MgIntroduction: Folk dance requires high levels of hip flexibility and strength due to its physical and biomechanical demands. However, the relationship between range of motion (ROM) and muscle strength in these dancers has been little studied compared to other disciplines such as ballet or contemporary dance. This study seeks to establish reference values in folk dancers, contributing to injury prevention and performance improvement. Objective: To determine normal values for range of motion and muscle strength in the hip of folk dancers, establishing biomechanical patterns specific to this discipline. Materials and methods: An observational, prospective, cross-sectional study was conducted in 100 folk dancers (50 men and 50 women). ROM was measured with a digital goniometer and muscle strength with a portable dynamometer. Statistical tests were applied to evaluate differences between limbs and gender. Results: ROM values similar to those of other dance disciplines were found, but with less hip extension. Extension strength was the highest, while abduction showed the lowest values. No direct correlation was found between ROM and muscle strength. Discussion: Significant differences were observed between men and women, with men showing greater strength and women greater ROM. Conclusions: The results indicate that folkloric dancers present specific biomechanical patterns, with asymmetries in ROM and variations in muscle strength. Low abduction strength could represent a risk factor for injury. These findings highlight the importance of training strategies focused on improving stability and preventing injuries in folkloric dance.Item type:Ítem, Relacion de la fuerza muscular de la rodilla con la resistencia aerobica del futbolista amateur(2025-10-02) ;Hernández Olivo, Allison Abigail, Lic.Suárez Peñafiel, Pedro Fernando, Lic MgIntroduction: Football is a team sport characterized by acyclic patterns that combine short, explosive movements. In this context, muscular strength plays a key role in sustaining prolonged periods of play, injury prevention, and athletic performance. Specifically, quadriceps strength is closely related to respiratory function, contributing to reduced mortality and ICU stay in clinical populations. From a physiological standpoint, increased strength is associated with mitochondrial adaptation, leading to greater ATP production, delayed fatigue, and a higher lactate threshold, which enhances performance during high-intensity efforts. Objectives: To establish normal values of knee muscle strength and to determine its relationship with aerobic endurance in amateur football players. Methods: This was a quantitative, non-experimental, observational, prospective, and cross-sectional study. A total of 84 amateur football players from different clubs in Tungurahua (Ecuador) participated. The sample was selected through non-probability convenience sampling, including players aged 20–40 years, with a height between 1.55 and 1.85 meters, normal BMI, Ecuadorian nationality, and mestizo ethnicity. Goalkeepers, players with recent injuries or relevant medical history were excluded. Knee muscle strength (flexion and extension) was measured using the Kinvent® dynamometer, following standardized protocols. Aerobic capacity was assessed using the Bruce protocol, and VO₂max was calculated using the corresponding formula. Results: Descriptive analysis indicated that demographic variables followed an approximately normal distribution. Knee strength values were lower than the ideal references (20.44 kgf in flexion and 23.54 kgf in extension),providing a basis for establishing population-specific reference ranges. Paired samples t-tests showed astatistically significant relationship (p = 0.001) between knee muscle strength andaerobic capacity. Conclusions: The study population presented knee strength levels below ideal values, highlighting the need to establish specific reference ranges for amateur footballers. A significant relationship between knee strength and aerobic endurance was confirmed. However, it is important to consider that the sensitivity of this relationship may be influenced by external, uncontrolled factors, which should be addressed in future research.Item type:Ítem, RELACIÓN ENTRE EL DOLOR EN PATOLOGÍA LUMBAR NO MECÁNICA CON LA FUERZA Y RANGO DE MOVIMIENTO DE LA CADERA EN EL PERSONAL MILITAR(2025-10-02) ;Villacis Gualpa, Aníbal Daniel ;Suarez Peñafiel, Pedro FernandoUniversidad Técnica de Ambato / Facultad de Ciencias de Salud / Centro de PosgradosNon-mechanical low back pain is one of the leading causes of medical consultation and disability worldwide. Its prevalence is particularly high in military personnel due to the demanding physical requirements of their activities. The etiology is multifactorial, with growing evidence linking lumbar pain to hip dysfunctions, especially alterations in muscle strength and range of motion (ROM). This study aimed to determine the relationship between non-mechanical lumbar pain, hip strength, and ROM in military personnel receiving care at the Physiotherapy