    This project addresses a challenge related to the limited availability of contemporary women's tailoring in the city of Ambato, where most offerings remain rooted in traditional approaches that fail to meet the tastes and lifestyles of modern urban women. As a response, this work proposes a women’s tailoring collection for the company Ali’s Store, grounded in the fusion of classical tailoring techniques and the visual incorporation of urban graffiti as a means of cultural and artistic identity expression. The proposal is supported by both theoretical and field research, including the analysis of international fashion references such as Moschino, Stella McCartney, and Varun Bahl, as well as interviews and focus groups with women aged 20 to 25, the brand’s target audience. Key graffiti artworks from downtown Ambato were also identified for their application as graphic elements in the designs. This research allowed for the development of a creative and culturally relevant approach to the collection. The outcome is a capsule collection of contemporary women’s tailoring, featuring garments such as blazers, trousers, shirts, vests, and skirts, enhanced with textile techniques like embroidery, sublimation, and spray painting. These pieces are inspired by the visual elements of graffiti—color, typography, and patterns—while maintaining the elegance and precision of traditional tailoring. In conclusion, this project contributes to the modernization of women’s tailoring in Ambato, offering an innovative, personalized, and culturally grounded proposal that enables Ali’s Store to expand its product range and connect with a younger audience seeking clothing that reflects identity and artistic value

    This research analyzes the Panzaleo people's chumbi clothing artifact from a cultural identity and design perspective, seeking to interpret its symbolic, communicative, and functional value. Using a qualitative methodology, supported by a bibliographic review and fieldwork with semi-structured interviews with community members and artisans, the study delves into the construction techniques, traditional uses, and the symbolic meaning associated with this textile accessory. The theoretical basis for the importance of the chumbi as a living cultural manifestation, linked to the Panzaleo people's sense of belonging, resistance, and ancestral memory. The research identifies the materials, colors, symbols, and methods used in its manufacture, revealing a close relationship between the chumbi and the community's natural, social, and spiritual environment. The analysis is complemented by the development of an interpretive catalog, which articulates theoretical and testimonial sources to make visible and revalue this element of Andean textile heritage. The conclusions indicate that the chumbi is a symbol of cultural identity in constant redefinition, whose preservation depends on social recognition and intercultural dialogue. This work constitutes an academic and creative contribution that seeks to strengthen collective memory and contribute to the appreciation of traditional design as a source of cultural knowledge.

    This thesis project is about the development of textile design products for the home, using the macramé technique as a decorative detail. The main objective is to create a line of objects such as wall hangings, cushions, table runners and placemats that combine modern design with an artisanal and handmade touch. Although macramé is an important technique within the project, the main focus is on textile design: thinking about the materials, colors, shapes and functions of each piece so that it looks good in the spaces of the home and also has a utility. What is sought is that these products not only serve as decoration, but also convey emotions and reflect a warmer, natural and personal style. The work process included researching the topic, seeing what products exist in the market, surveying potential users to find out their tastes, and finally designing and manufacturing the products. We also worked on the technical specifications and costs, thinking that this line of products could be marketed. The general idea is to show how a traditional technique such as macramé can be rescued and applied to current textile design, generating pieces that look good, have quality and tell a story. With this, we want to give more value to manual work and offer decorative alternatives with identity.

    This thesis addresses the environmental challenge in the textile industry by incorporating the hapa zome technique in the design of a casual wear collection for the company PISCIS. The research builds upon an analysis of existing scholarly sources and experimental trials to identify the optimal technical parameters for the transfer of natural pigments from endemic flora to sustainable textiles, such as linen and cotton, eliminating the dependence on synthetic dyes and reducing the environmental impact. The methodology combined technical experimentation by adjusting mordanting and post-treatment protocols with market research, including focus groups and expert interviews, which revealed a preference for designs with earthy colour palettes, relaxed silhouettes and minimalist detailing. These findings were integrated into the nine design domains, which allowed the definition of clear and consistent criteria for the implementation of the proposal, aligned with the ARTIA trend. The process culminated in the creation of a casual wear collection that coherently integrates the hapa zome technique and responds to the demands of a young and conscious market. The final proposal demonstrates the technical and aesthetic viability of the method, offering a replicable model for the adoption of ecological practices in textile design, and consolidating itself as an innovative and sustainable alternative in the current competitive environment.

    This research presents the design of a denim clothing collection for the company ALRAM, based on the interpretation of embroidery from the festive garments of the Salasaka community, located in Tungurahua Province, Ecuador. The project responds to the need to revalue artisanal techniques that are being displaced by industrial textile processes. The proposal aims to establish a dialogue between tradition and modernity, integrating Salasaka hand embroidery into an urban fashion collection targeted at both male and female audiences. The project followed a design-based methodology, covering stages such as contextual and formal research, technical analysis of traditional and contemporary embroidery, and direct fieldwork observation. Artisanal practices were documented, including processes, materials, and techniques employed by local artisans. This analysis allowed for evaluating the adaptability of embroidery to denim fabrics, considering aspects such as texture, durability, symbolic expression, and visual harmony between the material and the artisanal technique. The outcome is a six-outfit collection featuring upper and lower garments, created using various denim compositions and weights. The collection demonstrates the feasibility of incorporating Salasaka embroidery into industrially produced urban garments while maintaining its cultural and symbolic integrity. In doing so, it reinforces the connection between contemporary fashion design and Andean textile heritage, offering a renewed framework for the valorization of traditional craft techniques.

