During the pre-schematic stage, children acquire the ability to represent objects and situations through drawings and symbolic games. In addition, they show a growing interest in the exploration and manipulation of objects, which contributes to their sensory and perceptual development. In this light, the content of the current research is mainly centered on determine how the modeling technique contributes to the cognitive development of 4 to 5 year-old children. This project has a quantitative focus with a quasi-experimental design; and a descriptive – exploratory scope that finally leaded a reliable field research. In order to collect reliable data, an observation form was applied in two periods: pre-test and post-test. This form had a value scale based on the Initial Education Curriculum; and it embraced a total of ten dimension items. In addition, a population of twenty-three 4-5 year old kids from “Centro de Educación Inicial “Paraíso del Saber” was considered to perform this research in order to come out with an important outcome which stated that the initial hypothesis of the current research was successfully verified hence analyzing the significant difference between the starter and the after level of their cognitive development of the pre-schematic stage. To sum up, a great and noticeable improvement on the different basic skills for children from this age was found, such as hand-eye coordination, object manipulation, understanding space and time, and language development.es_ES
