Abstract

Introduction: In the dynamic and demanding world of pole sport, lower limb strength and flexibility are critical to achieve high performance. The split, a key maneuver in this discipline, requires an exceptional combination of strength, endurance and range of motion. To perform this movement effectively and safely, specialized training that strengthens the muscles of the lower extremities is crucial, enhancing the athlete's ability to execute the split with greater precision and control. This program is designed to focus on improving strength, flexibility and stability of the lower limb muscles. By addressing these aspects in a comprehensive manner, it not only seeks to optimize the athlete's sporting performance, but also to prevent injuries derived from the intense and repetitive movements characteristic of pole sport. The implementation of this program can represent a valuable tool to improve skills and physical endurance in athletes who practice this discipline. Objective: To apply a strength training program in lower limbs in order to improve sport performance in the split in pole sport athletes. Methods: The research was approached from a quantitative, prospective, longitudinal, analytical and interventional design. Twenty-nine athletes from the Go Pole-Studio center in the city of Riobamba participated and pre- and post-intervention evaluations were carried out by means of 1RM (maximum repetition) tests, the sit and reach test and angular measurement of the split. The data collected will be statistically analyzed using SPSS software. Results: the strength training program had a significant increase in the performance of the pole sport athletes in the execution of the split, contributing both to the improvement of their technical ability and to the reduction of the risk of injury.
