Abstract

Introduction: Migraine is a chronic neurological condition that affects approximately 15% of the world's population and is one of the leading causes of disability in young adults, especially women. Objective: To evaluate and synthesize the current evidence on the effectiveness and safety of complementary and alternative medicine therapies in the management of migraine, through a systematic review. Methodology: This research has a systematic review that involves evaluating the existing scientific evidence in databases, with an observational-cross-sectional design, based on a theoretical analysis, in which the study variables were not modified, along with a specific time. Results: Complementary and alternative medicine, including herbal medicine, acupuncture, therapeutic massage, and yoga, offer promising strategies for the comprehensive management of migraine. On the other hand, new therapies such as non-invasive neuromodulation, trigeminal nerve stimulation, transcranial magnetic stimulation, and vagus nerve stimulation, have shown benefits in reducing the frequency of attacks and in pain control, with a favorable safety profile. Conclusion: Complementary and alternative medicine therapies represent a promising option for the comprehensive management of migraine, especially as an adjunct to conventional pharmacotherapy. However, controlled clinical trials and standardized protocols remain a priority to validate their long-term efficacy and safety.
