    Cuidados paliativos en pacientes oncológicos pertenecientes a SOLCA núcleo de Tungurahua

    Introduction: Nurses face several challenges in providing effective care for patients with chronic diseases. Objective: To know the activities that the nursing personnel carry out in palliative care in oncological patients belonging to SOLCA Nucleus de Tungurahua. Methods: Quantitative, descriptive, field, exploratory, association and cross-sectional research. The population of study was confirmed by the personnel of the nursing area that works in the Hospital SOLCA Nucleus of Tungurahua. A check-list was applied and a validated questionnaire called "Palliative care difficulties scale" (PCDS). Finally, ethical aspects were considered in relation to the research, since full support and authorization was obtained from the authorities of the Hospital SOLCA Nucleus de Tungurahua to carry out the study. Results: The assessment resulted in multidisciplinary team communication, 0.811-0.976; patient and family communication, 0.9350.972; expert support, 0.760-0.856; reduction of symptoms, 0.881-0.978; and coordination of communication, 0.895-0.951. Conclusions: From the perspective of nurses, the greatest challenges are the need not only to qualify program staff to provide appropriate care in the context of terminal illness, but also to review work processes in the context of care.
