| dc.description.abstract | This work develops an IoT monitoring system for hydrogen sulfide detection and air quality assessment in the production areas of the tannery PROMEPELL S.A., with the objective of protecting the occupational health of personnel exposed to toxic gases during leather transformation processes. The solution integrates TB420-ES4 sensors with 4-20 mA output for H₂S detection, BME280 and BME680 sensors for temperature, humidity and atmospheric pressure measurement, and a PCA9548A multiplexer for I2C bus management. Processing was performed by the CONTROLLINO MINI PLC with zone-differentiated thresholds based on Ecuadorian Executive Decree 2393 and ACGIH, OSHA and NIOSH international standards, with automatic siren activation upon sustained critical events. Data was transmitted via ESP32 to ThingsBoard using MQTT protocol, enabling real-time remote visualization and historical storage. Tests under real operating conditions recorded mean H₂S concentrations of 1.91 ppm (parts per million) in the liming zone, remaining within normative limits in 100% of records, and 7.67 ppm in the wastewater treatment zone, where a critical event of 92.3 ppm was registered, close to the IDLH limit of 100 ppm defined by NIOSH. Results validated the system's capability to detect critical events in real time, generate automatic alerts and constitute a viable solution for occupational risk prevention in industrial environments with toxic gas presence. | |