Department of Basic Hospital 11 BCB Galápagos. A cross-sectional, correlational, and analytical design was applied. Two hundred military personnel were evaluated through the Numerical Rating Scale (NRS) for pain, manual dynamometry for hip muscle strength, and digital goniometry for ROM. Participants were selected by non-probability convenience sampling, excluding those with specific pathologies such as herniated discs or lumbosciatica. Ethical approval was obtained, and confidentiality was ensured through secure data handling. The study population had a mean age of 35.4 years, weight of 69.4 kg, and BMI of 24.95 kg/m², with 30.5% classified as obese. The mean pain score was 5.5, with moderate intensity predominating (58.5%). Hip strength and ROM were greater on the right side (p<0.001), indicating functional asymmetry. Pain showed a significant negative correlation with right hip flexion and extension strength (p<0.001). Multivariate analysis confirmed that increased pain is associated with reduced muscle strength, while no significant differences were observed in left ROM and adduction. In conclusion, non-mechanical low back pain in military personnel is significantly associated with hip strength, especially flexors and extensors, underscoring the need for individualized assessment and rehabilitation strategies.Item type:Ítem, NORMALIDADES DEL RANGO DE MOVIMIENTO Y FUERZA MUSCULAR DE RODILLA EN BAILARINES DE FOLCLOR(2025-10-02) ;Vásconez Calero, Rosa Cristina ;Bonilla Ayala, Josselyn GabrielaUniversidad Técnica de Ambato / Facultad de Ciencias de Salud / Centro de PosgradosIntroduction: Folk dance reflects the cultural identity and traditions of a people, combining specific movements and traditional music. Beyond its artistic value, it demands high physical dexterity, which highlights the range of motion (ROM) and knee muscle strength. Dancers, considered athletes, face a high incidence of injuries, especially in the lower extremities. Mobility and strength are key to preventing injuries. However, there are few studies on folk dancers and their profile related to ROM and lower extremity muscle strength. Objective: To establish the normal range of motion (ROM) and knee muscle strength in folk dancers from the Unidanza Corporation of the province of Tungurahua, Ecuador. Materials and methods: The research was developed under a descriptive, observational, cross-sectional cohort design with a quantitative approach, approved by the ethics committee and with informed consent. Range of motion and knee Licencia Creative Commons Atribución-No Comercial-Compartir Igual 4.0 Internacional723 muscle strength were evaluated in 100 dancers. Dancers over 15 years of age with at least one year of practice were included, excluding those with injuries or taking certain medications. A physiotherapy record was applied that recorded demographic data, knee flexion and extension, and flexor and extensor muscle strength. Results: The sample included 49% men and 515% women. There were no significant differences in age or BMI between sexes. However, men were heavier and taller, with significant differences (p < 0.05). Knee flexor and extensor muscle strength was greater in men, with statistical significance (p < 0.05). Discussion: The range of motion (ROM) in flexion was less than the reference value of 135° in both sexes (p = 0.000), while extension was complete (0°) in all participants. There were no significant differences in ROM between men and women. Conclusions: This study characterizes the muscle strength and range of motion of Tungurahua folklore dancers, showing greater strength in men and reduced flexion ROM. It highlights the need for balanced training to prevent injuries and suggests future biomechanical studies.Item type:Ítem, ENTRENAMIENTO NEUROMUSCULAR PARA LA PREVENCIÓN DE LESIONES EN EL DEPORTE: REVISIÓN SISTEMÁTICA(2025-10-02) ;Salinas Lascano, Erika Isabel ;Reales Chacón, Lisbeth JosefinaUniversidad Técnica de Ambato / Facultad de Ciencias de Salud / Centro de PosgradosIntroduction: Sports injuries have been progressively increasing, negatively affecting professional and amateur athletes. In this context, preventive programs have gained importance when applied to reduce the incidence and severity of injuries. Among them, neuromuscular training (NMT) stands out, as it has been shown to be beneficial by covering various aspects such as motor control, strength, and stability, which are predisposing factors in reducing the injury rate. The objective of this review is to evaluate the effectiveness of neuromuscular training in the prevention of sports injuries, analyzing its impact on different sports. Materials and methods: A systematic review was carried out following the PRISMA guidelines, using databases such as PubMed, Science Direct, Cochrane Library, and PEdro. The search was limited to articles published between 2020 and 2025. The methodological quality of the studies was evaluated using the PEDro scale, considering studies with scores ≥6 as good quality. Results: The main findings demonstrated that NMT