Abstract

This project presents the design and implementation of a real-time satellite tracking system for ECU 911 emergency vehicles, using open-source hardware and software. The system consists of an Arduino Uno microcontroller, a NEO-6M GPS module, and a SIM808 GSM/GPRS module, powered by a 20,000 mAh portable power bank. GPS data is transmitted via GPRS to a LAMP-based server (Linux, Apache, MariaDB, PHP), where it is stored and visualized through a responsive web platform built with Leaflet.js. Field tests were conducted along two routes—Ambato to Baños and Ambato to Latacunga—collecting over 100 GPS points. The average geolocation error was 3.23 meters, consistent with the technical specifications of the NEO-6M module. The system achieved an autonomy of approximately 161 hours, validating its suitability for extended deployment without frequent recharging. The web platform provides key functionalities such as real-time tracking, historical route visualization, module and date filtering, driver data management, alert generation for speed and geofence violations, and downloadable reports in PDF and Excel formats. The solution demonstrates a cost-effective, scalable, and license-free alternative for public institutions requiring reliable vehicle monitoring capabilities.
