Item Diseño y análisis del comportamiento estructural de un edificio en la ciudad de Ambato mediante el uso de disipadores sísmicos.(Universidad Técnica de Ambato. Facultad de Ingeniería Civil y Mecánica. Maestría en Ingeniería Civil con Mención en Estructuras Metálicas., 2025) López Sánchez José Luis; Cañizares Ortega Freddy FernandoThis research project presents a comparative analysis of the seismic performance of a special building located in Ambato, utilizing Special Moment Frames (SMF) and Buckling-Restrained Braces (BRB). The main objective of the study is to evaluate the structural performance in terms of strength, capacity, stiffness, and nonlinear behavior under seismic loading. The proposed design for the steel structure incorporates BRB frames, aimed at minimizing deformations induced by seismic events. These systems utilize braces with ductile cores and replaceable assemblies, which enable efficient energy dissipation. The applied methodology is based on international standards such as AISC 360, AISC 341, NEC 15, and ASCE 41-17, covering literature review, soil analysis, load estimation, nonlinear time history analysis, and unit cost comparison. The results show that BRB systems offer superior seismic performance compared to moment-resisting frames, without involving a significant increase in implementation costs. However, it is important to note that the findings of this research are specific to the soil and loading conditions of the analyzed structure; therefore, further studies are recommended for other types of buildings and geotechnical contexts.Item Determinación de acelerogramas reales para su empleo en los análisis dinámicos de las estructuras de edificaciones en la ciudad de Puyo(Universidad Técnica de Ambato. Facultad de Ingeniería Civil y Mecánica. Maestría en Ingeniería Civil con Mención en Estructuras Metálicas, 2023-03) Gamboa Armijo, Pablo Fidel; Ramírez Cabrera, Wladimir JoséThe city of Puyo has a population of 36,659 inhabitants in an area of 87. 67 km2, constituted with 82 percent of clay soil and considering that Ecuador is a country of high seismic movement for being between two tectonic plates, the Nascar and the South American plate, the present study was focused on the search of real accelerograms belonging to seismic events whose characteristics comply with the conditions of magnitude, type of fault, distance to the fault point and soil effects of the study locality, according to its seismicity and seismicity, the distance to the point of failure and the soil effects of the study locality, in accordance with its seismicity and spectrality specified in the Ecuadorian Construction Norm (NEC), in addition, 7 computational routines were generated that allowed the treatment, processing and analysis of the same, in turn the chosen spectra were compared with two different types: design elastics for a seismic return of 475 and 2500 years for buildings of between 1 to 6 stories of structural elevation between their fundamental periods of the building of 0. 2T and 1.5T with which scaled accelerogram spectra were obtained that complied with Ecuadorian regulations and that in the future could be used in dynamic design studies for multilevel steel structures to be projected in the city of Puyo.Item Determinación del desempeño sísmico económico de un edificio en acero, mediante la metodología del FEMA P-58 y su programa Pact.(Universidad Técnica de Ambato. Facultad de Ingeniería Civil y Mecánica. Maestría en Ingeniería Civil con Mención en Estructuras Metálicas, 2023) Iza Chimbana, Néstor Gonzalo; Ramírez Cabrera, Wladimir JoséIn a country like Ecuador with great seismic danger, it is important to investigate methodologies that help to mitigate the damage that the structures could have in the occurrence of these seismic events. A methodology that allows determining the possible damage that the building could have, is the methodology described in the FEMA P-58, which allows us to know economic results and casualties in a probabilistic way. The present research work began by performing a seismic resistant analysis of a building, with a lateral load resistant system of special SMF moment resisting structural steel frames composed of HEB cruciform columns and IPE beams. We started designing the structures by means of a linear static and dynamic analysis. The structure has an adequate behavior and complies with the mandatory regulatory checks, such as checking the floor drifts, the design of its structural elements and connections. In order to carry out the design according to the FEMA P-58 methodology, it was necessary to perform a nonlinear dynamic time-history analysis, for which 11 seismic records were selected, which were scaled to different intensity levels and as a result information on displacements and floor accelerations was obtained. These were used for the application of the PACT tool of the FEMA P-58 methodology, which is a program that allowed us to determine the possible cost, repair time of the building, as well as injuries and deaths for the different levels of intensity.Item Estudio de peligro sísmico determinista para las estructuras del cantón Ambato – parroquia La Merced – sector Cashapamba y barrio Jesús Obrero – ubicado en las avenidas Unidad Nacional, Cevallos, Julio Enrique Paredes, Julián Coronel, Humberto Albornoz, Vicente Maldonado y Cristóbal Colón(Universidad Técnica de Ambato. Facultad de Ingeniería Civil y Mecánica. Carrera de Ingeniería Civil, 2019) Galarza Barrionuevo, Lenin Andrés; Garcés Chávez, Juan EnriqueIn the present research project, the evaluation of a deterministic spectrum was carried out based on the selected faults that affect the study area with the spectrum proposed by the NEC-2015. The analysis was performed in 3 structures of the place where its vibration period was calculated, corresponding to the acceleration Sa (g) of each spectrum. To carry out this analysis, the standard penetration test was performed in 5 places, where the soil was classified as sand and the Nspt value was obtained to be applied in empirical equations that allow to calculate the average speed of the shear wave Vs30 of the soil profile, 5 geological faults capable of producing a significant terrain movement were taken into account, based on the source-site distance of the study the magnitude of moment for each fault was calculated based on the WellsCoppersmith methodology, by Using parameters such as distance to the epicenter, focal depth, the soil movement prediction equations (GMPs) were used: Akkar and Bommer (2010), Boore and Atkinson (2008), Kanno (2006), Youngs (1997) and Zhao (2006) obtaining acceleration spectra and through an envelope of all the acceleration spectra a specific spectrum of maximum accelerations is obtained which is compared with the spectrum of the NEC15. Individually it can be said that the Fault of Ambato with a value Mw = 6.5, is the most critical for the study area since it has a closeness of 2.4 km being this the lowest. The accelerations given by the specific spectrum for buildings that have structural periods between 0.10sec - 0.5sec are greater than those obtained according to the NEC-15.
