Abstract

This study aimed to determine the correlation between grip strength and cardiovascular risk in women from the agricultural sector of the San Buenaventura parish. A quantitative, non-experimental, descriptive-correlational, cross-sectional study was conducted. The sample consisted of 90 female farmers whose grip strength was assessed using dynamometry and whose cardiovascular risk was evaluated using the Gaziano table. The results showed that the mean grip strength was 19.55 kg (SD 5.36). Regarding cardiovascular risk, 40% of the participants were classified as low, 28.9% as very low, 21.1% as moderate, 7.8% as high, and 2.2% as very high. Furthermore, significant associations were identified between cardiovascular risk and variables such as pregnancy history, autoimmune diseases, polycystic ovary syndrome, and level of physical activity. A moderate and statistically significant inverse relationship was found between grip strength and cardiovascular risk (Rho = -0.349; p = 0.001), indicating that lower grip strength is associated with higher cardiovascular risk. It is concluded that a significant relationship exists between both variables, highlighting the usefulness of grip strength as an accessible tool for assessing cardiovascular risk in vulnerable populations.