    This project entitled “Development of a collection of multifunctional bags in leather goods with the experimentation of origami and folding techniques for the company Curtiembre Quisapincha” aims to introduce the traditional techniques of origami to the field of accessory design to build folding structures that allow the transformation of shapes and sizes, in order to develop bags that fulfill various functions and adapt to the needs of the consumer. The semi-structured interview was applied to female teachers of the Faculty of Design and Architecture of the Technical University of Ambato, this group represents an active and professional consumer profile with specific needs, because they daily carry a variety of items, not only personal items but also tools for teaching practical classes such as: pattern rules, flexometer, tape measure, drawing materials, notebooks, computer, etc. The results obtained indicated a clear need for large, adaptable and durable bags. In the experimental phase, different origami and folding techniques adapted to fashion and accessory design, which were investigated in previous academic articles, were applied. As a result, it was identified that modular origami with folding structure is the most viable technique that allows the integration of multifunctionality through transformation and aesthetic design.

    The purpose of this thesis project is to design a quilted urban apparel collection using alternative materials with a sustainable approach. The research focuses on the identification and application of materials that are not only functional and aesthetically appealing, but also offer an ecological alternative to traditional methods. Through a process of experimentation and analysis of alternative textiles, garments incorporating innovative quilting are developed, evaluating their performance in terms of comfort, durability, and sustainability. The collection is aimed at a young audience aware of the importance of ethical and sustainable fashion. It seeks to contribute to the advancement of the textile industry through the use of technologies and practices that promote a reduction in environmental impact while meeting the demands of the modern consumer.

    This research proposes the design of a children's clothing line based on illustrations created by children between the ages of 6 and 10, with the aim of visualizing their emotions through graphic language applied to clothing. The initiative arises in response to the lack of textile proposals that consider the emotional component in children's fashion design, while offering a creative alternative for children to actively participate in the symbolic construction of their identity. Based on the analysis of previous studies, it is established that free drawing, graphic symbols, and visual elements used by children carry deep meanings related to their emotional world. These findings have allowed the construction of a conceptual framework that supports the integration of these representations into fashion design, showing how emotions can be visually translated into garments that are functional, expressive, and coherent with the user. The proposed methodology is based on participatory approaches that consider the child as an active subject in the creative process. Through dynamics focused on the graphic representation of emotions, illustrations are collected and incorporated into clothing designs using appropriate textile techniques. In this way, the symbolic nature of clothing as a vehicle for emotional expression is reinforced, promoting a design with identity.

    This project aims to incorporate artisanal and industrial textile interventions into the design of women's footwear for Xiomara Shoes, with the goal of enhancing both the aesthetic and functional value of its products. In a constantly evolving fashion industry, this proposal seeks to meet the growing demand for footwear that combines exclusivity, quality, and design through textile techniques that add identity and sophistication. The importance of this study lies in the need to offer differentiated alternatives within the footwear industry, integrating processes that allow for customization and the development of products with greater added value. The research is framed within the field of textile design and production applied to footwear, exploring how textile interventions can transform consumer perception and strengthen brand identity. To achieve this, a market analysis has been conducted, identifying consumer preferences and current trends. The applied methodology includes bibliographic research, experimentation records, and material testing, ensuring the feasibility of each intervention within the footwear structure. As a result, an experimental collection has been developed to serve as a reference for future productions, ensuring that textile interventions are not merely decorative elements but integral components of the design. This project represents an opportunity for Xiomara Shoes to position itself as an innovative brand, offering footwear that balances tradition and modernity.

    The design of a casual clothing collection inspired by the zamarro of Cayambe seeks to preserve and reinterpret one of the most emblematic garments of Ecuadorian indigenous culture. The objective was to adapt its technical, aesthetic, and symbolic elements into functional and contemporary garments for men and women between 20 and 25 years old from the city of Ambato. This project was developed in collaboration with the company Capolivery and local leather artisans, valuing the ancestral knowledge of the talabartería. Through interviews, focus groups, and field observations, it was possible to identify the needs and expectations of the target audience. As a result, a collection of versatile and culturally significant garments was proposed, using materials such as denim, cotton, and natural leather, as well as handmade techniques like embossing and fraying. The proposal promotes the preservation of intangible heritage through fashion, linking traditional knowledge with design innovation. It also opens new opportunities for collaboration between artisans and designers, reinforcing the cultural identity of Ecuador in the textile industry.
