Gavilanes Manzano, Fanny RocíoMe objective of the present investigation has to analyze the correlation between emotional intelligence and alcohol consumption in university students in first semesters at the school of Health Sciences in the Technical University of Ambato. Emotional intelligence is a collectión of abilities and emotional, personal, social skills to deal with external influences promoting awareness of one's own emotions and those of others that improve the quality of life. The consumption of alcohol is a cultural activity that begins at an early age and increases over time because it is one of the causes of physical and psychological discomfort, may be due to affective, personal and academic conflicts, which can be classified as a social problem of great importance. For the development of the research, the EQ-I Test was used to assess emotional intelligence, consists of 133 statements that evaluate various areas of emotional intelligence proposed by Reuven Bar-On and the AUDIT Test consists of 10 statements to evaluate and delimit the consumption of alcohol. There was a sample of 160 students of which 6 students decided not to participate in the study, the total population was 154 students. Using the SPSS statistical program by means of the chi-square test, 0.031 <0.05 was found, therefore the Ho is accepted, demonstrating the independence of the variables of emotional intelligence and alcohol consumption, it is concluded that the population has normal emotional capacities, He identified that there is no risk of alcohol consumption.
