Description
English in higher education is in charge of offering opportunities to expand knowledge
and skills. However, traditional memory methods or declining language strategies have
created a motivational void in students, disconnecting them from their learning and
contribution to society. Thesaurus, several investigations have shown that in the face
of this problem, gamification is presented as one of the methods to incorporate
attractive, didactic and structured activities that not only promise to increase motivation
but also significant learning results.
This study aims to investigate the specific effect of motivational games on the speaking
skill of students in the fourth semester of the PINE program. The purpose was based
on the incorporation of motivational games adapted to a subject of the program and to
verify their effectiveness in the development of speaking skill. Overall, students
showed significant progress (46.77%) across a total mean of all 30 students in relation
to the four criteria provided by PET exam. The challenge that was eminent provided
students with the need for communication and active interaction for conflict resolution.
