Maestria en la Enseñanza del Idioma Inglés como Lengua Extranjera, 2019-07) Andrade Moran, José Ignacio; Parra Gavilánez, Lorena FernandaThe present research is based on cooperative learning in the English speaking fluency development. Taking into account the students‟ English level from the language center at Universidad Technical de Cotopaxi; group work activities are proposed to encourage students to produce the language orally without fear of making mistakes while speaking. In addition, the application of this teaching method provided confidence, reliance, and support enough to reach their personal goals and improved their linguistic competences, social skills and the use of the English language. The use of dynamic activities in class showed the students‟ abilities to solve problems among them, providing mutual respect and interaction while working and learning together. A survey was applied to carry out this research and it was analyzed through the Cronbach Alfa. In addition, a pretest and posttest were applied at the beginning of the semester and after of the implementation of cooperative learning activities that helped students to work in groups and to communicate between classmates in a better way.Item Authentic audiovisual material for English oral expression development(Universidad Técnica de Ambato. Maestria en la Enseñanza del Idioma Inglés como Lengua Extranjera, 2019-02) Manzano Pérez, Rodrigo Javier; Vera de la Torre, Ana JazminaThe work presented below has been focused on evaluating oral expression as a result of exposure to authentic audiovisual material in the First-Year students of Unified General Baccalaureate of the Unidad Educativa "Rumiñahui" of Ambato, in Tungurahua province. With the help of a pre-test as an assessment instrument, the data collection was done and, in this way, it was evident the lack of use of authentic audio-visual material within classrooms to promote the development of oral expression in students. The results were analyzed with the T-student statistical test to check the validation of the hypothesis. A population of 52 students were considered and the present research was carried out demonstrating that authentic audiovisual material provides a better practice of oral expression, promoting the communicative process of students in the English language. The result was 3.75. Due to this very favorable result, this study concluded in the creation of a methodological guide that includes the application of authentic audiovisual material within the class to improve oral expression. The methodological guide, in addition, includes a rubric of evaluation of the activities and thus to verify the advance of the students. This is why, based on the results, the use of authentic audiovisual material is suggested to reinforce oral expression.Item Duolingo language-learning platform and the English vocabulary acquisition in students of third year of bachillerato at Unidad Educativa Primero de Abril(Universidad Técnica de Ambato. Maestria en la Enseñanza del Idioma Inglés como Lengua Extranjera, 2019-01) Borja Herrera, Carlos Xavier; Meléndez Escobar, Lorena MonserrathThe objective of this research was to analyze how the Duolingo language-learning platform enhanced the English vocabulary acquisition of students at Unidad Educativa Primero de Abril in Latacunga in the province of Cotopaxi. To develop the study, the researcher used a descriptive and correlation-based methodology. Additionally, students needed to take the Duolingo knowledge pre-test and post-test to do a comparison between findings. The pre-test results showed that the majority of students had little knowledge about linguistic competences. For this reason, the researcher proposed the use of the Duolingo language-learning platform within the class planning in order to enhance the vocabulary level and help students to develop the English skills required to reach the goals of curriculum planning. The post-test results show that students reached intermediate levels of English after using the application. Therefore, the results are evidence of the effectiveness of using the Duolingo language-learning platform in linguistic competences acquisition, especially regarding vocabulary.
