainless steel, with different contribution materials in each of the welding processes, to achieve technological and scientific benefits in the industries, obtaining mechanical properties equal or better than existing ones with a lower manufacturing cost. This project was carried out in an AISI 420 martensitic stainless steel with the SMAW and GTAW welding processes with input material in the GTAW ER312, ER308 process and a combination of ER308 and ER312; while in the SMAW process E312- 16, E308 L-16 and a combination of both were used, continuing with the construction of the specimens to subsequently perform tensile, impact and hardness tests VICKERS, resulting in valid results with The purpose of evaluating its influence on the mechanical properties of the joints produced, based on the AWS code B4.0, the tests being carried out at the Carrocero Metalmechanical Productive Development Center of the Municipal Government of Tungurahua. After having performed the required tests, an analysis and interpretation of the results was carried out, obtaining that the GTAW welding process is the most recommended, while the contribution material that has the highest tensile strength 674.6 MPa, as well as limit of creep 136,380 Mpa, is the ER - 312. Finally, conclusions and recommendations of the results obtained were given.

The work was carried out with the objective of choosing a suitable electrode to weld a martensitic stainless steel with a medium and low carbon steel in order to generate technological benefits in the industry, as well as study the microstructural changes that may have problems in this material during the welding process which makes it necessary to study the union of these materials. This project was carried out with the SMAW process under the AWS code B4.0 "Standard methods for mechanical welding tests" which establishes the general provisions for the realization of the tensile and impact probes for the joints of AISI 420 stainless steel joints with AISI 1045 medium carbon steel and AISI 1018 low carbon steel using input materials E 308L-16, E 3016L-16 and E 312-16. The tests were carried out in the laboratories of the Center for Productive Development of Mechanical Metalworking of the Municipal Government of Tungurahua. After having performed the required tests, the procedure is analyzed with the respective analysis and interpretation of the results, and the best mechanical properties found in the union of the stainless steel AISI 420 stainless steel and AISI 1018 low carbon steel with the material of E312-16 contribution obtaining a maximum effort of 613,61 MPa, in addition to an elongation percentage of 16.79 percent likewise the impact energy of 61.27 J and a maximum hardness of 269.38 VHI.

The present research work is based on the GTAW welding process made in AISI 420 martensitic stainless steel joints with ER 308L and ER 312 filler material. Subsequently, samples were obtained to perform destructive impact tests, hardness, guided bending and traction; whose results have been evaluated in this research work with the purpose of determining the influence of the materials of contribution in the mechanical properties of the welded joints. This research project is based on the AWS code D1.6 "Structural Welding Code Stainless Steel" whose code establishes general provisions for carrying out the welding process in stainless steels. The tests were conducted at the Polytechnic School of Chimborazo in the laboratories of the school of mechanics, for its development was counted with the guidance and advice of the technicians of the different laboratories of materials and tests; as well as equipment was used. The data obtained were tabulated and the best contribution material was selected by means of a suitable analysis in order to determine which has a better influence on the properties of the AISI 420 martensitic stainless steel. At the end of the research project, conclusions and recommendations were obtained based on the results obtained in order to contribute to improve the welding procedures in this type of material that can be applied in the industrial field.
