The present research work on the Adaptation of the Barthel Scale to assess functional independence in children with intellectual disabilities, proposed the goal of adapting the Barthel scale originally applied in older adults, the methodological process was first developed with a systematic adaptation of the instrument according to the motor development of the child, carrying out a review of scientific information, while for the validation of the items of the scale questionnaire was carried out with a committee of experts who reviewed the instrument, the manual and approved through of a validation form; Finally, the analysis of reliability and internal consistency of the instrument was made by calculating the Cronbach's Alpha Coefficient with the SPSS v20 statistic; of the application of the scale adapted to 50 participants, selected in a random way. Concluding that the Adapted Barthel Scale, for children with intellectual disability, is reliable and has a high internal consistency for a value of 0.83 of the alpha.