significantly reduces the incidence of lower extremity injuries. Among the most notable results: In basketball, the "SHRed Injuries" program reduced ankle and knee injuries by 36% in both supervised and unsupervised groups. In youth soccer, a 32% decrease in acute non-contact injuries was observed. Discussion: Furthermore, NMT was shown to be beneficial in the rehabilitation of athletes with anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction, improving knee flexion anglesItem type:Ítem, RELACIÓN DE LA ROTACIÓN DEL HOMBRO Y LA ESTABILIDAD DEL CORE EN LA VELOCIDAD DEL NADADOR EN ESTILO CROL(2025-10-02) ;Romero Rivera, Vinicio Misael ;Flores Robalino, Rosita GabrielaUniversidad Técnica de Ambato / Facultad de Ciencias de Salud / Centro de PosgradosIntroduction: Swimming speed is a determining factor in competitive swimming, so the efficiency of shoulder rotation speed and core stability strength are key factors for performance in the water. Objective: To determine the relationship between shoulder rotation, core stability and its impact on the speed of swimmers in the front crawl stroke. Materials and methods: The research had a sample of 92 swimmers, their speed in the 200 m front crawl, shoulder rotation using the Upper Limb Test (ULRT) and the Core Stability Test to measure core endurance and strength were evaluated. Statistical and correlational analyses were used to determine the level of correlation between the variables. Results: Regarding the tests evaluated, men showed a better performance in two of the three tests compared to women. Shoulder rotation shows a moderate level of correlation with speed (VCramer 0.320 / sig. 0.001). Discussion: Core stability is only mildly correlated with velocity (VCramer 0.282 / sig. 0.005). Conclusions: Other factors to consider include biomechanical, abiotic, and physiological factorsItem type:Ítem, UTILIDAD DE LA APLICACIÓN PHYSIOMASTER EN HOMBRO Y CODO EN EL PERSONAL MILITAR DE LA ESCUELA DE FORMACIÓN DE SOLDADOS ESFORSE(2025-10-02) ;Robles Bustos, Karla Micaela ;Peñafiel Luna, Andrea CarolinaUniversidad Técnica de Ambato / Facultad de Ciencias de Salud / Centro de PosgradosThe Physiomaster is a free mobile application that uses motion sensors to assess joint range of motion (ROM) and analyze postures in real time. Its use is relevant in human biomechanics and physical therapy, facilitating the assessment and rehabilitation of injuries in joints such as the shoulder and elbow, especially in athletes and military personnel. This study seeks to compare the accuracy of the Physiomaster with the HALO digital goniometer, a standard in ROM measurement, to determine its usefulness in movement assessment in military personnel. The objective was to compare the HALO digital goniometer and the Physiomaster mobile application in measuring shoulder and elbow joint range of motion in military personnel. The research had a quantitative approach with an analytical, correlational, non-experimental, prospective, and cross-sectional design. The study was conducted with 200 military personnel from the Cenepa Vencedores Soldiers Training School in Tungurahua, Ecuador, using nonprobability convenience sampling. Men aged 18 to 23 years in their first and second academic years were included, excluding those with pre-existing shoulder and elbow pathologies. Measurements from the HALO digital goniometer and the Physiomaster mobile app were compared for assessing joint range of motion (ROM) in the shoulders and elbows. The results show that the HALO consistently measures higher values and presents less variability, while the Physiomaster has greater dispersion and lower accuracy, especially in lower ranges of motion. The Wilcoxon test confirmed significant differences between the two devices, indicating that they do not measure in the same way. Overall, the HALO offers more accurate and reliable measurements, while the Physiomaster may be less accurate in certain ranges. It was concluded that the HALO digital goniometer showed greater accuracy and consistency in measuring ROM, while the Physiomaster showed greater variability and lower reliability, especially at lower values. However, its accessibility makes it an option in resource-limited settings. The study highlights the importance of a pre-assessment assessment before its use in physical therapy.Item type:Ítem, RELACIÓN DEL DOLOR SACRO ILÍACO Y LA FUERZA MUSCULAR DE LA CADERA EN FUTBOLISTAS AMATEUR(2025-10-02) ;Ramírez Machado, Jimena Fernanda ;Suárez Peñafiel, PedroUniversidad Técnica de Ambato / Facultad de Ciencias de Salud / Centro de PosgradosSacroiliac joint pain is one of the leading causes of lumbar and pelvic discomfort, often underdiagnosed despite its high prevalence in young populations and in high-impact sports such as soccer. This study aimed to determine the relationship between sacroiliac joint pain and hip muscle strength in amateur soccer players. A quantitative, analytical, and correlational design was applied, including 150 players from the Cantonal League of Tisaleo, “A” category, during the 2024 