Item Las técnicas artesanales y el turismo rural en el cantón Otavalo; caso de estudio: El rol de la mujer otavaleña(Universidad Técnica de Ambato-Facultad de Ciencias Humanas y de la educación -Carrera de Turismo, 2025-07-04) Chanaluisa Arequipa Angely Nicole; Toledo Villacis Marco Antonio; Universidad Técnica de Ambato-Facultad de Ciencias Humanas y de la educación -Carrera de TurismoThe main objective of this research is to analyze the relationship between handicraft techniques and rural tourism in the Otavalo canton, to make visible the role of Otavalo women. The methodology used was qualitative, with a transversal non-experimental design and a research scope. The instruments used were the INPC's A5 cards of traditional handicraft techniques and a questionnaire of ten open-ended questions. The results obtained show that Otavalo women have been the main preservers of the traditional handicraft techniques used in the handicrafts that are most characteristic of the Otavalo canton. These Otavaleña women are the main guardians of ancestral knowledge, transmitted orally and from generation to generation, which ensures the continuity of these crafts of great cultural value. The interviews were conducted with tourism experts from Otavalo GAD to gather information on the characteristics of the dimensions of rural tourism in the canton. It was concluded that the central role of Otavalo women in the preservation of handicraft techniques and the cultural and natural wealth of the canton has been one of the main reasons for tourists to visit. Despite the disorganized tourism planning, Otavaleña women are key to keeping the culture and traditions alive.
