    El internet y el desempeño académico en la asignatura de Ciencias Naturales de los estudiantes de Educación General Básica Media de la escuela de Educación Básica “Los Sauces” de la ciudad de Ambato

    La presente investigación tuvo el propósito de analizar el impacto del uso del internet en el desempeño académico en la asignatura de Ciencias Naturales de los estudiantes de Educación General Básica Media de la Escuela de Educación Básica “Los Sauces” de la ciudad de Ambato. Se empleó la modalidad bibliográfica para buscar información actualizada en artículos de revista, repositorios de la Universidad Técnica de Ambato y diferentes universidades para fundamentar teóricamente las dos variables de estudio. Asimismo se aplicó la modalidad de campo por que fue necesario indagar el problema en la institución, mediante la técnica de la encuesta y su instrumento el cuestionario para estudiantes y la técnica de la entrevista y su instrumento el cuestionario de entrevista dirigida hacia docentes, el enfoque de la investigación es mixto, es decir cualitativo porque se encontró información no cuantificables permitiendo detallar en un informe los resultados y cuantitativo porque se obtuvo datos numéricos que sirvieron para recopilar información, posteriormente realizar su análisis e interpretación correspondiente. Se trabajó con una muestra de 60 estudiantes que conforman el subnivel Medio, los mismo que se encuentra en el rango de edad de 9- 11 años y 1 docente de la asignatura de Ciencias Naturales. Se llegó a la conclusión de que el internet si tiene influencia en el desempeño académico debido a que a través de esta red su desempeño académico es superior, por lo que los alumnos dominan los aprendizajes requeridos causando un gran impacto en los estudiantes y docentes para mejorar el proceso d enseñanza- aprendizaje de los estudiantes

    Internet memes and the improvement of writing skills

    This study focused on the topic of Internet memes. These digital items are formed by a combination of images of all kinds, especially pictures featuring people in different situations, and usually humorous text that permit to communicate written ideas that surpass the sum of their parts. Internet memes were applied in order to achieve the improvement of the writing skills based on the cognitivist model of knowledge acquisition. Such model, contains a diverse amount of writing skills such as knowledge (the ability to use knowledge covered in class), comprehension (the ability to use grammar and spelling correctly), analysis (the ability to use Internet meme templates appropriately) and synthesis (to effectively combine text and images to convey ideas beyond those separated elements.) The population of the study was formed by 32 students (25 female and 7 male) who constituted the totality of students from the English school of IST “Manuel Lezaeta A.”, private technological institute located in the city of Ambato, Tungurahua province, Ecuador. To begin the study, the students were evaluated through a pre-test based on the previously mentioned skills. Afterwards, the complete group was instructed on the creation of memes using webpage imgflip.com’s meme generator, as well as on the particularities and potential applications of specific Internet memes using the Xia and Zhu method. As instruction unfolded, students were asked to generate Internet memes based on templated with the aim of monitoring their progress. Finally, students took a post-test with the goal of measuring improvement. The data collected were processed using statistical software SPSS and evidenced positive results since the program displayed statistically relevant improvement on the students’ writing skills. After the process was finished based on information gathered, this non-experimental study concludes that Internet memes influence positively on the improvement of writing skills of the chosen study group.

    Social media in the writing skill development

    The purpose of this research was to analyze the impact of social media in the writing skill development of the students from third semester of Pedagogía de los Idiomas Nacionales y Extranjeros, in which a qualitative and quantitative methodology was applied to 40 students. The data collection was developed through a survey evaluated through the Chi Square process to verify the research hypothesis, focusing on the comparison of results to determine the effectiveness of the strategy established. Main findings state that the use of social media helps the writing skill since students feel motivated using platforms and apps through the internet. In addition, it is necessary to highlight the value of knowing the methodological process when producing writing in English and developing this productive skill. Therefore, the use of virtual platforms and cell phone applications is recommended to improve writing development, in addition to knowing the writing process and tips to improve writing, which are detailed in a brochure