Championship. Participants, men aged 18 to 40 years, had confirmed sacroiliac joint pain through at least three provocation tests, while individuals with lumbar pathologies, recent surgeries, or neurological conditions were excluded. Pain intensity was assessed using the Numerical Rating Scale (NRS), and hip muscle strength was measured with a handheld Kinvent® dynamometer. Results showed a mean age of 25.7 years and an average BMI of 23.5, with most players in the normal range. Pain intensity was moderate (mean=5.6), with the right side more frequently affected (55.3%). A negative correlation was found between pain intensity and hip muscle strength, particularly in right-sided flexion and external rotation. Additionally, a significant association was observed between BMI and pain, suggesting that excess body weight may exacerbate symptoms. In conclusion, sacroiliac joint pain in amateur soccer players is inversely related to hip muscle strength, highlighting the importance of targeted strengthening programs and preventive strategies to enhance functionality and sports performance. These findings emphasize the clinical relevance of incorporating hip strength evaluation and training into the therapeutic approach for athletes with sacroiliac dysfunction.Item type:Ítem, VALORES DE NORMALIDAD DEL UPPER QUARTERY BALANCE TEST , EN JUGADORES DE BÁSQUET(2025-10-02) ;Pacha Jara, Evelyn Johanna ;Cantuña Vallejo, Paul FernandoUniversidad Técnica de Ambato / Facultad de Ciencias de Salud / Centro de PosgradosBasketball demands high levels of coordination, balance, and upper body strength, which increases the incidence of injuries to the shoulder joint complex. In view of this, the Upper Quarter Y Balance Test (UQYBT) is a reference tool for assessing functional mobility and stability, as well as for identifying asymmetries that could predispose players to injury. However, in Ecuador, there were no specific normative values for basketball players, limiting its clinical and preventive application. The objective of this study was to determine the normal values of the UQYBT in players in the province of Tungurahua. A prospective, quantitative, observational, non-experimental, cross-sectional study was conducted on a sample of 117 recreational and amateur players of both sexes, aged between 14 and 26 years. The UQYBT was applied using the official kit, recording ranges in the medial, superolateral, and inferolateral directions, normalized in relation to arm length. The results showed significant differences in left medial reach according to gender and age, as well as variations associated with playing position. Point guards and shooting guards obtained intermediate values, while forwards and centers showed greater variability, confirming the usefulness of the test for assigning sports roles and designing personalized training programs. In conclusion, this study provides regional normative values for the UQYBT, establishing a benchmark for the prevention, rehabilitation, and optimization of athletic performance in basketball players.Item type:Ítem, UTILIDAD DE LAS PRUEBAS MODIFICADAS DEL CKCUEST EN LA VALORACIÓN DE ESTABILIDAD DE HOMBRO EN DEPORTISTAS DE BÁSQUET(2025-10-02) ;López Freire, Patricia Marilin ;Cantuña Vallejo, Paúl FernandoUniversidad Técnica de Ambato / Facultad de Ciencias de Salud / Centro de PosgradosIntroduction: Shoulder stability is a determining factor in sports performance and injury prevention. Several investigations have explored the effectiveness of functional tests such as the CKCUEST (Closed Kinetic Chain Upper Extremity Stability Test) and the postural balance test known as the Y Balance Test. The main objective of the study is to identify which variant of the CKCUEST best correlates with the results of the Y Balance Test. Materials and methods: For the methodology, one hundred basketball athletes participated, to whom the established tests were applied: the CKCUEST with its respective variants and the Y Balance Test, each test was performed in three sessions, with a frequency of three repetitions per session. Subsequently, data collection was carried out to perform statistical analyses. Results: The established results indicate that there is no linear relationship between the CKCUEST and the Y balance test. For the second objective, the approximate mean of the differences in the biacromial method is 5, while in the 50% height method it is 2.5. This indicates that the fifty percent height method provides measurements closer to the reference value. Discussion: The CKCUEST and the YBT for evaluating shoulder stability did not show a statistically significant correlation, which could be Licencia Creatve Com mons Atribución-No ComercialCompartr Igual 4.0 Internacional 572 due to the fact that each evaluates different aspects of physical performance. Conclusions: Furthermore, the standard CKCUEST correlates with the modified 50% half-height version and the biacromial version, suggesting that, to evaluate shoulder stability in Ecuadorian athletes, it is advisable to use the adjusted 50% height or biacromial version.
