The identified problem stems from local products that do not take into account the physiological and biomechanical changes women undergo during pregnancy, which leads to physical discomfort and a loss of independence. The main objective was to develop a comprehensive solution that combines principles of biomechanics, preventive ergonomics, and the selection of technical materials to improve the quality of life for users. The methodology employed a mixed-methods approach, integrating diagnostic surveys and the use of 3D scanning technologies, which allowed for the identification of an average 8% increase in metatarsal circumference and critical changes in the plantar arch. As a result, a collection was designed based on gradually increasing last sizes, easy-access closure systems, and cushioning structures that optimize pressure distribution. The conclusions highlight that the implementation of specialized footwear not only prevents musculoskeletal pathologies but also enhances the safety and emotional well-being of pregnant women. This technical proposal demonstrates that the fusion of academic design and local manufacturing enables the creation of products with high functional value and competitiveness in the Ecuadorian footwear sector.Item Diseño de una colección de bolsos multifuncionales integrando upcycling en denim para la Empresa Faditex(UNIVERSIDAD TÉCNICA DE AMBATO; FACULTAD DE DISEÑO Y ARQUITECTURA CARRERA DE DISEÑO TEXTIL E INDUMENTARIA, 2026-07-06) Llerena Gomez Giovanna Paola; Ramírez Bonilla Nancy Raquel; UNIVERSIDAD TÉCNICA DE AMBATO; FACULTAD DE DISEÑO Y ARQUITECTURA CARRERA DE DISEÑO TEXTIL E INDUMENTARIAThis study addressed the issue of the accumulation and underutilization of denim textile scraps generated during the cutting and sewing processes at Faditex, a company located in the San Pedro de Pelileo district, Tungurahua province. This situation highlights the need to implement sustainable strategies within the textile industry that reduce the environmental impact caused by pre-consumer waste while simultaneously generating new opportunities for innovation and added value. In this context, the study aimed to design a collection of multifunctional bags made from denim textile scraps through upcycling processes, designed to meet the functional, aesthetic, and contemporary needs of the company’s direct consumers. The research was conducted using a qualitative and experimental approach, through a literature review of references related to sustainable design, textile reuse, denim, and upcycling. Thus, techniques of observation, material experimentation, and analysis of the physical and functional properties of denim textile remnants were applied to determine their viability in the construction of multifunctional accessories. During the design process, criteria related to functionality, ergonomics, aesthetics, and innovation were integrated, enabling the development of adaptable and transformable designs that align with current market trends. The results showed that denim textile scraps possess characteristics suitable for reuse in the production of multifunctional bags, enabling the creation of functional, durable, and visually appealing products. Similarly, it was determined that the application of upcycling helps reduce textile waste and contributes to strengthening practices related to the circular economy within the company. The study addresses the environmental problem caused by the accumulation and inadequate management of textile remnants, which contribute to pollution and resource waste within the fashion industry. In response to this issue, upcycling is proposed as a sustainable strategy to transform discarded denim materials into functional and aesthetically valuable products. The research is supported by theoretical foundations related to sustainable design, circular fashion, textile waste management, denim characteristics, and upcycling techniques. A qualitative and applied approach is employed, using bibliographic review, interviews with company personnel and textile design professionals, as well as surveys directed at female students of Textile and Apparel Design. These instruments provide information regarding user preferences, technical criteria, and the suitability of textile waste for product development. Experimental records are also used to evaluate the applicability of different upcycling techniques in the creation of new textile surfaces. Based on the findings obtained, a collection of casual handbags is designed using denim textile remnants and creative upcycling techniques. The proposal seeks to reduce textile waste, promote sustainable production practices, and provide innovative products that combine functionality, aesthetics, and environmental responsibility. This is no exception for local automotive mechanics; however, the limited availability of garments that meet their specific requirements has led workers to use clothing that is unsuitable for their job duties. The objective of this project was to design a denim workwear collection that is ergonomic, functional, and protective for automotive mechanics in collaboration with BETO JUNIOR, a company dedicated to the production of denim garments. To meet the users’ actual needs, the User-Centered Design (UCD) methodology was applied in automotive repair shops in the city of Ambato. Field research made it possible to understand these needs through surveys of workwear users, observation sheets of the work environment, and interviews with both users and experts in design and ergonomics, who provided technical criteria for the development of the collection. In addition, an interview was conducted with the company collaborating on the research project. A literature review of denim properties was also carried out to ensure an appropriate selection. In Riobamba, this phenomenon affects the Diablo de Lata, an emblematic character of the Pase del Niño whose original meaning, rebellious, defiant, and associated with cultural resistance, has been progressively displaced until it has acquired a primarily festive and ornamental role. This symbolic reduction, coupled with the absence of clothing designs that integrate local references into streetwear, limits young people's connection to their cultural heritage. The project was developed using a qualitative approach through interviews with artisans who are bearers of knowledge, visual and material analysis of the Diablo de Lata costume, and focus groups with young streetwear consumers. In addition, the User-Centered Design (UCD) methodology was applied in the design process, along with a textile experimentation phase that incorporated techniques such as fabric slashing, hand printing, fraying, discharge printing, free embroidery, laser engraving, and DTF. The findings show that young people value streetwear design proposals that integrate reinterpreted cultural symbols. The artisans contributed meanings, colors, and formal elements of the character, and the experimental techniques demonstrated aesthetic and functional viability. However, during the cutting and sewing process, textile remnants are generated that are still of Good quality but for which there is no reuse system. In response to this problem, this project emerges as a sustainable alternative that seeks to transform these remnants into new design opportunities. The research is justified by the need to implement circular economy practices within the Ecuadorian textile industry and by the growth of the pet fashion market, especially for small breeds, which demand functional, comfortable, and aesthetic garments for the user. To this end, a methodology was used based on interviews with the owner, To this end, a methodology was used based on interviews with the owner, analysis of the remnants generated through classification and curation files, as well as the application of Fletcher's transformation method, which allowed for the exploration of new combinations and uses of the leftover material. The results show that LuiveR remnants retain the properties necessary to develop formal canine clothing such as suits, dresses, and vests, maintaining standards of ergonomics, mobility, and comfort for the pet. The collection demonstrates that upcycling can be efficiently integrated into the production process, generating unique products with added value. It began operations in 2011 and has enjoyed a successful track record. It is currently developing innovative proposals, which is why it is important to continue innovating and expanding into new market segments. In this regard, this integrative project is part of new proposals for the postpartum line, in this case introducing proposals aimed at surgical postpartum care to expand the range of products currently available and to serve a growing population group. To this end, research techniques such as interviews with clothing designers, surveys of women who had given birth by C-section, and focus groups with obstetricians were used, which determined that women's priorities at this stage are abdominal support, a feeling of security, and the use of materials that are soft against the skin, such as polyamide, cotton, and powernet. This was supported by interviews as the main source of information for this type of garment, which should provide compression and allow women to feel comfortable. With this information, a collection of underwear for these women was proposed through user-centered design. The research led to the establishment of the corresponding requirements, the proposal of a collection with the development of outfits, and the application of colors used by the brand. As a response, this work proposes a women’s tailoring collection for the company Ali’s Store, grounded in the fusion of classical tailoring techniques and the visual incorporation of urban graffiti as a means of cultural and artistic identity expression. The proposal is supported by both theoretical and field research, including the analysis of international fashion references such as Moschino, Stella McCartney, and Varun Bahl, as well as interviews and focus groups with women aged 20 to 25, the brand’s target audience. Key graffiti artworks from downtown Ambato were also identified for their application as graphic elements in the designs. This research allowed for the development of a creative and culturally relevant approach to the collection. The outcome is a capsule collection of contemporary women’s tailoring, featuring garments such as blazers, trousers, shirts, vests, and skirts, enhanced with textile techniques like embroidery, sublimation, and spray painting. These pieces are inspired by the visual elements of graffiti—color, typography, and patterns—while maintaining the elegance and precision of traditional tailoring. The research builds upon an analysis of existing scholarly sources and experimental trials to identify the optimal technical parameters for the transfer of natural pigments from endemic flora to sustainable textiles, such as linen and cotton, eliminating the dependence on synthetic dyes and reducing the environmental impact. The methodology combined technical experimentation by adjusting mordanting and post-treatment protocols with market research, including focus groups and expert interviews, which revealed a preference for designs with earthy colour palettes, relaxed silhouettes and minimalist detailing. These findings were integrated into the nine design domains, which allowed the definition of clear and consistent criteria for the implementation of the proposal, aligned with the ARTIA trend. The process culminated in the creation of a casual wear collection that coherently integrates the hapa zome technique and responds to the demands of a young and conscious market. The project responds to the need to revalue artisanal techniques that are being displaced by industrial textile processes. The proposal aims to establish a dialogue between tradition and modernity, integrating Salasaka hand embroidery into an urban fashion collection targeted at both male and female audiences. The project followed a design-based methodology, covering stages such as contextual and formal research, technical analysis of traditional and contemporary embroidery, and direct fieldwork observation. Artisanal practices were documented, including processes, materials, and techniques employed by local artisans. This analysis allowed for evaluating the adaptability of embroidery to denim fabrics, considering aspects such as texture, durability, symbolic expression, and visual harmony between the material and the artisanal technique. The outcome is a six-outfit collection featuring upper and lower garments, created using various denim compositions and weights. The collection demonstrates the feasibility of incorporating Salasaka embroidery into industrially produced urban garments while maintaining its cultural and symbolic integrity. In doing so, it reinforces the connection between contemporary fashion design and Andean textile heritage, offering a renewed framework for the valorization of traditional craft techniques.
