Abstract
This research focused on characterizing the daily consumption curve and the hydraulic behavior of the drinking water network in the urban area of Pujilí canton, Cotopaxi province. The applied methodology integrated continuous hydrometric monitoring of 191 domestic water meters for 45 days, an intensive hourly analysis in a sample of 30 representative dwellings, and the spatial modeling of the infrastructure using Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The results determined that the water demand in the sector is non-linear, exhibiting a markedly bimodal regime. On a daily scale, the network supports its highest demand during weekdays, reaching maximum peaks of 1,060 m³/day. The hourly analysis verified extreme fluctuations in a 24-hour cycle, registering a critical morning stress of 81.56 liters (08:00 to 09:00 hours) and a secondary evening peak of 61.27 liters (19:00 to 20:00 hours). The pressure evaluation showed that the network maintains stable averages between 31.52 and 34.87 m.c.a. (meters of water column), complying with the NTE INEN 1680 standard. However, indoor monitoring revealed pressure drops down to 10.5 m.c.a. and static peaks of 59.7 m.c.a. Additionally, cartographic processing established an actual per capita demand of 192.17 L/inhab/day. This variable corroborated the territorial asymmetry of consumption, where socioeconomic Typology II requires up to 202.12 L/inhab/day compared to Typology IV with 174.41 L/inhab/day. It is concluded that the system is normatively viable but requires sectorization and calibration interventions to mitigate dynamic variations and ensure its operational efficiency
