Item HERRAMIENTAS DIAGNOSTICAS EN EL CÁNCER DE PRÓSTATA: ÍNDICE DE SALUD PROSTÁTICA Y 4KSCORE(2026-02-04) Romero Safla, Pamela Johanna; Ron Mora, Álvaro Sebastián; Universidad Técnica de Ambato / Facultad de Ciencias de Salud / Carrera de Laboratorio ClínicoProstate cancer is one of the most common diseases among the male population, hence the importance of early detection through cancer screening. At the time of diagnosis, several techniques are used, including magnetic resonance imaging, biopsies, digital rectal examination, and laboratory biomarkers such as prostate-specific antigen (PSA). Although PSA has been the gold standard in prostate cancer detection, its lack of specificity limits early detection because PSA levels can be elevated in conditions such as benign hyperplasia. Although PSA has been the gold standard in prostate cancer detection, its lack of specificity limits early detection because PSA levels can rise in conditions such as benign hyperplasia or prostate inflammation, leading to a high number of false positives and, as a result, cancer progressing undetected. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the benefits of incorporating serum biomarkers, such as the Prostate Health Index and 4Kscore test, into prostate cancer screening and risk stratification, and to reaffirm their use as tools in reducing overdiagnosis and unnecessary procedures.
