Abstract
The train station in the parish of Ingahurco, formerly a historical, cultural, and
tourist hub of the city of Ambato, is currently in a state of complete neglect, resulting in
damage to the infrastructure and a lack of functional uses that meet the needs of the
community. This has led to severe problems of insecurity, vandalism, illegal occupation,
and, above all, a loss of heritage value. Internationally, various organizations have
identified similar cases, which negatively impact on the community and its identity.
Nationally, two significant examples are the Chimbacalle and Durán train stations, which
demonstrate the absence of policies to support their preservation. Specifically in the parish
of Ingahurco, the train station has become a clear case of heritage and urban risk related
to a lack of appropriate management.
Studying this problem is relevant because it presents an opportunity to rescue this
space, increase security, and simultaneously revitalize the city's tourist and cultural
identity. To develop this topic, a qualitative research approach using a case study
methodology is proposed, connecting with physical and heritage study.
The expected results include a general diagnosis of the building's current state, an
analysis of the urban and social environment, a distinction of uses within the station, and
a proposed architectural design that is functional and meets the community's needs.
Likewise, the aim is to create guidelines that ensure its conservation and reintegration as
a community space for the parish. In conclusion, this research aspires to enhance the
heritage and contribute to the urban planning of Ambato.
Description
La estación del tren en la parroquia de Ingahurco, anteriormente fue un nodo
histórico, cultural y turístico de la ciudad de Ambato, actualmente está en un estado total
de abandono, generando daños en la infraestructura y sin usos funcionales que responda a
las necesidades de la comunidad. Como consecuencia de esto ha generado severos
problemas de inseguridad, vandalismo, ocupación indebida y sobre todo la pérdida de
valor patrimonial. A nivel internacional, diferentes organizaciones proponen que existen
casos similares, lo cual afecta de manera negativa en la comunidad y en su identidad. En
un contexto nacional existen dos ejemplos significativos como son las estaciones de
Chimbacalle y Durán las cuales demuestran la ausencia de políticas para respaldar su
conservación. Concretamente en la parroquia de Ingahurco, la estación del tren se ha
transformado en un evidente caso de riesgo patrimonial y urbano relacionado con la falta
de gestión apropiada.
El estudio de esta problemática es relevante debido a que manifiesta una
posibilidad de rescatar este espacio, aumentar la seguridad y a la vez reavivar la identidad
turística y cultural de la ciudad. Para desarrollar el tema, se plantea una investigación con
un enfoque cualitativo bajo una metodología de estudio de caso, que conecte con un
estudio físico y patrimonial.
Como resultados se espera un diagnóstico general del estado actual de la
edificación, un análisis del entorno urbano y social, la distinción de usos dentro de la
estación y la propuesta de un anteproyecto arquitectónico que sea funcional ante las
necesidades de la comunidad. De igual manera se procura crear lineamientos que aseguren
su conservación y reintegración como un espacio comunitario para la parroquia. En
conclusión, esta investigación aspira a potenciar el patrimonio y contribuir a la
planificación urbana de Ambato.
